Miranda Lawson is one of the most popular characters in Mass Effect, and romancing her is simple but requires the player to put the work in.
It's no secret that Miranda Lawson is a fan favorite when it comes to crew members in Mass Effect 2 . Now that Mass Effect: Legendary Edition is available, players are experiencing interactions with the character all over again. Romancing Miranda is one of the most popular options in the game for those choosing to play as the male version of Commander Shepard.
Miranda Lawson is a no-nonsense kind of person first introduced at the start of Mass Effect 2 . She plays a major role in the story as a Cerberus officer who specializes in biotics. Her extended role in Mass Effect: Legendary Edition is dependant on a few choices that the player makes in Mass Effect 2, including parts of her romance.

Miranda is one of the first two members of Shepard's team alongside Jacob after the opening. To increase her loyalty rank, make sure to talk to her after every major mission is complete. Shepard has a handful of dialogue options with Miranda, but make sure to exhaust all of the "Let's chat" options before moving on.
After completing the mission on Horizon, Miranda will give Shepard a call and ask them to come talk. Go directly there and agree to help her twin sister, Oriana. This will trigger the mission Miranda: The Prodigal which the player should do as soon as they can. There are no crucial choices to make during the mission, so just complete it and Miranda will pledge her loyalty. Talk to her in her office following the mission and continue going to see her and be nice to her after each mission ends.
Jack is one of the other romanceable options aboard the Normandy in Mass Effect 2 . She and Miranda eventually get into a heated argument following the completion of both of their loyalty missions that Shepard gets involved in. Keeping both of their loyalties requires high paragon or renegade levels, so if the player doesn't have a high enough level, they may temporarily lose a character's loyalty. To continue romancing Miranda, it's important to either side with her in the fight or to use the player's paragon or renegade status to calm things down.
After the fight, continue seeing Miranda frequently after each mission. Before the start of the final mission of the game, Miranda and Shepard will share an intimate moment in the engine room. If she survives the final suicide mission, she's also available to be romanced in Mass Effect 3 , however, her role in the story is greatly reduced as she doesn't join Shepard on the Normandy.

Miranda Lawson is part of the reason Shepard survives getting spaced in Mass Effect 2. He can begin a romance with her following her Loyalty mission.
Though she can be a bit chilly upon first meeting her, Miranda Lawson becomes a close ally and friend to Shepard as the story progresses in Mass Effect 2 . Miranda is a genetically modified biotic warrior and Cerberus Officer. She was also in charge of the Lazarus Project, reviving Shepard after the events of the Mass Effect 2 Prologue. She is an optional romantic partner for a male Shepard in Mass Effect 2 , provided her Loyalty is secured and maintained.
Unlike most other Mass Effect 2 romanceable characters , Shepard will not need to recruit Miranda first, as she is with him from the start of the main campaign. In this particular romance arc, Shepard can choose to be honest about his feelings or to engage in banter to increase the romantic tension. Shepard will need to be sure not to take sides against Miranda or lose her Loyalty, or they will be locked out of pursuing her as a partner. If Miranda is loyal and survives the events of Mass Effect 2 , she and Shepard can continue their romance to the end of Mass Effect 3 . Here's how to begin a romance with Miranda in Mass Effect 2 .
Almost immediately following the mission on Horizon, Shepard will receive word from Yeoman Kelly Chambers that Miranda and Jacob wanted to speak to him. He can find Miranda in her office behind the kitchens on the Crew Deck. She will ask for help protecting her twin sister Oriana from abduction by her father. Shepard will need to agree to help, then travel to Illium at some point to complete the Mass Effect 2 side mission Miranda: The Prodigal .
Miranda's Loyalty mission cannot be failed. Regardless of choices made during the mission, Oriana will be safe, and Miranda will pledge her Loyalty. Shepard will want to talk to her immediately following the mission for closure. There are no romantic dialogue options during this conversation.
Shepard can return to Miranda's office later and ask to speak with her again by selecting Can we talk . During this conversation, players should select the Paragon dialogue options until Miranda expresses that the only thing she can take credit for are her mistakes. Here, either the Paragon or Renegade dialogue option can lead to a romance. If Shepard chooses You're hard to compliment , he will encourage Miranda to give herself more credit and express that he admires her body and her mind. When she responds that she wouldn't mind him admiring her body, players can choose I'm admiring it now to have Shepard express his interest in her romantically. If Shepard instead chooses You're jealous , the two will competitively banter, and Shepard will have the option to kiss her.
Regardless of the path taken, Miranda will express that she needs time to think. After a few more missions, Shepard should go talk to her again. He will need to choose the Paragon or neutral dialogue options to reassure her that he has feelings for her and continue the romance. Otherwise, he can break it off during this conversation. Speaking to Miranda any more times after this conversation will consistently give Shepard the option to confirm his interest in her or break it off.
After Shepard completes Jack's Loyalty mission, the two women will fight in the Comm room. Shepard will either need to take Miranda's side, losing Jack's Loyalty, or resolve the argument without taking sides by using the Charm/Intimidate dialogue option, provided they have a high enough Paragon or Renegade morality score . If he takes Jack's side, he will lose Miranda's Loyalty, and the relationship will end permanently, even if he is able to regain her Loyalty in a subsequent conversation.
The next time Shepard talks with Mordin Solus , the professor will suggest he check for Cerberus listening devices before becoming intimate with Miranda. While not required, a similar scene with Mordin takes place for any Mass Effect 2 romance and can be a humorous reminder that others on the ship recognize the budding romance between Shepard and one of his companions.
Should Shepard follow all these steps, ahead of the Suicide Mission, Miranda will meet Shepard at the Combat Information Center and flirtatiously invite him to join her in the Engine room. If he agrees, the cutscene will shift to the Engine room where Shepard and Miranda spend an intimate night together.
It is important to keep Miranda alive during the Suicide Mission . Typically, she is a solid choice for the Fire Team Leader in both segments of the mission. Though she expresses interest in acting as the Biotic Specialist, she should not be given this role, or she or another squadmate will die. Shepard will also need to choose appropriate leaders for the other teams to prevent Miranda from being accidentally killed during other stages of the mission. During the final boss fight, it is best to leave Miranda behind on the defense team, as she makes a good contribution to the team's overall defense score and can help keep others alive.
Should Miranda survive the events of Mass Effect 2 and the player continues the game following the credits, they can talk to her again in her office to celebrate their victory against the Collectors. Later, Shepard can call Miranda up to his cabin, and the two can sit together, sleep together, or cuddle. Shepard can stand by and encourage Miranda as she grows into herself away from the influence of her father and The Illusive Man when the romance is continued to the end of Mass Effect 3 .

