AMY MALINDA JENKINS oldest daughter Of John Cass and Rozillar Jenkins, was born in McKean Township Erie County Pennsylvania on January 19, 1847. She was reared in the then new section of Erie County. Her education was not very good. She was married in 1864 to Alonzo Jessie McCombs of Franklin Township, Pennsylvania. Alonzo soon afterwards enlisted in the United states Army on September 4, 1864 at Erie, Pennsylvania. He was mustered into service September 19, as a private IndependentBattery B Pennsylvania Light Militia Artillery. He died March 24, 1865 at Second Division U. S. General Hospital, Virginia. By this union Amy was blessed with one son Alonzo Jesse McCombs, born May 3, 1865. At the age of eight he was sent to Soldiers Orphan School until he was sixteen. About 1896 or 1897 he was married to Nellie Bishop. They had two children a son., James, born about 1900 and a daughter named Cenah born in 1908. Cenah died February 16, 1909.
James McCombs was married In August, 1925 to Mildred Hays, daughter of Parker Hays a progressive farmer of Elkcreek Township. James and Mildred have two sons Caron and Parker.
Alonzo Jessie McCombs died in April, 1931.
Amy Malinda Jenkins McCombs was married again in 1870 to William Henry Harrison Collins of Elkcreek Township. They settled on a small farm in Elkcreek. They had two children Clarence Eugene Collins and Hetta Collins.
Clarence Eugene Collins was born on December 29, 1872, received a country school education was married April 10, 1895 to Victoria Eaton daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Scott Eaton of Elkcreek Township. To them were born three children Gladys Pauline, Clarence Everett and Donald Fay Collins.
Gladys Pauline Collins, daughter of Clarence and Victoria Collins was born December 29, 1897. She went to grade school and was married May 11, 1921 to Walter Louis Herbel, a farmer, and now live near Conneaut Ohio. They were blessed with three children- Vaugh Edward Herbel born on October 7, 1922, Phillis June Herbel born June 14, 1925 and Keith Collins Herbel born September 14, 1931 died February 18, 1932.
Clarence Everett Collins, son of Clarence Eugene Collins, was born July 8, 1902, had the advantage of a grade school education, was married October 26, 1926 to Sadie Feenstra. They have one son Dale Kent Collins born on December 19, 1935.
Donald Pay Collins, youngest child of Clarence and Victoria Collins was born May 6, 1924.
Hetta Collins, daughter of William and Amy Malinda Collins, was born January 13, 1874. She graduated from the Edinboro State Normal School at Edinboro, Pennsylvania and taught school for several years. On February 14, 1910 she married Clayton Elroy Manning a farmer, They have one son born July 12, 1914.
Clayton Elroy Manning died November 11, 1919.
Hetta Collins Manning passed away July 26, 1926.
Amy Malinda Collins died October 28, 1922.
HUNNEWELL HATHAWAY JENKINS, second son of John Cass and Rozillar Jenkins, was born in Franklin Township, March 7, 1849. He was reared in the woods and educated at the Silverthorn and Foy schools. About 1870 he went to Michigan, near Big Rapids, and lived with his grandfather and grandmother until their death. He then returned home in 1885, stayed a short time and in 1886 want back to Michigan. Two years later he married Mrs. Lydia Barton, a widow with a son named Welcome. Hunnewell returned home with his wife in 1890, but went back to Michigan the following year. Once more he returned to Pennsylvania in 1907 accompanied by his wife and daughter, Emogene. About 1910 Lydia and Emogene went to Michigan where Lydia died shortly afterwards. Lydia's son, Welcome, had gone to Montana and Emogene went out to see him, and while there she married a man by the name of Gilson. That is the last we heard from Emogene. Hunnewell remained In Franklin Township, where he lived alone and died in the Hamot (Hemot) Hospital, June 5, 1931.
JOHN MELVIN JENKINS, third son of John C. and Rozillar Jenkins, was born in Franklin Township on March 17, 1851. He was educated mostly in the Foy schoolhouse. When Johnn was nineteen years old he said, “I’ve got to look after number one." He went to the oil fields of Pennsylvania to seek a fortune. He soon went broke and returned home by freight train. He remained at home a short time and then went to Michigan, stayed a few months, got married, and came home again broke. He got a job at the Manchester Paper Mill. John and his wife soon parted, he then made another tour of the Pennsylvania oil fields, but with no better success, and returned to Erie, Pennsylvania. On July 20. 1879 he married to Mrs. Elizabeth Fisher whose husband was killed in the paper mill. She had three children, two boys and
a. girl, who all died in their teens.
