This morning our Chief Commissioner Steph Anastasi was invited to a special assembly at Sacred Heart Primary School where she shared with all present the wonderful values Guiding embraces, whilst also explaining who we are and what we do. This was all in preparation for next Monday's Scarf Day, when we will be celebrating World Thinking Day. The girls at Sacred Heart were lucky enough to get to wear the scarf to school today as well! Heartfelt thanks goes to Ms Marisa Vella …Demanuele, for giving us this lovely opportunity to share with all the reasons why we hold Guiding values so dear. We surely look forward to further collaboration and opportunities !

An event which every Unit looks forward to is without doubt the Crossing Over Ceremony, during which Units celebrate their members, especially those who have finished a chapter of their Guiding Journey and moved on onto the next. Although COVID-19 has changed and interrupted many plans, it did not stop 7th Rabat Girl Guides ' online Crossing Over Ceremony where , apart from the actual crossing over, a different 2020 Guiding year was celebrated ! The Unit also announced the start of their 60th Year anniversary, a huge milestone in the history of the Unit .... so do stay tuned for more !
The World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS), together with WOSM, have been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. The nomination comes from Norwegian Liberty Party MP, Solveig Schytz who states that “.....At a time when our world is threatened by so many international challenges, be climate, wars or the pandemics, we need a counterweight to egoism and nationalism. We need to offer young people a chance to rally around a set of common values and the belief in service, not only to one’s own community, but to international society.” This is what Girl Guiding is all about !

A strong statement by Kamala Harris, who makes history today by being sworn in as the first woman to take the vice presidential oath of office. Our Association, as a girl's only association, holds such statement close to heart ,and will always continue striving hard in making sure that all girls are empowered in always fighting and standing up for what is right, no matter what.
Central and North Deputy District Commissioners Chantelle Galea and Elizabeth Mizzi attended the Academy 2020 International Virtual Training Event , a Guide and Scout event held annually with the main aim of providing training and networking to volunteers at national level roles from the European Regions of WAGGGS and WOSM. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this edition of The Academy was held virtually and connected over 170 Scouts & Guides across Europe! The Academy offered …various training sessions, all based on 3 core principles: Growth, Impact and Influence and Diverse members and Inclusive opportunities. Participants also had the opportunity of attending ‘Hack Your Box’ sessions, networking sessions and also the must-have International Night ! Even though this year’s Academy was online, it was still a great opportunity for all participants to broaden their knowledge and skills, meet new people, and connect with brothers and sisters in Guiding and Scouting.

Various MGG Units participated in sessions related to Basic First Aid and Respiratory Health organized by the MMSA - Malta Medical Students' Association. It was indeed a very interesting way to kick off the new Guiding year and as MGG we surely look forward to further collaboration.

As MGG Adult volunteers, the well being of our members is always a priority. Yet we cannot surely ensure their well being if we do not take care of our own well being first ! In view of this, in collaboration with Willingness Team , a safe space for psychological support during this pandemic was offered to our Adult Volunteers, where they had the opportunity to open up and share their experiences. A well deserved thanks goes to Nicola Falzon for creating such a space.

Members from 32nd Zejtun Girl Guides had the opportunity to meet Hon Carmelo Abela and to discuss with him a number of issues. Amongst the things they discussed was a project they are currently working on, as part of their Community Service Badge. Following this discussion our members had the opportunity to ask a number of questions to Minister Abela with the main intention of getting to know him better and to get to know more about his work as a Minister. A lovely opportunity indeed :)
