Macau's current CEO Hoat Seng (pictured) has said he will not seek a second term in elections scheduled for October 13 "due to health concerns."

"I keep Macau deep in my heart and did my best for the development of Macau," Ho said in a personal statement released by the government intelligence agency.

"However, due to health issues that have yet to be fully addressed, I have decided not to run [for chief executive position] to ensure the best interests of the region and the long-term development of Macau," he added

Ho said he would give full support to Macau's next chief executive and city government.

In July, the government said Ho had extended his vacation period from July 20 to 29 and applied it comprehensively, adding that he had "daily health checkups and received related medical treatment."

Mr. Ho was elected CEO on August 25, 2019, and took office on December 20 of that year.

Under his leadership, Macau underwent three years of COVID-19 related restrictions, only to be eased in early 2023. His government also oversaw the bidding process and awarding process for Macau's new game permits, which began in January 2023.
