Beautiful movie! Loved the appealing colorful visuals and the fantasy of it all. Not sure why some reviewers are so negative. I mean, it's a movie - it's not supposed to be real! Love Angelina Jolie of course and I did wish to see more of her in it, perhaps kicking more ass, but that would compromise her deep integrity and authenticity as classy Maleficent. Gotta say that there’s no one else like Angelina Jolie and she adds a magical touch like Aurora’s finger to the spindle in every movie she’s in. Also felt a sense of female empowerment throughout the film, not in a feminist way, but displaying the mental and physical fortitude of the dominant women played by Jolie, Pfeiffer, and Fanning - great combo and performance. Men were still respected like the good King John. Enjoyed and appreciated racially diverse faces throughout the movie like Jolie's real children; not many movies embrace global peoples. Costume and make-up was gorgeous. Witty, romantic, comedic, light, dark, love, pain, war, peace, and more... all the dynamic elements of a story is there. And Bebe Rexha’s song “You Can’t Stop the Girl” added a perfect thematic touch of strength and confidence during the end credits!

This is the perfect example of what is wrong with Hollywood today. They manage to hire the most talented actors, experienced crews capable of creating the best set designs and find the best locations available. They hire incredible CGI artists who create fantastic creatures and effects that look practically indistinguishable from real life, and hire the best composers and musicians to write and perform spectacular soundtracks, yet they can't seem to hire competent, intelligent talented writers. It's mind-blowing to me that the powers that be over at Disney, Lucas films, HBO, and AMC to name but a few, who have some of the most cherished and beloved movie and tv franchises in the world each with huge fan bases to satisfy, and when it comes to the scripts they give no thought to it whatsoever and blindly and uncaringly accept any garbage from unqualified writers. How can they not be aware of the constant backlash online from feed up fans all over the world who are complaining daily of horrible writing as the only cause of their unhappiness with the movie or tv show in question . That is why GOT, Walking Dead, Star Wars, DC and Marvel have lost a considerable amount of their fans. It's solely due to abysmal writing. Why can't Hollywood find writers that are even 10% as talented as the fans themselves. Go online and read some blogs from fans of the above mentioned franchises and you will find genius theories, ideas and stories that are far superior to the garbage that the official writers create. This movie had everything else going for it as mentioned above except it was written by people who couldn't write a decent script. If you told me that the script was written by preschoolers I would believe it. According to this movie if you had friends and family that you have known, loved and cared about your whole life and they were ruthlessly slaughtered and killed by foreign enemies you would not only cheerfully embrace and forgive your enemies minutes after the slaughter but you would attend a joyous wedding directly afterward instead of mourning your loved ones and attending a mass funeral. Yes that is exactly what happens in this ridiculously stupid movie. How anyone involved with this picture could read the script and think that it is even remotely ok is beyond me. There were more plot holes and inconsistencies in this movie than vowels in this post. Like when dozens of fairy protagonists of the movie are trapped in a church and only have a single enemy who is killing them by the dozens by playing the church organ which spits out deadly powder and they sit there and let it happen. They even have the large tree creatures with them but they don't think to attack or even apprehend their attacker. The 3 good fairies apparently forget they have magical abilities at their disposal and only flit about like moths to try and distract the enemy. It's just so ridiculous and don't get me started with the evil queen played by Michelle Pfeiffer and how the heroes let her attack them over and over without permanently stopping her so she of course continues her evil ways. I swear I thought I was watching Neegan from the Walking Dead all over again. The movie gets 5 stars for every department except the writing which gets 1 star and that is being overly generous on my part. I think that the person or persons over at Disney who's job it was to choose an appropriate script for this Maleficent sequel needs to be held accountable for incompetence and fired from not just Disney, but from the entire movie industry so that they can never repeat their gross negligence. If I were a major shareholder of Disney I would demand it. The fact that the person or persons responsible for red lighting this convoluted and half-baked script, thought it was great and the one to hang their multi millions of dollars on proves my point. When will Disney and the rest of Hollywood learn and wake up.

Pure storytelling wonder in 'Maleficent: Mistress of Evil', the spellbinding sequel which is better than the first movie. Jaw-dropping cgi/visual effects bring the story to life in this nonstop fantasy action movie which is thrilling from start to finish. The story continues to develop in the ongoing epic struggle between the creatures in the moor, defended by Maleficent, vs the Queen of the castle. Fun movie!

You'll be thrilled to see that:

+ The main story between Angelina Jolie's Maleficent vs Michelle Pfieffer's Queen is brilliantly brought to life by both leads, who deliver outstanding performances. In this tale, Maleficent is put in unfamiliar territory by having to deal both with the Queen's treachery and Aurora's upcoming wedding.

+ Bit of a misnomer in movie title (mistress of evil), in that it's the queen who is evil, not Maleficent. Title should've been "Maleficent: Mistress of Magic". I agree with others re writing/script is not great (like most modern movies) but the visuals are superb.

+ Breathtaking cinematography with creatures great and small; worldclass visual effects helped bring the movie to life. Colorful, fascinating in a Wizard-of-Oz type of moviemaking magic way... bravo! to the vfx/dp team.

+ the Aurora & Prince characters are secondary, and ok. The main story is the struggle between Maleficent vs the Queen.

+ Angelina Jolie is 10/10 in her fantastic performance; we see her inner motivations & desire to protect Aurora. She delivers a true Hollywood magic unforgettable performance, and totally commands the screen. Both beautiful & terrifying, Angelina "brings it" to life with style.

+ Lots of nonstop action in this one, complete with epic fantasy battles, breathtaking aerials during castle fights; still family-friendly while providing a rush of excitement.

