Changed its name from Scrotal Recall to Lovesick.
Here's the Twitch Film review. Rather more positive! "Imagine the love child of Judd Apatow and Edgar Wright and you're getting into the right space with Scrotal Recall. The writing is certainly witty and stylized but not so much as to obscure the human core of the characters, the content poking gleeful fun at the foolishness its characters engage in in the service of sex and relationships. It's edginess relies more on wit than raunch, which is a refreshing change, and the treatment of its characters surprisingly heartfelt. Time will tell if it has legs but one episode in and Scrotal Recall is one of the most promising British comedies of recent years."

From Booklist This compelling story of recovery takes us through 28 days in an inpatientclinic for female sex addicts. Silverman explores the psychology of addictionon a deeply personal level, sharing her struggles with self-destructivetendencies and her desperate desire to be loved, no matter what the cost.Molested repeatedly by her father during her childhood, she realizes theconnection between her sexual abuse and her desire to be loved by dangerous, inaccessible men. She finds she must come to terms with anger at her mother, who refused to recognize the sexual abuse of her daughters and intervene ontheir behalf. Candid, emotionally raw, often frightening, Silverman's accountis never sugarcoated, and there are no happy platitudes or breezy successstories in it. It is deeply moving, however, and should inspire anyone goingthrough a 12-step program, whether for sexual addiction or other conditions, and help addicts' friends and family members understand the journey their lovedones must travel in order to heal. The book was harrowing, as was the author's life, but gratifying to see she'd made such progress in stabilizing her better intuitions, her better self. It was an amazing journey, for the author, and for all of us who were along with her. There's this, too — her psychiatrist deserves gold medals — for his insight, his diligence, his refusal to give up on this patient. And when I say harrowing, I don't mean that as a put-down, or an accusation. The author didn't choose to have this very difficult condition, but she did ultimately choose to move away from its influence. I say to her, I'm so glad you were so strong. Clearly the condition was powerful, alarmingly powerful, but that's what makes her story so impressive. To her psychiatrist,,, you're who and what we want in a health care provider. To the author's family: you also get praise and credit. I'd say that anyone dealing with borderline personality disorder, or any other extremely difficult situation, could find strength and motivation here. I was very impressed with the book and glad I read it.

Silverman takes the reader on a very personal and emotionally intense journey. Her prose is lyric and beautiful. Her in-the-moment attention to detail-- we follow her gaze, both externally and internally--pulls the reader in, and allows us to walk the path beside the narrator. We can't help but see bits of ourselves and our own struggles on the page. I did not see the movie, as I am always afraid that they might ruin it, so I can't speak to that. For me, the beauty of the writing is so intermingled with the narrative that I wouldn't want to dilute the experience, but the story is so powerful I'm glad the movie exists in order to reach a larger audience. This is a subject matter not often talked about, or written about, yet it touches many of us on different levels.

This book is much better than the film. It gives a personal account of the grips of addiction and the internal resistance to sobriety. Most importantly it depicts that compulsively seeking out a fix has nothing to do with the fix satisfying the need. Because the book is set in part during the course of the authors life when she is seeking treatment there is a wealth of insight of understanding the struggle to comprehend love for a person who survived childhood sexual abuse. This book is an important read for anyone struggling to have a healthy relationship after overcoming trauma.

Throughout this book and her previous book, I felt myself transported. Sue William Silverman's mastery of the craft of writing is incredible. So much so, that it compelled me to journey through the horrors of childhood trauma and its chilling repercussions of sexual addiction. On each page, I felt her vulnerability and desperation and led me into the book so completely that the story began to feel personal. I have the utmost respect for any survivor who takes on the challenge of discovery of themselves, especially when it leads to subject matter borderlining on madness. The courage that it takes for one to walk through the darkness and emerge an intact person is such a rarity. To combine that courage with such written eloquence so that we may accompany her, is just beyond words. Thank you, Sue for bringing us your story. It is evident how hard you've worked to become the incredible woman and author that you are.

