Making TON the Most Affordable, scalable Layer 1 Network.

Making TON the Most Affordable, scalable Layer 1 Network.

TON Foundation

The TON Core team wants to share with the validator community new plans to improve our ecosystem’s affordability and growth. The team is looking to introduce an initiative to cut transaction fees, making TON transactions more affordable to encourage activity and growth within the ecosystem.

Fees in the TON blockchain are fixed and do not depend on network load. However, as you know, the Toncoin exchange rate has gone up, so fees in dollars have gone up accordingly.

1. Special Jetton discount: On April 16, the targeted fee reduction for Jetton-with-governance transactions will be released. Currently, such transaction costs 0.032 TON (~$0.22 based on $7 per TON). After the reduction, the fee for the first transaction will be reduced to 0.02 TON (~$0.14), and subsequent transactions will cost 0.0145 TON (~$0.10). The activation of this feature will be decided by on-chain vote on April 18.

2. Global fee reduction: A proposal for a threefold decrease in transaction fees will be presented. For jetton-with-governance, the first transaction cost will be reduced to ~ $0.06, and subsequent transactions to ~ $0.04. The activation of this feature will be decided by an on-chain vote starting on April 18.

These fees are calculated based on the price of $7 per 1 TON and will fluctuate with Toncoin’s price.

Impact of these changes

The reduction in transaction fees will impact your validator rewards. However, making user interactions smoother and cheaper is essential to support TON's continuous growth. The latest increases in blockchain activity have benefited all parts of the ecosystem, from tokenomics to development and awareness. We must adapt to accommodate our new users and heightened activity to keep this momentum going.

It's worth noting that network fees do not make up the majority of validator income. The biggest part of the validator's income is the minting of new Toncoins every block that become more and more valuable upon wider TON adoption and corresponding (expected) price rise.

TON needs you, validators

We encourage all validators to vote in support of these fee reductions, as they hold the potential to not only enhance the user experience but also prepare our ecosystem for further growth. Reduced fees will encourage more transactions, drive adoption, and ultimately help position TON as the major Web3 player it was designed to be. This is an exciting opportunity for TON's future, and your vote can make a significant difference.

The validator community has the power to drive substantial positive transformations, making our ecosystem more accessible and attractive to users. Validators are the cornerstone of The Open Network; we must work together to help TON reach its fullest potential. We believe fee reductions are the way forward to continue TON’s trajectory.