Miranda Lawson is only available for Male Shepards, who can begin courting her after her Loyalty Mission, Miranda: The Prodigal. Once you complete it, you can begin courting her, which happens in three conversation stages. Each conversation stage is reached by initiating the one before it and then completing any Mission or Assignment.
For the first stage, talk to Miranda and then pick "It's nice to see you smile", which will give a small moment of intimacy between Shepard and Miranda.
In the second stage, pick "Can we talk?" to begin the conversation, followed by "And you" when it appears. From here you can pick any of the options, although if you want Shepard to be very forward you can pick "You're jealous" followed by "[Kiss her]". In any case, Miranda will state that she needs some time to think about it.
If you've also been courting Tali or Jack, this stage will first have you decide who you want to be with. If you want to be with Miranda, you need to pick "I want you alone", otherwise you can pick "This isn't going to happen" to break up with her or "I haven't decided" if you're still thinking about it. You MUST decide here or else neither Romance will progress any further.
As always, you'll want to pick "Can we talk?" to begin the romantic talks again. Picking the upper-right or middle-right options will Lock in the Romance with Miranda, while the bottom-right options will break it off with her permanently. As noted above, there's no middle ground available at this point in the relationship, you must decide now.
Once you complete both Jack and Miranda's Loyalty Mission, they'll get into a big fight in Miranda's office, and it's your job as the Commander to calm them down. If you don't want to jeopardize a Romance with Miranda, you'll need to avoid upsetting her here.
In order to do that, you should pick any option other than "Back off, Miranda": this will permanently halt the Romance, even if you talk with her after to restore her Loyalty. Picking "Too bad, Jack" will avoid this, however this will render Jack Disloyal and you'll have to use a Persuasion option with her after to make her Loyal again.
The best option is to pick one of the Persuasion options, either "This is a distraction" (Charm) or "This ends now!" (Intimidate). This will cause both of them to stand down without jeopardizing their Loyalty or a Romance with Miranda, however you'll need to have a very high Paragon or Renegade meter in order to choose one of these.
Once you've Locked things In with Miranda, then when you initiate the Suicide Mission via the Omega-4 Relay, she'll visit Shepard in the Captain's Cabin for the romantic encounter.
As Miranda is a member of Normandy's crew, you must also make sure he survives the Suicide Mission at the end of Mass Effect 2. To do that, first make sure that you have as many Squad Mates Loyal to you as possible before grabbing the Reaper IFF, and upgrade the Normandy's Shields, Armour and Cannon at the Research Terminal.
During the Suicide Mission itself, a Loyal Miranda is a good pick for the Leader of both Second Fireteams in the first and second parts of the Collector Base infiltration, but is a poor choice for the Vent Specialist in the first part. As well, Miranda is surprisingly a poor choice as the Biotic Specialist for "The Long Walk" through the Seeker Swarms.
If you do not have a Loyal Jack or Loyal Samara / Morinth, avoid picking Miranda as a Squad Mate for "The Long Walk", as she'll be put at risk in that case. If Miranda isn't Loyal but you still want to keep her around, avoid picking her for any defined role or as a Squad Mate: that will get either herself or somebody else killed.
As you'll learn early into the game, a Romance with Miranda is a bit complicated because she's simultaneously on the run from Cerberus and investigating the disappearance of her sister Oriana. You'll meet with her three times throughout the game, and each meeting will turn out to be vital in ensuring she'll live after her investigation is complete.
The first time you can meet her is after Priority: Palaven, where she asks to meet you in Normandy Dock: Bay D24. Eventually she'll ask if she's still a part of Shepard's plans for the future. Pick "Nothing's changed" to continue the Romance with her.
The next stage will be after Priority: Citadel II. When you return to the Normandy's War Room, Anderson will forward you Kai Leng's dossier. If you didn't complete Miranda's Loyalty Mission in Mass Effect 2, it's CRUCIAL that you read this at your Private Terminal, because you'll also get a message from Miranda asking to meet at the Citadel again.
