 MATT BOGART is an Actor, Singer, Writer and Producer. â As an Actor Matt's Broadway shows include starring as Willie O'Brien in Paradise Square opposite Joaquina Kalukango , Nick Massi (bass player of The Four Seasons) in Jersey Boys , Radames in Elton John and Tim Rice's Aida , as Chris in Miss Saigon (after originating the 2nd National Touring "Engineer" Company), in Frank Wildhorn's The Civil War (also originated at the Alley Theatre) and as Michael in Smokey Joe's Cafe, which was filmed for television, video and DVD. Other TV and film include reprising his role as Nick Massi in the feature live capture film of Jersey Boys starring Nick Jonas as Frankie Valli, as Robert Goulet in VINYL on HBO, produced and directed by Martin Scorcese and Mick Jagger, producing and starring in an indie feature Stargazer , Law & Order and L&O:SVU on NBC and feature film, Summer Nuts . Matt played Lancelot to Lou Diamond Phillips' King Arthur of the Round Table in the National Touring Company of Camelot . Off-Broadway , Matt revisited his role of James Joyce in Himself and Nora at the Minetta Lane Theatre in Greenwich Village. In Regional Theatres , Matt most recently appeared as Ben Rumson in a revised version of the Lerner and Loewe classic, Paint Your Wagon (new book by Jon Marans) at the St. Louis MUNY, as Val in Orpheus Descending, Lancelot in Camelot (Helen Hayes Award nomination) and Joe Hardy in Damn Yankees Arena Stage where he is an Affiliated Artist and serves as a member of Arena Stage's alumni steering committee. Matt originated the roles of David in Adam Gopnik and David Shire's The Most Beautiful Room In New York at Long Wharf Theatre, Pasha/Strelnikov (San Diego Critic's Circle Award) in Lucy Simon's Zhivago La Jolla Playhouse under the direction of Des McAnuff, Paul Claudel, opposite Linda Eder, in Frank Wildhorn's Camille Claudel at the Goodspeed Opera House, the title character of Ace in Ace (opposite his wife, Jessica Bogart) at the St. Louis Repertory Theatre and Cincinnati Playhouse, and the role of James Joyce in Himself and Nora at the Old Globe and in Dublin Ireland for the Bloomsday Festival, in association with the James Joyce Center. In the Kennedy Center's Sondheim Celebration, he portrayed Paul in Company and reprised his role for the 2002 Kennedy Center Honors in praise of Elizabeth Taylor. Other credits include originating the role of Matt in People Like Us Off-Broadway, for the the NY Musical Theatre Festival, Mat in Joe Masteroff and Ed Thomas' opera of Anna Christie at the York Theatre, Sydney Carton in Two Cities (Connecticut Critic's Circle Award nomination) at the Stamford Center, the title role in Phantom at Music Theatre Wichita, Alfred/Sam in Romance, Romance (opposite his wife, Jessica Bogart), Billy in Carousel and Lancelot in Camelot at Paper Mill Playhouse, Starbuck in 110 in the Shade and Terry in Side Show at Signature Theatre. TV/Film credits include reprising his role as Nick Massi in the feature live capture film of Jersey Boys starring Nick Jonas as Frankie Valli, a recurring role as Robert Goulet on HBO's VINYL (producers, Martin Scorsese and Mick Jagger), producing and starring in an indie feature Stargazer, Smash on NBC, Law & Order, L&O: SVU, Livin' On A Prairie (2018 Tribecca Film Festival and 5 additional FFest Laurels) TV Short, Summer Nuts feature film by Mickey Fisher ( Reverie, Extant, Mars executive producer/writer), Smokey Joe's Cafe' (Live Broadway Show recorded for TV/Film) , Kennedy Center Honors on PBS (honoring Elizabeth Taylor), The Tony Awards (5 occasions) and The Today Show (5 occasions). In Concert , Matt has sung and performed the Sondheim Celebration at Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall, with the American Composers Orchestra at Carnegie Hall, with Peter Nero and the Philadelphia Pops, Billy in Carousel with the Wichita Symphony Orchestra, Oklahoma City Philharmonic, Columbus Symphony Orchestra, Kentucky Symphony Orchestra and the National Symphony Orchestra in London to record his solo records at Abbey