Sewing is trendy, sewing is cool, and sewing is something teens want to do. They can, with this guide geared just to their tastes and needs. It provides the basic techniques and terminology to get them started, plus more than 20 patternless projects that range from “no-sew” simple to more advanced skills such as ruching. These super-stylish garments and accessories—all on target for their age-group and fresh off the pages of the latest magazines—will really have young fashionistas buzzing. Projects include a cute scarf skirt with a handkerchief hem, an adorable halter top and baby-doll tunic, a patchwork slouch bag, and a long scarf with two-toned sides. SEW TEEN will have young style-setters at their machines SEW quickly!
Grade 7-10–Zent presents 21 projects and accessory designs that will appeal to budding seamstresses and novice stitchers alike, although teens should know the basics of using a sewing machine or have assistance. The book opens with sections on tools, sewing vocabulary, taking measurements, fabric styles, sewing techniques, maneuvering corners, and an icon key. Each project includes a section on calculations and measurement, a shopping list, cutting instructions, and tips on sewing with many types of fabrics. The step-by-step instructions include drawn renderings to assist with the construction and full-color photographs of teen models wearing each garment or accessory. For sewing material for the younger crowd, try Judy Ann Sadler 's Sewing (Kids Can, 1997). –G. Alyssa Parkinson, Highland Township Library, MI

Considering the popularity of TV's Project Runway, the time may be ripe for a sewing book like this spiffy entry by Zent, whose ExpresSew products, aimed at teens, can be found in many fabric shops. Her 21 projects, all of which require a sewing machine, aren't dumbed down: they often incorporate haute couture techniques, such as ruching, and, as in real-world fashion design, sewers base patterns on their personal measurements and are discouraged from taking shortcuts ("Isn't that pretty when you go to a little extra trouble?"). Professionally styled photos of hip models wearing each finished item will motivate young fashionistas, although the lack of a stay-flat spiral binding will be frustrating, as will the small size of both the text and the diagrams. A detailed introduction addresses beginners, but it's patient, meticulous teens with some know-how--or the assistance of an experienced adult--who will get the best results. A must in high schools that retain sewing courses in the curriculum. Jennifer Mattson

I did learn some from this book like how to; sew a button hole, lock my stitch, and turn my fabric on the needle. However, the drawn example were hard to understand. And a lot of the steps didn't have an example at all. And I don't like how there is no patterns in the book. you have to measure and make them your self. This can be very difficult for a beginner machine sewer like myself.

The items were low cost and my daughter actually wears them! "The girls" already have plans to get together over the Christmas break to work on more of these great ideas. The Steubenville Youth Conferences, an outreach of Franciscan University of Steubenville, are a series of 24 conferences across North America that help teens encounter the love of Christ every summer. Each summer, Life Teen hosts several Steubenville Youth Conferences with the hopes of strengthening and inspiring teens and youth groups in their collective journeys to Christ.
We are offered a future full of hope. That future, however, will not simply arrive at our doorstep. We must co-labor with Christ as he speaks hope into this world. A future of hope starts with the youth of today. They are tomorrow’s prophets and apostles, developers and doctors, teachers and preachers, athletes and artists, mystics and martyrs. How they are shaped today will be how they shape tomorrow.
There are many women who are a vital part of salvation history and their stories are critical parts of Sacred Scripture. This scriptural devotion will inspire young women to raise their heads along with Mary, Martha, Lydia, and Esther and look into the eyes of Jesus, the God who loves deeply and perfectly.
You are going to make thousands of decisions today and one of them might change your life. Are you confident that what you want and what God want are the same thing? Don’t leave it up to chance - leave it in the hands of the Holy Spirit.

Life Teen strengthens our teens' Catholic identity, while rooting them firmly in Christ and in His Church.
A Message From Life Teen President Randy Raus
As the movement of Life Teen, we are outraged, saddened, and grief-stricken by the horrific deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and too many others, and by the division and violence across our country. We believe that racism is a life issue. It is a disregard for human life and an ongoing danger that must be met directly. As members of the Church, we are called to stand up against injustice so that we might not embrace indifference. As Catholics, we cannot turn our eyes away from these atrocities and still profess to respect human life. We serve a God of love, mercy, and justice. With that comes the responsibility to love, to show mercy, and to seek justice.
We stand committed to continuing this conversation with young people as we believe real change can happen, and that God is still working miracles today. We have previously developed a resource called “At the Table” to help you and your teens discuss this important topic, and we are offering it for free on our website at this time — https://lifeteen.com/cym/resource/at-the-table
We pray for an end to racism, and an end to the violence in the wake of this tragedy. We pray for comfort for grieving families and friends. We pray for peace across the United States. We pray that through these trying days, real change will happen.
Finally, we beg God to heal our deeply flawed views of each other. As Jesus said, “By this, everyone will know that you are my disciples if you have love for one another” (John 13:35). Let us love one another.

Life Teen is a movement within the Roman Catholic Church, Life Teen leads teenagers and their families into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ and His Church.
We've all been there. Everything seems to happen at the worst times and all at once. Though we cannot always prevent the poorly timed questions and spilled dinners, we can prepare for Life Nights so that the food on the ground doesn't seem as stressful.
Did you know that the month of May is dedicated to Our Lady? It’s true! The Church gives special honor to the Blessed Virgin Mary during the month of May. And of course, there are many Marian feasts throughout the year, but how often do we actually pause to reflect upon these Catholic traditions of ours? Do we actually celebrate Our Lady in a way that honors and upholds her dignity as the Mother of God and Queen of Heaven? Here are several ways you can celebrate Our Lady’s patronage of the Church on any Marian feast of the year.
Youth Rooms have become an integral part of any parish campus. Not only do they function as a designated area to hold weekly Life Nights and Edge Nights, but they also serve as a common meeting area, especially for those teens who seem to stop by daily.
