How much is the price of prostitution around the world? Apparently, as low as $0.60 or as high as $1,600 (or even higher) per session.
The global sex industry makes US$186 billion per year . Even in countries where prostitution is illegal, the industry continues to flourish. In the Philippines, prostitution is illegal, but the Philippine sex industry makes $6 billion a year — placing it 9th on the list of the top spenders on prostitution. (Ahead of it is China [$73 billion], Spain [$26.5 billion], Japan [$24 billion], and the United States [US$14.6 billion].)
Havocscope compiled a list of prices of prostitution around the world, and the results are intriguing, and oftentimes, disheartening.
In Bangladesh , human traffickers buy young girls for US$250 from poor families and force them to work in prostitution. Their customers pay US$0.60 for each visit. Most prostitutes have 15 customers a day.
Prostitutes in China can range from US$100 (in Beijing) to US$1,600 (in Shanghai) .
In Colombia , a mother sold her 12 daughters' virginity to men for US$200 . The girls were 12 years old when they were forced into prostitution.
In Cannes, France , prostitutes can cost up to US$40,000 a night.
In India , it can cost US$1,000 to have sex with a virgin. But sex with an adult can cost as low as US$1 .
Soliciting a prostitute online in Indonesia can cost US$70 .
In Japan , a 14-year-old girl reported that men were paying US$100 to have sex with her in hotels.
In Malaysia , sex with an adult prostitute costs around US$50 . But should customers want someone underage, they'd have to pay double.
In the Philippines , it costs US$35 to have sex with prostitutes around Subic Bay.
Some men in Singapore were arrested for having sex for a minor. They paid US$47-55 . But an online prostitution syndicate was charging customers US$111-119 (S$140-150) for 90-minute sessions.

The Economist conducted a study a few years ago on the price of prostitution around the globe, analysing data from 190,000 female sex workers in 12 countries — mostly in America and other rich countries. They found that the price of an hour of sex has been steadily dropping. In 2006, this cost US$340. In 2014 this figure was down to around US$260.
The researchers cited three possible causes for the decline:
But prostitutes aren't actually earning less. Now that many of them conduct their business online, they don't have to give a pimp or a brothel a cut for giving them business. And as it's easier to sell sex, competition drives prices downward. As in any other business.

Room tip: There is a lot of work going on outside (scaffolding outside your window). Ask for a room facing the Grand Lisboa and you should avoid this.