Road Studios. His first year of college, Mr. Bogart attended Baldwin-Wallace College Conservatory and played on the their football team. He then transferred to earn his BFA in Musical Theatre from the University of Cincinnati's College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) . He and his wife, Jessica Boevers-Bogart (also a CCM graduate) have been honored with the 2018 CCM Young Alumni Award for excellence in their fields. Matt's first solo theatre recording , âSimple Song,â was released on the Jay Records label, to be followed by an LP, "More Simple Songs" and an upcoming album release in 2018 of "Sky Above Manhattan," featuring the music and lyrics of Michael John LaChiusa, Ricky Ian Gordon & Richard Nelson & Michael Korie, Todd Almond & Gus Kaikkonen, Maury Loeb & Maria Irene Fornes, Mike Reid & Sarah Schlesinger and more. These and other Matt Bogart recordings are available on this website by clicking the Recordings link. As a Producer , Matt most recently developed and starred in a feature film adaptation of Kate Ginna and Rob Ackermans' play Stargazer , Co-Producer with John Yap on the Jay Records label, responsible for artist development of solo recordings, including the producing of his own recordings, Sky Above Manhattan, Simple Song and More Simple Songs. He is a Co-Producer for Jenn Gambatese' debut record, Cockeyed Optimist, a celebration of classic symphonic Rodgers & Hammerstein. As a Theatre Producer, Mr. Bogart vested in the Off-Broadway production of Himself and Nora at the Minetta Lane Theatre, in which he also starred as James Joyce. Matt's Writing includes a co-author for Scunge - A Mobbed Up Christmas Carol which premiered at the Birdland Theatre in NYC, co-authoring an original musical with Katy Pfaffl entitled, The Brightest Light , co-songwriter for a production of Orpheus Descending at Arena Stage, a musical adaptation of the film The Rookie , a TV pilot, 1/2 Hour , with Mickey Fisher ( Extant, Reverie and Mars , Creator and Executive Producer), Leonard Bernstein Review, 3 cabaret concerts, co-songwriter for The Bogart Brothers band including At The End of Foster Road (a folk concert with narrative) and presently and forever writing a great American novel. TV/Film, principal roles with symphonies and award recognition for regional theatre performances all across the US. Mr. Bogart has a BFA in Musical Theatre from the U. of Cincinnatiâs College-Conservatory of Music (also 2018 CCM Young Alumni Award Recipient), is an Affiliated Artist of Arena Stage in D.C. Matt grew up on a farm north of Dayton, Ohio and is the oldest of four brothers. Growing up, he enjoyed farm life, competitive sports and was introduced to the arts by his teacher and friends, Gail Brandewie and Betty Hemmert, during his college preparatory years. He went on to major in Musical Theatre at Baldwin-Wallace College Conservatory in Cleveland, Ohio while playing on their renowned Division III football team. The double-life dream faded but his focus on the arts did not as he transfered to attend the University of Cincinnatiâs College-Conservatory of Music (CCM), continuing his training in Musical Theatre, where he also met his wife, Jessica Boevers Bogart. They are among the company of a great list of alumni including Ashley Brown, Leslie Kritzer, Tony Yazbeck, Pamela Meyers, Lee Roy Reams, Faith Prince, Michelle Pawk, Jason Graae, Kevin McCollum (Theatre Producer), and Jim Walton, to name a few. While attending Conservatory (CCM), Matt performed in Carousel , Two Gentlemen of Verona, Working and West Side Story . In 1994, his senior class of nine CCM graduates showcased in New York City for agents, casting directors and other industry personnel. Since this showcase, Matt humbly admits his good fortune as a working actor and is grateful for all his friends and family who have made the journey with him. Matt resided on the Upper West Side in Manhattan for many years before moving to Westchester, NY with his wife, actress/director/teacher, Jessica Boevers Bogart and their two sons.
