"Man of Records" Yeo Oh-hyun starts anew as a coach
20 seasons since 2005...Retired after the end of last season
Starting next season, he will start his career as a coach at IBK Industrial Bank of Korea
"I want to hear the story of a leader who breathes together and communicates together."
Yeo Oh-hyun, coach of IBK Industrial Bank of Korea, who announced a new start as a leader, was determined.
Coach Yeo Oh-hyun energized the players with a girlish voice as he did when he was active at the 2024 Korea Volleyball Federation KOVO women's tryout site held at NAS Sports Complex in Dubai, United Arab Emirates on the 8th.
"We only had weight training together, but the coach counted loudly and told us to cheer up. I think we need to scream more than we did before to boost the players' energy," Yeo said.
Yeo is a rookie coach who has joined IBK Industrial Bank of Korea less than 15 days ago. She started work in earnest during the Asian quarter draft on April 29, and trained with her team players only for about three days to participate in tryouts of foreign players.
Coach Yeo said, "I watched a lot of videos of women's players. It was different from what I thought, so I thought I should study a lot."
The "Man of Records" female coach played for 20 seasons from the original year of the V-League in 2005 to the 2023-2024 season. She played in 625 games, the most ever, and ranked first in receptions 8005 and first in successful digs 5,219. She also played in 22 games last season, showing off her lackluster performance.
Having successfully achieved her 45-year-old project to retire at the age of 45, Yeo said, "I am more proud that I participated in the competition without a single season, rather than titles such as 45 or 600 games. I want to compliment myself."
IBK Industrial Bank coach Kim Ho-cheol suggested Yeo Oh-hyun, who is at the crossroads of retirement. "The coach was so good that she managed herself until she was in her 40s. She will be a good leader," Kim said. "Players will learn a lot from defense and reception. I brought her here with high expectations."
Coach Yeo said, "I felt grateful, but honestly, I was more afraid. I thought, 'Will I be able to do well?' and I think I will cause trouble to the coach. I am grateful that the coach gave me strength to say, 'I can do well.'"
Yeo had the second-highest number of wins nine times after Yoo Kwang-woo 11 times, but failed to wear the ring that she aimed for her 10th victory. "It hurts my heart. Honestly, if you don't have greed, it's a lie. I wanted to fill it up enough as a player, but I'm sorry to retire with only one piece of puzzle left," Yeo said.
Yeo Kwang-woo Songsan High School, the son of the coach, continues the family business as a libero professional defender, the same position as his father. If the coach continued her career and Yeo Kwang-woo started the draft after graduating from high school, the father and son could be seen running together. "I decided to try a new challenge," the coach told her son.
Having successfully played for Hyundai Capital through the Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance league, she could not say goodbye to her fans in Cheonan. However, she plans to meet with her fans next season. Hyundai Capital plans to hold a retirement ceremony for her early next season.
"I'm not leaving far away, but I'm in the volleyball world, so I'll have the opportunity to officially greet my fans," Coach Yeo said. "Thank you for your support and applause. I hope you'll support me a lot so that I can grow as a leader." 바다이야기
Now standing on the court as a leader, Yeo has thrown her hat into the ring. "It's my first time in the women's team, but volleyball is played by a player in the same way anyway," Yeo said. "When I was a player, I wanted to become a player with energy and enthusiasm. I will help our players do the same."