Sue William Silverman reveals herself so honestly, I can only admire her. It seems trite to say she is "courageous" but yet cannot think of a better word. (I don't think I'd be able to do it!) And she does it with so much insight that telling it all has a real purpose and is not self pity. She clearly has come through a lot and is to be commended for sharing her newfound insight with those of us who are too good at hiding the truth to get proper help! I spent some years living a sexually compulsive life and have found the path away from it to be long. At this point I can't even recognize myself, I've changed so much, but still found reading this book to be very healing and affirming, and that her insight helped clarify some issues that have come up for me, as I deal with the truth.

I found out about this book through watching the movie on Lifetime. I knew I had to read it because I struggle with the same issue myself and wanted to learn more information. I could relate on so many levels and felt she accurately portrayed the emotions and thoughts that go on during the "addict self." I enjoyed learning about her personal journey through counseling and building herself from the ground up at a rehabilitation center for Sex/ Love Addicts. She narrated her story in a journaling sort of way that was new and fresh. The book was well written and took humbling courage to be able to put such deep, painful experiences out in the open for everyone to read. I suggest everyone read this book to get a new perspective on another kind of addiction that is very different from alcohol or drugs. Also, watch the movie on Lifetime...it is very good!

This book described me and my life. If you have suffered incest, rape, divorced parents or dysfunctional family patterning that set you on a path in search of that "love high" then this book is for you. If you have ever applied the term "looking for love in all the wrong places" to yourself and you have had sex with many "wrong" people in order to be loved (if only for a few hours) then you will find yourself described on every page of this painfully honest, brilliantly written and enlightening book. Thank you Sue for writing about an addiction that is more about love than sex and is as powerful and destructive as any other. An addiction that is, when rarely spoken about, completely misunderstood.

A stunningly beautiful book about a topic that many would struggle to even wrap their heads around. Silverman's prose is intoxicating and lyrical, her journey honest and harrowing. So many times I want to shake her, but that's part of the point. I've never read a story of addiction that truly captured what it must feel like while in the grip of it. This is an important memoir.

misleading title

The book should've been called 28 days of rehab for sex addiction. The whole book is the author through rehab... kind of boring and repetitive honestly. Not what i expected

Now a Lifetime Television original movie airing April 2008 with Sally Pressman, star of Army Wives .
Sue William Silverman's new book is "How to Survive Death and Other Inconveniences." Many are haunted and obsessed by their own eventual deaths, but perhaps no one as much as Sue. This thematically linked collection of essays charts Silverman’s attempt to confront her fears of that ultimate unknown. (University of Nebraska Press, American Lives Series).
Her previous memoir-in-essays is "The Pat Boone Fan Club: My Life as a White Anglo-Saxon Jew." The book describes Sue's search for authentic self-identity - a search complicated by her conflicted feelings toward Judaism and her various efforts to "pass" as Christian. At the heart of this journey are three separate encounters with 1960s pop-music icon, turned Christian provocateur, Pat Boone, who plays a pivotal role in her desire to belong to the dominant culture. It is published with the University of Nebraska Press as part of their American Lives Series, edited by Tobias Wolff.
An earlier memoir is "Love Sick: One Woman's Journey through Sexual Addiction" (W. W. Norton), which is also a Lifetime Television original movie. During the filming, Sue visited the set and makes a cameo appearance in the movie!
Her first memoir, "Because I Remember Terror, Father, I Remember You" (University of Georgia Press), won the AWP award series in creative nonfiction. Her two poetry collections are "If the Girl Never Learns" and "Hieroglyphics in Neon." Sue's book on craft is "Fearless Confessions: A Writer's Guide to Memoir," which won Honorable Mention in "ForeWord Review's" book of the year award.
Check out the photos of Sue on this page! In one she is with Pat Boone after one of his concerts. In another, she stands beside the actress Sally Pressman, who portrays Sue in the movie "Love Sick." And another from the movie set shows Sue standing outside her movie trailer! There is also a photo of Sue teaching a workshop in creative nonfiction.
As a professional speaker, Sue has appeared on such television programs as The View, Anderson Cooper-360, and CNN-Headline News. She teaches in the low-residency MFA in Writing program at the Vermont College of Fine Arts. Sue believes we all have a story to tell, that all our voices are important, and encourages others to write their life narratives, too.
Her partner is the poet Marc Sheehan, and they have two cats, Bijou and Siobahn.
