Quite possibly the worst film I have ever suffered through, although one may ask why I did indeed suffer through it: the reason was I kept thinking that it would get better and the asinine plot would somehow come together in a vaguely logical way notwithstanding the necessary suspension of belief that is required for such a film. So-called gratuitous violence rarely worries me too much, but in this case, it truly was gratuitous - no particular reason for it, and not seemingly 100% connected to the "plot", although I must use that word loosely. Just dreadful. A waste of money, and I cannot help feeling that surely I could have done something even marginally useful with the time I spent watching it.

ScFi that makes you think. Stays with you after watching it. I wasn’t sure that the animals humping was quite necessary, but they did help illustrate a central point of the movie, that life/evolution is about developing knowledge and then passing it forward to the next generation. It’s hard not to draw comparisons with the final act of Stanley Kubrick’s “2001: a Space Odyssey”, but, of course, for 10%ers, impossible. Scientifically of course, that humans use only 10% of their brains is a myth. Look it up on the Internet and read peer reviewed journals to discover that humans use pretty much all of their brain capacity- and consider how much energy it requires to maintain a human brain. Other animals have used this energy for other evolutionary paths. In an environment of scarcity, creatures do not develop useless appendages! But, leaving aside science, this is an intriguing, involving, and satisfying movie.

what's not to like?? Sexy Scarlett Johannson, transforming her intellectual potential into real powers of mind over matter as more and more of her brain matter is brought to full awareness and full utilization from exposure to a fetal developmental hormone. It's a wild ride, as Lucy grows quickly into a kind of supernerd with super mental capabilities, but with a caveat that forces her to align her efforts with the most critical thinking minds of scientific investigation. There's a lot, I mean a LOT, of gun-wielding violence as Lucy struggles to evade the attacks on her for purely business reasons at first, and then ultimately for personal as well as business motivations. If you enjoy sci-fi that is imaginable but unlikely, this will overflow your cup. There's also some really great comic lines intertwined with the outrageous adventure scenes, and one finds that the flic satisfies on many levels.

Suffice it to say the back story is supposed to be real. A real person was genetically altered and that person was the basis for two separate on screen personae- Data from Star Trek and Lucy from this movie. If you want I'll give you the reference you can look up. The name is Douglas Dietrich. Claims to be an ex-librarian at the Presidio Army base back in the '70s. Is currently a renowned personality in the conspiracy theory community. By now there are probably hundreds of hours of interviews where he tells of his personal history. I don't remember which interview or when it took place where he explains that he was pumped full of synthetic blood which had lasting effects on him. Actually most everything he sez is worth a listen. In regards to this movie, he claims there are hidden aspects of mis/dis information. Like the bad guys are Taiwanese drug cartel dudes. Anyhoo. Good movie, good story. My only complaint about this movie is the lack of skin. No ScarJo nudity. What gives? We know she'll do nude scenes including full frontal, so I just hope she wraps her pretty little head around the idea that her movies will do better if she shows some sking. Just sayin'.

We all know that the "10 percent brain use" of humans is a myth. This is based on a "what if" this was true and not preached as true. We cannot physically time travel but it does not stop us from watching and enjoying movies where the theme is time travel. If you can move past the myth then you may enjoy the movie. The reason I especially enjoyed the movie was knowing how we are all connected through energy and the themes of energy explored in the movie.

I'd never seen this movie before buying on 4K UHD Blu-Ray. I purchased it because I read that it was basically a demo disc showing off what the format could do. It did not disappoint! The colors drawn from HDR are like nothing I had seen before! It blew me away! Picture quality was incredible, very sharp. The audio was also very immersive. However, I also found that the movie itself was also very good and worth the purchase! I was very surprised as the trailers were not very interesting at all and made it seem like an actiony movie with super powers but that is not the case. It was actually a very good sci-fi flick if you ignore the fake science that it's premise is based on. I highly recommend it, especially in the 4K UHD Blu-Ray format as it comes with a Standard Blu-Ray as well so even if you don't have a 4K Blu-Ray player now you can upgrade later and this copy will still be relevant.

Lucy was a very original and thought provoking movie when it came out. The theme was about evolution, the power of the mind, and knowledge. It features Lucy (Scarlett Johansson) as a young woman in Taiwan who has her boyfriend killed by a Korean gangster named Mr. Jang (Choi Min-sik). Jang turns Lucy into a drug mule to bring a brand new product to the U.S. except it ends up going into her blood stream and transforms her. Morgan Freeman is Professor Samuel Norman who has studied the brain and how only a little bit of it is used by people. If they were to tap into the rest who knows what could happen. That’s what’s happening to Lucy. Director Luc Besson uses some great imagery to push the story along. At the start for example, Lucy’s boyfriend Richard (Pilou Asbaek) is trying to get her to deliver a case to Mr. Jang which he obviously doesn't want to do because he’s afraid. While they talk there’s a flash of a mouse sniffing a piece of cheese on a mouse trap symbolizing that Richard is leading Lucy into danger. Then as she enters Mr. Jang’s hotel there are pictures of African caribou being chased down and killed by cheetahs, which is what’s going to happy to Lucy when she meets the gangster she is going to be hunted and trapped. There are also great action scenes throughout and subtle humor. Mr. Jang for example tells Lucy she has to open the case Richard gave her. Beforehand Jang hides behind a corner and his guards all come out with riot shields to protect themselves. Lucy asks what’s in the case and she’s told there’s nothing dangerous in it it’s just that Jang doesn't trust Richard. At another time, Lucy lands in Paris and is being tracked down by Jang’s gangsters and takes a group of them out with the power of her mind throwing them left and right, up and down. The real message of the movie was about knowledge. If people were able to use more parts of their brain what could they do? What could they accomplish? If they could use all of it would they stop being human eventually and become pure thought? The importance of Lucy’s transformation is shown in the opening when they show Lucy who is believed to be the origins of the human race and the first woman. This was how the human race began and how it has evolved over time. Lucy is the next step in that evolution. It’s the mix of all these elements that made Lucy a must see film when it was released. C

Ok I've read allot of reviews just trying to find out if the 4K UHD is worth the upgrade. I already owned this on regular DVD. This review will be not on the Movie but the picture quality. You either like this movie or don't like this movie. I myself Loved this movie. I love the premise. The Picture quality is stunning!!! The detail is amazing, this movie was actually shot (filmed) in 4K that actually makes a huge difference when being transferred to disc. No up-converting and other stuff. Colors pop and detail as in beads of sweat on faces are amazing. As far as sound I only have a LG Sound Bar with subwoofer and that sounds amazing. If you have a true surround sound system you will be happy! I can highly recommend this 4K UHD Blu-ray Upgrade if you have a 4K UHD TV and 4K UHD Blu-ray player. Comes with 2 disc, and a digital code. One disc is the move and the other is extra's. The Making of the movie with interviews and the Science behind unlocking your brain. Pretty cool stuff.
