Marvel Rivals Releases Major Patch Notes: New Characters, Balance Changes, and More

April 30, 2025 — The highly anticipated team-based superhero shooter Marvel Rivals has just dropped its biggest update yet, bringing a slew of new content, character adjustments, and gameplay tweaks. Developer NetEase Games has listened to player feedback and introduced changes that could shake up the meta in exciting ways.

New Playable Heroes: Silver Surfer and Black Cat Join the Fight

The patch introduces two fan-favorite Marvel characters as playable heroes:

Silver Surfer – A high-mobility cosmic hero with energy-based attacks and the ability to traverse maps quickly using his board. His Ultimate, 'Power Cosmic,' unleashes a devastating wave of energy that damages and displaces enemies.

Black Cat – A stealthy melee fighter with agility-based moves, including wall-running and a luck-based passive that occasionally grants critical hits. Her Ultimate, 'Thief’s Gambit,' lets her steal an opponent’s ability temporarily.

Major Balance Changes

Several heroes have received adjustments to ensure fairer matchups:

Hulk – Slightly reduced armor during 'Worldbreaker' mode to prevent him from being unstoppable in close quarters.

Spider-Man – Web-swinging cooldown decreased, making him more fluid in movement but reducing the stun duration of his web shots.

Storm – Weather effects now have a clearer visual indicator for enemies, giving more counterplay options.

Iron Man – Repulsor blast damage increased, but his flight mode now consumes energy faster.

New Map: Savage Land

A brand-new jungle-themed battleground has been added, featuring vertical terrain, hidden pathways, and dynamic hazards like falling meteors (courtesy of a certain cosmic villain’s interference).

Quality-of-Life Improvements

Improved Matchmaking – Reduced queue times for high-rank players.

Cosmetic Loadouts – Players can now save multiple skin and emote presets for quick swapping.

Replay System Beta – A new feature allows players to review matches from different camera angles.

Bug Fixes

Fixed an issue where Doctor Strange’s portals could sometimes trap players indefinitely.

Resolved a bug that allowed Magneto to pull enemies through solid walls.

Addressed crashes occurring during certain Ultimate ability combos.

The Marvel Rivals community has responded enthusiastically to the patch, with many praising the new additions and balance adjustments. NetEase has also teased a future 'X-Men vs. Avengers' themed event, hinting at even more heroes and villains on the way.
