Madam Justice A. Lori Douglas - with her clothes ON.
We’ve been covering the salacious tale of Madam Justice A. Lori Douglas , a Canadian judge, for several months now. Justice Douglas — associate chief justice of the Court of Queen’s Bench of Manitoba, and a member of the Canadian Judicial Council — is currently the subject of an ethics investigation . As mentioned earlier , “naked photographs of [Justice Douglas] engaging in bondage, playing with sex toys and performing oral sex were previously posted on the internet.”
Our stories on Justice Douglas, collected here , have been quite popular. They have generated strong traffic. But some readers had the predictable reaction of TTIWWOP — “This Thread Is Worthless Without Pictures.”
We’ve posted selected photographs of Judge Lori Douglas in the pages that follow. Since many of you access this site at work, we have redacted the pictures to remove any nudity. As redacted, they don’t show any body parts that you couldn’t see in the pages of a mainstream Hollywood gossip magazine or during a day at the beach (in the United States, not Europe).
Some of you might object to our running these photographs. We have several responses:
1. These photographs are newsworthy and relate to a matter of legitimate public concern. Although she’s not currently hearing cases , pending the conclusion of the ethics investigation, Justice Douglas remains a judge, a position of power and prominence. In evaluating the seriousness of the ethics complaint against Justice Douglas, it is important to see exactly what is at issue.
This is why even U.S. Supreme Court justices have had to sully their eyes with pornography over the years, in order to decide obscenity cases. As Justice Potter Stewart famously wrote , “I know it when I see it” — but he had to “see it” first.
2. These nude pictures are already widely available on the internet. We have not placed on the web anything that wasn’t already there. If you find the presence of these images on the web to be objectionable, then direct your objections to whoever placed them on the web in the first instance (quite possibly Justice Douglas’s husband, lawyer Jack King, according to one version of events ).
3. Many mainstream websites, such as Gawker and Deadspin, post naked pics in unredacted form. We have at least made tasteful redactions.
4. To each his own. Maybe nude photographs of a middle-aged, slightly overweight judge from Canada aren’t your cup of tea. That’s fine. But don’t complain about other people finding their bliss.
If you don’t want to look at these pictures — which, as noted, feature a woman “engaging in bondage, playing with sex toys and performing oral sex” — then STOP READING NOW . Nobody is tying you to your Aeron chair and forcing you to ogle these images. To be taken to the official Hasbro homepage for My Little Pony, click here .
And now, for those of you who are willing, let’s move on to the photos. At the end of the slideshow, we’ll provide you with instructions on how to access unredacted versions of these images, in case you’re interested.

Some members of a committee who recommended Justice Lori Douglas be appointed to the bench were later shocked to learn explicit photos of her had been posted on the Internet, a Canadian Judicial Council inquiry was told Tuesday.
"Some of them will come and say that when it was made public in 2010, they almost fell from their chair, they were so surprised," said inquiry independent counsel Suzanne Cote.
That contradicted the evidence of Justice Martin Freedman, chair of the committee, who testified in 2012 that committee members were well aware of allegations that Douglas's husband Jack King had solicited a client to have sex with Douglas and posted nude pictures of her on the Internet.
Cote is opposing a motion by Douglas's lawyer to quash the inquiry, derailed two years ago following the resignation of original independent counsel Guy Pratte and the subsequent resignation of the original inquiry panel.
"This is not a matter for summary dismissal," Cote said. "The evidence is far from complete."
Cote said former federal justice minister Irwin Cotler is expected to testify he was "completely unaware" of the Internet pictures when he agreed to appoint Douglas to the bench in 2005. Had he known about the pictures, "he will say this would have raised issues about her judgment," Cote said.
"You cannot ignore the evidence of the person appointing the judge," she said.
King, the Winnipeg lawyer whose actions set the inquiry in motion, died last October. An inquiry was ordered into Douglas's conduct after one of King's former clients, Alex Chapman, went public in 2010 with revelations that King, seven years earlier, had tried to lure him into a sexual tryst with Douglas, then a lawyer in private practice, and had posted nude pictures of Douglas on the Internet.
