Hi all

Can anyone convert the follwing MALE sizes into FEMALE sizes, please? I've looked around on the net but not had much luck.

WAIST/LEG: 42

CHEST: XL

SHOE SIZE: 10

Many thanks.
Are you that bloke out of Corrie who Audrey is seeing?
Dress size 20-22 maybe 18 at a push depending on sytle/cut etc...

Shoes size 10 as they are the same

I think shoe size for women is two sizes down for men? So 10 for a man would be 8 for a woman?
Not where I shop Feet are measured equally with the same units.
IIRC dress sizes equate to 1 size per 2".

Yeah, that sounds about right.

I would round down to a size 20. but not all 20's are equal thus the mentioning of 18

Shoe conversion chart: http://www.dance4less.com/shoe_conversion_chart.htm only half size out in most cases.

I wish p*ss takers would just sod off!
Mmmmm, i wear a size 16/18 trouser but when i had to buy some mens trousers to fit i found that the 40" fitted perfectly. The cut of mens and womens is different though as they allow for women to have hips where as men they dont.

Maybe a little more info - are you male needing womens clothes? or women needing male clothes?
There are websites which specialise in ladies clothes which are in mens sizes. A quick Google will help you.

Hi

Male needing women's clothes, thank you. It's about 44'' leg for me so is that 22 for women, would you say?
Sounds about right but even for a women needing womens clothes - it can vary from shop to shop, style to style!! Its a minefield!

Can you look at the back of a clothing catalogue (i.e. Next) as they often have diagrams with measurements. Or even order something online as most places have free returns if it doesnt fit?
Hmm... I'm 5' 9'' and 18 stone if that's any help?

I'm trying to find coats on eBay but they seem to stop at Size 18!
Then size 22 is prob a good starting point. It will also depend on 'where' your weight is - all around? tummy?

Once you start looking a womens clothes you will realise that anything nice will stop the size below yours, Fashion Labels will come up much smaller than they advertise too so stay clear. Personally i LOVE Karen Millen dresses but they stop at a size 16 and its a very small 16.

What item of clothing are you looking for?
The weight is bum, legs and tum, I'm afraid!

I'm looking for long-sleeved shirts/tops (casual) and coats/jackets (not rainjackets), ideally as cheap as poss.
Same here!!

Have you tried some of the high street stores? Tesco clothes can be good and quite generous? Asda are good quality but seems to be very tight on their sizes if the clothes i brought yesterday are anything to go by! (or maybe i have just eaten too much cheesecake lately :D).

My only advice would be to try different sizes on as stores/styles can vary. I can understand if you dont feel comftable going into shops and doing it but many mail order places will deliever and have free returns.
Thanks. But who does mail order, do you have anywhere in mind at all?

This is something I've been wondering about for some time.

What determines scents of the same name, such as The One, to be Pour Femme and Pour Homme?

Both male and female versions of The One smell nothing alike. Yet they still bear the same name.

I've noticed that new fragrances tend to be catered to women at first. Classique came out first, then came Le Male. Rive Gauche came out for women first, then came out the men's version (and they also smell nothing alike).

I know a lot of it is marketing.

But how do perfumers determine what male notes are equivalent to female notes?

Another example is Spicebomb. Flowerbomb came out first, and then the perfumers determines that spice is the equivalent to florals in terms of sexy. How is this so?

As you say - it's just marketing - if a name obtains recognition, it pays to use it for the other sex as well. I don't think brands make a conscious effort to maintain similar styles/notes/structure. They just commission a masculine perfume, usually to a different perfumer, in whichever style is deemed to sell the most. Hence you could have a fruity floral syrup for the women, and a woody thing for me, or whatever.

Incidentally, the opposite practice also happened. That is, a perfume created for a sex, which, smelling good, is repurposed nearly as is for the opposite sex, but completely changing the name lest god fearing men realize they're wearing a perfume first created for women. Estee Lauder was pretty good at this, hence Aramis/Azuree, Aromatics Elixir/Aramis 900, and so on.

Most designer fragrances with both female and male versions/flankers of a fragrance named, in theory, the same way (aside from a gender-based addition) smell very little similar to me (e.g. YSL Rive Gauche, YSL Opium, Lanvin Arpege and countless more along these lines)
