Loreto and AWAKEN Agree to Develop Future Co-Management of 2.5 Million Hectares — Pilot Project to Begin in Tamshiyacu Tahuayo
AWAKEN NetworkThe Regional Government of Loreto and AWAKEN have reached an agreement to launch a Pilot Project of Digital Ecological Governance in the Tamshiyacu Tahuayo Communal Regional Conservation Area (ACR). This pilot will serve as the foundation for developing future co-management contracts that could extend to more than 2.5 million hectares of regional conservation areas in Loreto.

The announcement was made during an official session attended by Dr. Yuriy Polyukhovych, Ambassador of Ukraine to Peru, and Olga Sytnyk, founder of AWAKEN, together with scientists from Ukraine and Peru, representatives of the National University of the Peruvian Amazon (UNAP), specialists from the Peruvian Amazon Research Institute (IIAP), and regional authorities of Loreto.

During the meeting, the AWAKEN system—combining artificial intelligence, ecological sensors, satellite imagery, and geospatial modeling—was presented as a new model for ecological governance. Both sides confirmed that a joint Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is currently being prepared, which will formalize the cooperation once signed.

The pilot in Tamshiyacu Tahuayo marks the first step. While implementation begins, the parties will work in parallel on drafting the co-management agreements that will later expand across the 2.5 million hectares of protected Amazon forests in Loreto.
