Marvel’s next Disney Plus Show will be Wonder Man.

Representatives from Avengers West Coast will perform their own stunts for director Shang-Chi.

The next Marvel superhero to hit Disney Plus Begin for live-action is Wonder Man, a character that dates back to the early days of the Avengers, gaining fame in the 1980s as a founding member of the Los Angeles division of the hero group.

The Hollywood Reporter reported Thursday that Destin Daniel Cretton, director of 2021’s Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings, has joined the project as lead writer, along with Andrew Guest (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Community). THR suggested that filming could begin next year.

Disney Plus Begin Code just premiered Ms. Marvel on June 8, a month after the critically acclaimed six-episode series Moon Knight.

Wonder Man, real name Simon Williams, first appeared in Avengers #9, August 1964. The character was originally an industrialist rival of Tony Stark and was recruited by Baron Zemo into an early “Masters of Evil” group of supervillains. Zemo gave Williams “ionic energy” abilities, including superhuman strength, stamina, impenetrability, and jetpack-assisted flight. He became a hero after briefly joining Zemo’s group.

Wonder Man’s identity is public knowledge; Williams is fabulously wealthy and he makes his living by working as a Hollywood stuntman. Both character traits seem like the TV show would explore those areas.

From the mid-1960s to the late 1970s, the character was largely inactive; Marvel Comics publisher Stan Lee indicated that DC Comics had threatened to sue the Wonder Woman copyright mix-up. But Wonder Man was reborn and joined the Avengers, later forming the West Coast Avengers with Hawkeye in 1984.
