Macron urges Iran to stop attacks on Middle East countries

French President Emmanuel Macron held a telephone conversation with Iranian President Masoud Peseshkian.
During the conversation, he called on Tehran to stop attacks on the countries of the Middle East.
The French leader also stated the need to restore freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
“I stressed the need for Iran to immediately stop attacks on countries in the region. Iran must also guarantee freedom of navigation by putting an end to the de facto closure of the Strait of Hormuz,” he said.
Macron also expressed concern about Iran’s nuclear program and Tehran’s activities in the region. At the same time, he stressed the importance of a diplomatic settlement of the situation.
In addition, the French president stated the priority of returning French citizens Cecile Kohler and Jacques Paris, who are imprisoned in Iran, to their homeland.
According to Macron, the parties agreed to keep in touch.
Earlier, in a conversation with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, the Iranian president denied Tehran’s involvement in the drone attack on Nakhichevan.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi also said that Beijing considers the war in Iran pointless and calls for a cessation of hostilities.
