Earlier this week, Bon Appétit posted a video called “This is How You Should be Eating Pho.” The video starred Tyler Akin , who owns Stock, a Southeast Asian restaurant in Philly. Akin is white, and he makes Vietnamese food. In the video, he says that you should leave hoisin and sriracha out of the soup’s broth, explaining that you should taste it first. The Internet did not take kindly to being told what they “should” be doing with their Pho.
Really @bonappetit really? You have a white chef tell Vietnamese people how to eat their #Pho ? SMH #fail https://t.co/ChvarCLGUg

I wonder if hipster pho restaurants spend 14 hrs on their broth like my mom does
I wonder if their broth is rich with history like hers is

That face white people make when they send back a bowl of pho cause it doesn’t have enough pumpkin spice. pic.twitter.com/HXZBCpn96m

The video also suggested that pho is “the new ramen,” which some people saw as being disrespectful to both Japanese and Vietnamese cultures by lumping them together, when in reality they’re two entirely different noodle soups. One Facebook user wrote “cultural foods shouldn’t be a hype just because your white palette discovered it.”
Bon Appétit issues an apology on their Facebook page, and they’ve since changed the video’s title to “We’re in Love With This Pho.”
In their apology, they noted that they “never want to be a space that allows for harassing comments and threats toward chefs and restaurant owners. Ever.” Eater reported that the restaurant’s Yelp rating went down by a full star following the incident.
Cultural appropriation in food has been a conversation topic for a while now. Earlier this year, Dan Pashman did a series for his podcast called “Other People’s Food” where he tackled the subject. In one of the episodes, he i nterviewed Rick Bayless , one of the best Mexican food chefs in the country. Bayless is white, and he says that the question of whether it’s okay for him to make Mexican food comes up for him from time to time, and how much room there is to play with the cuisine is a big issue for him. Overall, he tries to stay as true to tradition as he can.

The minimal set of clothes that perfectly combine with each other – seems too good to be true! But apparently the capsule wardrobe, as such consisting of basic colors and their combinations, is a real thing and a concept that has grown in popularity over the last few years. Investing in such a wardrobe will surely be a success, because the main idea is to have a few but fashionable and high-quality things you can create many outfits with. Hopefully some of these tips will make you «wardrobe full of clothes and nothing to wear» syndrome less severe

We all know that fashion comes in cycles and constantly repeats itself. The proof for this is the winter collection of 2019 in which you can find references to a Victorian era, as well as some trends from the 80's fashion. Oversize coats, eccentric jeans and knitted clothes can be all found in the latest runways looks. Caps, leather raincoats and wild prints continue to stay in trend too.
In general, the most outstanding features of the winter collections that can be distinguished are the cowboy style, futurism, underwear style, animal prints, floral patterns, fake fur, fringe, large beads and patchwork, as well as shiny neon and metallic fabrics.

After the Isabel Marant pour H&M kids sneakers sold out online almost right away while I was at work, I had little interest in hunting them down in stores. I really hate crowds due to what I call "competitive shopping". It's a serious illness, I tell you! Especially in NYC. That same evening I was in the area of the H&M on 5th Avenue Midtown West and decided to pop in because WHATEVER, right? I'm here. Let's do it.
There was a chilled out, gated off section of the store for Isabel Marant where there were mostly odd leftovers like oversized coats, jewelry, scarves and things that didn't make the initial cut with the crowds. Over in the kids section, amongst the faux Converse selection, there was one pair of slip ons left...in my size (the largest size available for the kids shoes, women's 6.5). Lucky day! I grabbed them and left. They are just so cool. I love the tie dye quilted combo. For those still shopping, it's also worth mentioning that a lot of the kids sized wears can fit most petite adults - for way cheaper.
