"The Last Days of August," a new Audible podcast with investigative journalist Jon Ronson, explores what really might have happened to 23-year-old porn star August Ames. The Canadian starlet died by suicide in December 2017 after she tweeted about not wanting to perform with male porn stars who also do gay porn, also known as "crossover" performers. Some claimed she was homophobic.
Her husband, Kevin Moore, proclaimed it was internet bullies who pushed Ames to her untimely death. He posted "The Truth" about Ames's death on her Twitter page six days after her death, specifically blaming cyberbullying—and people like Jessica Drake and Jaxton Wheeler—for Ames's death. And, yes, Ames was bullied the day she took her life, but there was more to it. And that's what "The Final Days of August is about." Ronson uncovers other disturbing elements that likely contributed to her suicide, taking listeners on a journey in a "Serial"-like manner, uncovering details that were widely unknown to the general public through various twists and turns.
But according to Ronson, "it's impossible to know" why Ames, whose birth name was Mercedes Grabowski, took her life. "There were many factors that led to her suicide some were terrible and some were much were human and small," he told Newsweek. "So I think it would be wrong to say that any single factor led to her suicide. Would she be alive today? That's an impossible question to answer because she was so upset what happened in Las Vegas and how that triggered and something else may have."
What happened in Las Vegas, six weeks before she died, is one of the things that Ronson explores in his gripping podcast. Ames did a scene with Russian porn star Markus Dupree, and his domineering style might have triggered her. Ames texted a friend, saying Dupree went "full on War Machine" on her. She was talking about Jon "War Machine" Koppenhaver, a professional fighter who brutally attacked his ex-girlfriend porn star Christy Mack and was sentenced to life in prison.

This is just one of the lesser-known stories that Ronson unearths, along with the abuse Ames said she endured as a child. He goes back and forth, trying to uncover every facet of Ames's story.
Ronson's careful not to paint Ames's husband as the bad guy, though some people close to Ames described him as overbearing—a bully in his own right—especially as far as Ames's brother was concerned.
Moore cooperated with Ronson while he made the podcast. They talked regularly. Ronson disclosed everything he was going to talk about in the podcast to Moore but he wasn't interested in listening to how it turned out. "He told us that he didn't want to hear it. I've been in touch with him pretty consistently he knows exactly what's coming," Ronson explained. "We've been upfront with him there's nothing he won't already know… [If he did listen] I don't think it would surprise I think we've told him everything in it."
While exploring Ames's death, and what might have led to her suicide, Ronson tried to remain as fair as he could, especially when it came to Moore. "I always want to be an ethical person and writer. This was more complicated than normal," he explained. "A grieving husband is still a grieving husband. As a storyteller, nobody else had that responsibility to get that right."

Porn star Ryan Madison has been accused of sexual abuse by at least 10 co-stars who allege he used his wife Kelly to lure women in.
Madison, a porn veteran, runs Kelly Madison Productions, with his wife. On Tuesday it was claimed he is a 'serial abuser' who 'groomed' a number of women.
The adult movie star, 43, is said to have used an all female team 'to make him seem more trustworthy' before subjecting them to non consensual scenes.
Describing her scene with Madison as a 'horror movie' Kinsley Karter says she was just 21 when she says she was abused by Madison. She told The Daily Beast : 'There’s usually some type of communication before, but there was absolutely none at all.'

She describes the California home where they shoot scenes to be 'in the middle of nowhere', adding: 'The main reason I’m speaking out now is because I didn’t have any warning, and I want to warn other girls about him.'
One agent said: 'The girls can feel very isolated out there, way the hell out in the middle of nowhere, and he got increasingly rougher and increasingly intoxicated.'
Annabel Redd was one of the first woman to publicly accuse Madison, tweeting on June 5: 'do not watch my porn fidelity scene. that man violated my boundaries.'

Madison's videos have more than 46 million views and he has won numerous industry awards.
One accuser, Lexi Lore, said she was just 19-years-old when she was abused by Madison. She said: 'Ryan Madison is so well-known as a rapist in the industry.'
Another, Jane Wilde, who was also 19 when she says she was assaulted, added: 'They had all women on set, so I felt empowered. It really made me put my guard down. Then I left the house of women. And that’s when it started to get very predatory.'
'It’s a strange dynamic when a guy is trying to hurt women and is using his wife to make him seem more trustworthy', she added.
Amber Addis said: 'It’s almost like you’re being groomed to get your guard down, because as soon as her husband arrives, she just disappears.'
Ryan and Kelly have not commented on the allegations. DailyMail.com has contacted the couple for comment.

A fourth porn actor has reported testing positive for HIV, increasing concern that there is an outbreak among adult entertainment performers.
Two performers - Cameron Bay and Rod Daily - have come forward and announced that they tested positive, but the third individual who was infected has remained anonymous.
A moratorium is ongoing on shooting in the adult film industry following the news of a fourth performer testing positive for the disease.

Michael Weinstein, president of the AIDS Healthcare Foundation told the LA Times , that a fourth porn star had contacted the organization.
Mr Weinstein said: 'We were approached by a male performer who told us he had tested positive' but declined to give further details.
The adult film industry is considering increasing the frequency with which its stars take HIV tests from 28 to 14 days however a decision is yet to be made.
Radar Online reported that 'a dozen female performers have been quarantined as a result of exposure'.
After Cameron Bay came out as being infected, a brief moratorium was issued that stopped all productions of pornographic films, but that was lifted just days later.
When Rod Daily announced via Twitter that he had tested positive for HIV less than two weeks after Bay made her announcement, he advocated for further precautions to be taken.
'Drumroll please!! I'm 32 years old and I'm HIV positive. Acute HIV, which means I recently was infected. For that I am blessed,' Daily wrote on Twitter last Tuesday.
'I'm blessed for the fact that I caught it so early that I can blast that s*** with meds.
'With the tests I have done the doctors have figured out that I was infected within the last month...My antibodies just showed up on a test this week which is scary because they didn't a week ago,' he said in two other tweets.