The Lisboa hotel is the oldest hotel/casino in Macau, but the furnishings and service are top notch. Excellent in room steam showers, complimentary mini bars, luxurious linens, and friendly service from the Concierge down to the chamber maids all reflect very positively, as does the excellent location just minutes from Senado square and a pleasant 25 min walk to the Fortaleza do Monte and Macau Museum. That said, the overwhelming number of prositutes that operate in the hotel, apparently with the hotel managment's knowledge and support, is a huge turn-off for me and would keep me from recommending the property to anyone. The prostitutes line up 24 hours a day and walk a route on the ground floor admist the shops and restuarants much like models on a runway 20 or 30 are always on the circuit. They appear to maintain their own rooms in the hotel as 8 were checking in when I was and the hotel staff is 100% aware, if not complicit. It is unfortnate that a property of this caliber has this ugly side. More
We spent an unforgettable weekend in Macau as part of our long honeymoon. It was hard to decide where to stay because of ‘reputation’ of hotels but after intense research online, fingers-crossed we booked Lisboa. The hotel stands out with its whimsical architecture while Interior is a grand glittery maze. We were lost twice in those two days. Upon arrival we couldn’t locate the reception. It was funny cruising around with luggage in tow. The signs are in English but misleading. Finally a porter came to our rescue. Second time was next day evening when we forgot our room number. Not normal but it happened because we stayed in different hotels in different countries for weeks during then. Anyway, a short trip to reception, few knowing smiles and we back in our room. This time a glass tray of assorted chocolates was waiting for us on the bed. It was such a happy little surprise we cherish. So nice on their part. Thank you Lisboa :) Our room – Deluxe Lake view – was exactly like the photos on their website. No difference at all. Very spacious by Macau standard. Bold colorful theme to keep in sync with overall hotel décor. The lighting was lovely. Room had a beautiful oriental feel to it. Mini bar and internet was complimentary. Internet isn’t Wi-Fi so to access you need to plug in the cable provided which isn’t long so you have to sit at the desk while using it. The view from our room was picturesque at night. Tall buildings on one side. Cybernetic fountain and Nam Van Lake on the other with Macau tower far in distance. At night everything twinkles like out of this world. Highlight of our room was the bathroom. Small but far from usual. Shiny black & gold mosaic tiles and wide mirrors gave illusion of space. Jacuzzi, steam and a sophisticated massage shower makes you linger long. You feel like playing with it. “Lemme see what this dial does.” Click-Trrr-Eshhh. “Mmmm!” So relaxing and fun. Lisboa is worth a visit even if you not staying there. We spent over an hour admiring the artifacts and paintings on display. The halls are grand. Mission is to make way through throngs of trigger happy tourists without spoiling their photos. Pool was alright. The in house Clarins Spa is stylish but the service can’t be customized. You have to take the whole package just to get one thing done. Location wise it is the best for first timers. Senado square is just a little walk away. Shopping, restaurants, casinos and anything you might need as tourist is right outside. In the room there is a handy little guidebook tells you where is what and how to reach there. Since we only had one very late night meal at Lisboa we feel not-so-eligible to comment on their food and service. It was something like 01:00 in the night and luckily one of their five restaurants was open. The meal was good but not the best for the price. Weekends in Macau are eventful and pricey. We paid almost a half more for our stay. At that price maybe they should consider offering complimentary breakfast. Now, we chose Macau as destination purely for gambling fun. In that regard casino Lisboa was disappointing. Lost a star there people. The ambience gives you feel of starring in a classic Hong Kong movie. Smoggy and serious. Made us prefer classy next door neighbor Wynn. The locale is safe. We returned after a night of gambling from Venetian in the wee hours around 4:30 and Lisboa was all lit and welcoming with no one in sight. It was just the two of us in a giant glitzy spaceship. Whimsical, told you.
The hotel staff are very friendly and efficient especially the staff at reception counter. The check in process took less than a minute and we were given a free upgrade to the Royal Tower room. The hotel is super clean and huge too. The warm hospitality that extended to us have made our trip a memorable one and I will definitely recommend it to all my friends who are going to visit Macau. Keep up the good work and if there is a chance we will definitely stay in the same hotel again. Once again thank you to all the hotel staff for providing such a world class service to us.
We stayed at this hotel at the end of July 2012. Pros:Excellent location, great restaurants, clean rooms. We loved the bathroom and the "grandeur"of the hotel. It was close to all the main attractions and casinos. The hotel staff and service was absolutely wonderful. It's really one of the "Grande Dames" in Macau. We stayed in a newly renovated room in the East wing. They are still busy with renovations, thus our hotel room's window was covered by contruction scaffolding. They did apologize for the inconvenience.Unfortunately it stayed an inconvenience. The free mini-bar did make up for it in a way.Thank you for that. The hotel has many fine restaurants and shops.A very nice shopping atmosphere with famous brands at really good prices. Cons:the beds were too hard and made sleeping very difficult.Really a big drawback! Really feel they can improve on their matress quality. The biggest drawback for us was the array of prostitutes at the hotel.Although "high class" ladies, still felt like a brothel. It made the "Grande Dame" feel like a cheap, sleaze hotel.Really feel the management should do something about it! If I wanted to stay in a brothel,I would do so at my own will and choice! All in all a good hotel with excellent service. If you don't mind the array of prostitutes,it would be a great choice if you like old " grandeur" hotels.Really NOT suitable for families!
I booked this hotel because of my budget and it's location. Was quite worried as this a rather old hotel. But I was very happy with stay, way above my expectations. I've booked 3 Standard East Wing rooms but got an upgrade to Deluxe rooms. The room deco is out-dated but it's extremely clean. The bathroom comes with a very high-tech bathtub. They have maintained the room very clean and nice. I love the free Wifi which is pretty fast and enjoyed the free drinks. The only minus point is their beds are quite hard. Location is fantastic, just 10 minutes walk to Senado Square. But on a hot summer day, the walk seems like hours. Enjoyed the Grand Buffet at Grand Lisboa which they have a connecting bridge, fully air-cond. I had this buffet 2 years ago, I noticed their food quality has dropped. Overall, me and my family had a great stay. Totally worth the price we paid!
I agree with most people, an older casino with rooms where the bathrooms have had a make over. The kids found it funny with the pros doing laps 24/7 down stairs. They have a real nice little bakery near the reservations desk with the free inroom drinks breakfast is done. The old lady whom brought us ice at night was fast but needs to smile a bit :) No probs with check in/out The test i guess is would i return, well for the price yes.

Prostitution is legal in Canada, most all of Europe including England, France, Wales, Denmark and most of South America including Mexico, Brazil, Israel, Australia, and many other countries. It is either legal or very tolerated in most all of Asia and even Iran has “temporary wives” which can be for only a few hours! New Zealand passed in 2003 one of the most comprehensive decriminalization acts which even made street hookers legal which is causing many concerns.
See our legal pages for a more comprehensive guide.
