Mario DumontMario Dumont (born May 19, 1970) is a Canadian television personality and former politician in Quebec, Canada. He was a Member of the National Assembly of Quebec (MNA), and the leader of the Action démocratique du Québec (ADQ), from 1994 to 2009. After the 2007 Quebec election, Dumont obtained the post of Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly. Following his party's poor showing in the 2008 Quebec election, he announced his resignation as ADQ leader, and subsequently joined the television network V to host a daily news and talk show, Dumont, which began in 2009. He left that network in 2012 to join the all-news channel LCN.

Papineau (electoral district)Papineau (French pronunciation: [papino]; formerly Papineau—Saint-Denis and Papineau—Saint-Michel) is a federal electoral district (riding) in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons since 1948. Its population in 2016 was 110,750. Justin Trudeau, the former Prime Minister of Canada and former leader of the Liberal Party, represented the riding from the 2008 federal election until he resigned in 2025. Trudeau became Liberal leader in a 2013 leadership election, succeeding Bob Rae, and prime minister when the Liberals returned to government in the 2015 Canadian federal election, succeeding Conservative leader Stephen Harper. The name of the riding comes from a street in the Villeray neighbourhood, named after Joseph Papineau. At nine square kilometres (3.5 square miles), it covers the second smallest area of any federal riding in Canada after Toronto Centre. Linguistically, 45% of residents list French as their mother tongue, 8% list English, and 47% list neither English nor French, with large groups speaking Spanish, Italian, Urdu, Hindi, Punjabi, Pashtu, Bengali, Greek, and Arabic. Immigrants make up 40 percent of the riding's population.

Formerly a separate city, it was amalgamated into the city of Montreal in 2002. The former city was originally called Saint-Leonard de Port Maurice after Leonard of Port Maurice, an Italian saint. The borough is home to Montreal's Via Italia.

Yvette BissonnetYvette Bissonnet is a politician in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. She was a member of the Montreal city council from 2001 to 2009, serving as a member of the Montreal Island Citizens Union (MICU; renamed Union Montreal in 2007). She had previously served on the Saint-Leonard council before that city's amalgamation into Montreal. Bissonnet is married to Michel Bissonnet, a former Liberal member of the National Assembly of Quebec and the current borough mayor of Saint-Leonard. She worked as an administrative secretary before seeking public office.

Ensemble MontréalEnsemble Montréal is a municipal political party in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Its elected officials are present in many districts in Montreal and represent the boroughs of Montréal-Nord (mayor, Christine Black), Saint-Léonard (mayor, Michel Bissonnet), Saint-Laurent (mayor, Alan DeSousa) and Pierrefonds-Roxboro (mayor, Dimitrios (Jim) Beis). Since November 16, 2021, Aref Salem is the interim leader and the 23 elected officials who sit on the Montreal City Council form the Official Opposition. The party held power from 2013 until 2017 during the administration of Denis Coderre, at the time known as Équipe Denis Coderre pour Montréal. Following Coderre's defeat to Projet Montréal's Valérie Plante in the 2017 election, Coderre left municipal politics, and the candidates that had been elected under the party's banner changed its name to Ensemble Montréal. He returned in the 2021 election but resigned following his mayoral defeat. MP Soraya Martinez Ferrada was elected leader by acclamation on February 28, 2025, ahead of the municipal election. The party has been a broad coalition of politicians who came from a variety of different parties prior to Ensemble's creation, but it is generally considered to sit to the right of Projet Montréal on most issues. The party draws most of its support from wealthier and more suburban parts of the city.
2025 Montreal municipal electionMunicipal elections will be held in the city of Montreal, Quebec, Canada on November 2, 2025, as part of the 2025 Quebec municipal elections. Voters will elect 103 representatives in a first-past-the-post electoral system. The general election decides the majority composition of the city council and each of the 19 borough councils. The newly elected mayor appoints 2 city councillors for the Ville-Marie borough. In total, 18 borough mayors, 46 city councillors and 38 borough councillors will be elected. Incumbent mayor Valérie Plante decided not to run for reelection to a third term.
