Corbin Carroll (23, Arizona Diamondbacks) recorded the fourth Major League Baseball record in his first full-time season.
Carroll started as the first batter and right fielder in the 2023 MLB Cincinnati Reds at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona on the 28th (Korea Standard Time) and led his team Arizona to a 5-2 victory with two hits and two runs in three at-bats.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, when it was a 2-2 tie, Carroll stole second base by trying to steal a base during the at-bat of the follow-up batter Ketel Marte. It was Corbyn's 40th steal of the season. Corbyn, who already had 22 home runs, achieved 20 home runs and 40 steals.
It is the fourth time in history in both the American League (AL) and the National League (NL) after Tommy Aggie in 1996, Michelle Page in 1977, and Mike Trout (LA Angels) in 2012. He was also named as an Arizona player who achieved the record in 16 seasons since Eric Burns in 2007.
Corbyn, who was nominated in the first round of the 2019 rookie draft, has grown into a top-notch prospect, ranking first in each media prospect rankings early last year. Corbyn, who made his big league debut against the Philadelphia Phillies on August 29 last year and batted .2604 in 32 games, played full-time this season and played in 126 games, batting .281 22 home runs, 64 RBIs, and 40 steals, playing the main batter of Arizona.
Arizona has 69 wins and 62 losses as of the 28th, keeping its third place in the NL wild card. The game is 12 games away from the Los Angeles Dodgers, the world's No. 1 player. He has to aim to advance to the postseason as a wild card. It has continued its upward trend with 11 wins in the last 14 games. Carol is at the center of it. He is also currently the number one candidate for the NL Rookie of the Year award.