+ Only minor negative is I did not like the gnome-in-lab character (lickspittle); unneccessary & slowed pacing.

Loved this rollercoaster movie, never a dull moment -- spellbinding & highly recommended! Angelina creates some 'wow' moments both artistically & visually; she's great to watch.

p.s. Like Will Smith as the genie in the terrific Aladdin remake, Angelina Jolie delivers a powerful movie-magic performance that is not to be missed in 'Maleficent: Mistress of Evil'. Longtime fan, thanks Angelina for bringing the movie to life with your brilliant, thoughtful talent. A+

although visually a stunning movie, wow is the story simple, obvious and at times inconsistent. Angelina Jolie is stunning as Maleficent. Aurora (Elle Fanning) is a ridiculous character who flip flops to move the poorly written script along (she has complete faith in Maleficent-she is easily duped and Maleficent is, well malefic, then she has complete faith in her again. Hmmm. Queen Ingrith (Michelle Pfieffer) is a plastic character and is clearly shown to be the real evil one with a sham back story explaining why she hates nonhumans. When the plot is obvious and the deception is non-existent because they reveal everything immediately it is more frustrating than enjoyable to watch. I love Warwick Davis but his character is one dimensional and frustratingly so. Outstanding visually and great fantasy characters but should have had a better story.

The first Maleficent movie is one of Disney's finer live action movies. Its rewatchability for me was a strong incentive to watch the second (not enough of course to spend 14 dollars on a movie ticket.)The costumes, sets, graphics, and acting were defiantly beautifully and meticulously done. I honestly love once again the layer of this onion they have added to the character Maleficent. Angelina must have practiced at a small age for this role! With just a look she tells so much and did such a great job in her reprise of the role. Michelle Pfeiffer was good at the Queen (reminiscent of Cersi Lannister ((R.I.P.))) and honest brought the GOT feels for real. Dickinson and Fanning did a fantastic job (and they actually did a really good job at acting despite...) playing mostly dunder headed young adults that just needed to smush their bodies together despite a gigantic massacre of dark faye, light faye, and humans alike happening on their wedding day. Horny teens is the only possible solution to ignore the death you have just witnessed! I guess all the faye didn't technically have bodies to bury cause they just turned into fluff and stuff but seriously? Would they want to sit through anything after seeing their loved ones disintegrate in front of them?? And im a little fuzzy on the human side of things because some of them woke up at the end? Now I know the ones that were tossed have to be kaput at LEAST but somehow I doubt all of them want to sit through another royals garbage dream at that particular time (..."Did that man just turn into a...BEAR?? I'm getting OUT of here!") The need to throw this scene of a wedding completely took away from the entire movie and the whole point it (actually) built up to. Bury the dead, get a strong drink, sleep it off.

Now in Disney's defense I fully understand this is also intended for children but if you can talk about death and the loss of life """"Pixar why can't a movie where WAR is going on??? enough rant on...I don't want to say baaad writing, just really lacking. Do better on making sense

Now the COSTUMES- honey they don't fail. The queens gowns were STUNNING and any award goes to that dinner ballgown (YES ANY OF THEM SHE IS THE QUEEN GIVE IT UP)
I liked how in the first movie the costumes of Maleficent flowed with her mood/scene and visually always helped look the part. The second movie I love that she went to Oscar De La Renta and shopped! From the second Maleficent heard about the wedding she was in MOURNNNIIING BIIIH all black, dripping in skulls! That bone collar is 100

Graphics were fantastic, part of me wants them to go back and CG the trees into taking the creepy lackey of the queens and growing flowers out of her you know where (okay /endrant for real but YOU know what I mean) but I will take the awesome realistic moss guts that came out of their face instead. :)

TL;DR good movie, just stop watching right after Maleficent turns into the Phoenix you're welcome

it amazes me that this movie has 4.5 stars on Amazon Prime Video, about the same as the first movie.

The first film was a tale of love, betrayal, forgiveness, & redemption, told through the emotion-rich interactions of Maleficent, Aurora, Prince Philip, & King Stefan. This sequel is about...what exactly? None of the characters go through any sort of sensible evolution. Maleficent in particular goes away from the action for most the film, then pulls such a sharp turn of character at the end it left tire marks on my screen. Aurora plays no significant role except as a damsel in distress; this time around she doesn't even send serve as the trigger for Maleficent's transformation. And don't get me started about Prince Philip--the new actor has none of the old's charisma, & always seems to be delivering lines through a stomachache.

The focus this time around seems to be action instead of story. Lots of fight scenes, then...resolution? No one's mad that a whole lot of magical creatures & humans got killed, everyone just laid down their weapons, held hands, & sang kumbaya?

The film-makers would've done well to base this sequel on another fairy tale, but w/ an inverted perspective. It's why people like the first movie, & w/ Disney films, straying from the formula rarely ends well. This sorry product is a case in point.

It has amazing effects and actors and cinematography but the storyline was weak and the whole plot was flawed. (****Spoiler alert****)The characters and storyline weren’t realistic and somehow despite intense hatred on both sides and killing each other 5 seconds earlier At the end the evil queen gets defeated and suddenly everyone realizes their prejudice and they are like best friends and hugging it out after they just killed each theta friends/family in the battles... yeah if they wanted that to be the ending they needed to alter the story to have everyone be under a curse or not get to the point of killing each other literally so many people and enchanted creatures died, and yet two seconds later they’re like “yay let’s have a wedding and forgive each other! Hugs!!” If you don’t care about good storylines and purely want to be entertained or have your feelings of being misunderstood reinforced because the world is unfair and
