When Malang was released there was a hue and cry that the movie shows Goa in a bad light which could affect Goan tourism but will it? Either due to competition in education, the growing expectations of the parents, the parents themselves being addicted to drugs or the harsh discipline inflicted on children. The growing absence of parents and the pressure of taking care of the family have led the Goan youth to embrace the dark path. The lockdown during this pandemic has left many unemployed leading many youngsters to find the ultimate peace in drugs. The factors being varied the truth remains the same that Goa is a safe haven. Formulating strict rules and censoring the film scripts to save the image of Goa would not make any difference. What will perhaps make a difference is an awareness that life has many other things to offer and drugs are not the only option? It is a dire need to work towards reducing the demand for drugs and to guide families to not to victimise the addict. Although it is hard to accept that a loved one has fallen into the trap. But the love offered by a family during these hard times can be a saviour. Overall, the political and the community will and commitment will prove a winner in this battle against drugs.