Douglas, who has yet to testify at the inquiry, has always maintained she had no knowledge of her husband's actions.
Chapman told King's law firm of his overtures in June 2003 and negotiated a $25,000 agreement to keep quiet. Chapman was later ordered to repay the money after a judge ruled he had violated the nondisclosure agreement.
The inquiry is tasked with determining whether Douglas failed to disclose knowledge of the Internet pictures when she applied to become a judge, whether she changed a personal diary entry after learning she was the subject of an investigation, and whether her continuing presence on the bench undermines the integrity of the justice system.
Regardless of what other people knew, "it is arguable (Douglas) had the obligation to explicitly disclose that the (pictures) had been in the public domain," Cote said. "She did not make such a disclosure."
Sheila Block, Douglas's lawyer, said the inquiry panel should not look at the pictures, arguing it would be a further violation of her privacy.
Cote said the panel has no choice but to view the pictures.
"You are obliged to see the pictures to come to a conclusion," she said. "You cannot simply ignore what it is that these images depict."

Hearing: Lori Douglas faces losing her job as a Manitoba associate chief justice after her lawyer husband posted sexually explicit photos of her online
A divorce lawyer has told a court how he liked to take sexually explicit photographs of his wife, a senior judge, and post them on an adult dating website.
Jack King, from Winnipeg, Canada, has already admitted placing the photos online and harassing a black client to have sex with his wife, Lori Douglas, saying she was seeking an interracial affair.
He was last year fined CAD$13,650 ($13,400 / £8,630) by the Law Society of Manitoba after pleading guilty to professional misconduct but kept his licence to practice law.
But Ms Douglas still faces losing her job as a Manitoba associate chief justice.
Mr King, who has previously described his behaviour as 'disgraceful', yesterday told a Canadian Judicial Council inquiry: 'I think it was around 100 to 150 photos.
'A lot of it was weather-related. If it was warm outside, if it was sunny outside, one could be outside naked.'
Both Mr King and Ms Douglas claim that he posted the explicit photos on adult website DarkCavern.com without her knowledge in 2003 and that she had no idea he was asking men to have sex with her.
The images reportedly showed a naked Ms Douglas posing with sex toys and performing sex acts.
Mr King told the hearing that his wife may not even have been aware that he kept the photos, which he stashed away in an envelope at the bottom of his sock drawer.
He said: 'I did not tell her that they were there. I deduced that she did not know that they were there.'
The scandal started when Mr King represented computer programmer Alexander Chapman in his divorce case.
Mr Chapman said his attorney then sent him explicit photographs of his wife, as well as links to where they were posted on the adult website in an ad seeking black or Hispanic men for sex.
'I wanted to puke,' Mr Chapman said two years ago. 'They were disgusting. I felt sick because I couldn't believe my lawyer was saying this to me.'
Seeking compensation: Alexander Chapman said his divorce lawyer Jack King sent him explicit photographs of his wife, as well as links to where they were posted on an adult website in an ad seeking black or Hispanic men for sex
Mr Chapman said Mr King spent numerous weeks trying to lure him into having sex with his wife. He claimed he met the couple - but never took it any further.
He said: 'As a black guy I'm really sad that he looked at me as a sex object.'
After his divorce was finalised in 2003, Mr Chapman told Mr King's law firm - Thompson Dorfman Sweatman - and was paid CAD$25,000 ($24,500 / £15,800) by his lawyer in compensation.
But Mr Chapman broke that settlement and went public with the scandal in 2010, claiming he was 'discouraged by the administration of justice in Manitoba' in 2003 and seeking CAD$67million ($65.7million / £42.4million) in compensation.
After Mr King's disciplinary hearing last year, his wife now faces four allegations, reports the Montreal Gazette.
She is accused of sexually harassing Mr Chapman; failing to disclose the situation when she was interviewed for judicial appointment in 2005; failing to disclose the full facts to an inquiry; and that the photos have undermined her ability to act as a judge.
