Massive Thanksgiving Celebration Sets New Record for Food and Gratitude

Harborview, USA — On Thanksgiving Day, Harborview’s annual community feast set a new city record for both food donations and attendance, organizers said. The event attracted a riverfront crowd estimated in the tens of thousands and culminated in the collection and distribution of more than 60 tons of nonperishable food to area food banks and service agencies. City officials reported about 28,000 participants shared meals, a rise of roughly 5,000 from last year. The feast featured roasted turkey, mashed potatoes, pies, and hot beverages, prepared by a coalition of nonprofits, schools, and local restaurants. 'It's a day to give back,' said Maria Lopez, the event coordinator. 'The city comes together.' James Chen, a longtime volunteer, added, 'Seeing families and strangers share tables reminds us how connected we are.' In addition to meals, volunteers staffed a gratitude wall where attendees posted messages of thanks, and a donation drive that will continue through the weekend. Local charities expect to distribute the donated food to families in need over the coming week. Officials praised the planning and safety measures that kept the event orderly as crowds grew.
