Lyon Resistance

Lyon is the third-largest city and second-largest urban area of France, known as gastronomical capital of France and the city where cinema was born! It is located in the country's east-central part at the confluence of the rivers Rhône and Saône.

The logo is composed of the city's most popular features: the Lion, Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière and the Virgin Mary statue besides the Basilica.

The Lion is the one of the city's symbol since middle ages, with documented use since year 1320 by the Counts of Lyon, they can be found everywhere in the city:

The Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière was built between 1872 and 1884 in a dominant position overlooking the city. The Basilica is dedicated to the Virgin Mary, it is believed that the Virgin saved the city from the bubonic plague, the Black Death, that swept Europe in 1643. Each year in early December (December 8th, day of the Immaculate Conception), Lyon thanks the Virgin for saving the city by lighting candles throughout the city, in what is called the Fête des Lumières or the Festival of Lights. The Virgin is also credited with saving the city a number of other times, such as from a Cholera epidemic in 1832, and from Prussian invasion in 1870. A true symbol of Resistance for the people of Lyon!

The Virgin Mary Statue is located in the top of Virgin Mary Chapel, right besides to the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fouvière.