John then got a horse and wagon and started tending market. He moved from one place to another and finally bought a small farm near Sterrettannia, Pennsylvania. In the mean time he and Elizabeth were blessed with two daughters, Effie and Jennie who by now were about sixteen and eighteen years old. With the help of the girls and Elizabeth he began to accumulate some of this world's wealth.
EFFIE JENKINS was born at Manchester, Pennsylvania May 3, 1880. She received a county school education at Eureka School and the Townline. She stayed at home and worked until she was married
January 6, 1905 to Charles Struchon, a farmer of Fairview Township. To them was born four children, George, Nellie Floyd and Lloyd.
George was a born May, 7, 1907 In Erie, Pennsylvania, received a country school education. He stayed home until he was married to Cecil Roony in 1932. George now has a farm in Fairview. They have one girl, Charlene, born November 26, 1938.
Nellie Struchen was born January 29, 1910, stayed home and worked until July 10, 1937 when she was married to Howard Mayer.
Floyd and Lloyd were born November 27, 1910-3?, . Floyd died on November 2, 1914. Lloyd still lives at home and is not married.
JENNIE JENKINS was born at Swanville, Pennsylvania August 12, 1882 and was educated in country schools. She lived at home, worked out of doors; in the house; went to market; and really took the place of a boy. Jennie was married February 16, 1910 to Daniel Shuetz, a farmer of McKean Township. They had four children, Vern,Anna, Earl, and Elanor.
VERN SHUETZ (SCHUETZ?) was born in McKean December 10, 1910. He received a country school education and was married to Mildred Satterlee. They have one son Bryon Daniel Schuetz born May 20, 1937.
ANNA SHUETZ was born December 10, 1914 and is still single.
EARL SHUETZ was born March 9, 1915. He was married June 1, 1939 to Marjory Stough, a farmer's daughter.
ELANOR SHUETZ ,was born February 12, 1920. She lives at home and is single.
Elizabeth Jenkins died September 18, 1914.
John M. Jenkins passed away March 7, 1929 leaving an estate several thousands of dollars.
Mary Agnes Jenkins was born in a log cabin in Franklin Township, Erie County, Pennsylvania on July 19, 1863. She was the daughter of John C. and Rozillar Jenkins. Mary attended the Foy school and in 1880 went to the Waterford Academy for one term. She worked on the farm and in the house as an all a round helper. On April 19, 1885 she was married to Ernest S. LeSuer of Franklin Township, Erie County, Pennsylvania. To them were born two sons Elmer Allen and Floyd Emerson. Agnes and family moved to Oil City, Pennsylvania in 1905 and from there to Alabama in 1911. A year later they returned to Pennsylvania and now live at McLane, Pennsylvania. Agnes united with the Christian Advent Church in 1891 and is still a member. With the exception of seven or eight years, she has lived within five miles of where she was born.
Elmer Allen LeSuer, son of Agnes and Ernest LeSuer, was born in McKean, Pennsylvania on December 2, 1886. He received a fair education, took a correspondence course in drafting from the Seranton Correspondence School. Elmer got a job as a draftsman in a machine shop in Oil City. He was married on March 25, 1909 to Miss Emma Wise of Oil City, Pennsylvania. He went to Detroit, Michigan in 1910 and worked for the Ford Motor Company. He worked here until 1919 and then came back to Pennsylvania and tried farming for a few until ill health overtook him. He was employed by some Erie firms as a draftsman, and was called back to Detroit in 1936 where he now resides. Elmer and Emma were blessed with five children. Elmer Allen Jr., Hazel Virginia, Roger Frederick, Marjorie Eileen (my mother), Robert Blaine.
Mamie Jenkins, last of the family of five was born on April 27, 1893 in Franklin Township. On May 11, 1910 Mamie was married to Verda I. McKinley an Erie County farmer. At the same time her brother Ray went west, and Mamie and her family journeyed to Santa Paula, Californian. Here they remained for about fifteen months, and in July, 1913 Mamie and her children returned to Pennsylvania. Verda followed a few months later. Their family consisted. of two girls and two boys, Gladys Viola, Ralph Dewitt, Hazel Arlene and William Ray.

This is the second time I saw a lady being mentioned before her husband on a grave. I wonder why that is- did the women die first? And if so, how did they finish carving the rest of the graves when their husbands died? I still have a lot of questions.
