Heads up! We’re working hard to be accurate – but these are unusual times, so please always check before heading out.
Get kitted out in a one-of-a-kind outfit at these brilliant boutiques
We might be biased, but we think London is pretty ace for   shopping . Fashion hunters travel from all over the world to buy threads in our capital, but it’s not just designers that are causing a stir – shopping in London’s vintage stores is a way of tapping into trends from across the ages in one of the world’s most fashionable cities.
Plus, there’s plenty of reasons to favour   second-hand clothes   to new garbs. They’re more affordable, more   eco-friendly   AND you’re less likely to rock up to a party wearing the same frock as someone else. The downside? It can take a little more time to rummage through the rails – but we’ve helped with that by pulling together the best vintage and retro shops from across London. From carefully curated boutiques to piles of vintage denim waiting to be plundered, here are the best vintage shops in London.
A firm favourite in the world of vintage, Blackout 2 has been providing bright and beautiful clothes, handbags and shoes for decades. The Covent Garden spot is bursting with one-off items, from 1930s cocktail frocks to full-skirted ’50s dresses and a few slinky numbers. Menswear consists of suits, jackets and overcoats dating from the ’40s onwards. The store also has an exquisite range of 1920s flapper dresses to hire, so you can dress to kill without killing your bank balance.
Back in 2002, Reign Vintage started out trading at the markets of Portobello and Camden before setting up in bricks and mortar in London and Oxford. New stock is added daily to the bounty of retro and vintage wares, which spans everything from skimpy ’60s playsuits to jazzy shell-suits. Prices are affordable, too – around £30 for a pretty vintage shirt. Plus, its well-stocked online shop makes it dangerously easy to rummage through the virtual rails.
Is this a vintage shop, or a museum of historical artefacts? It’s hard to tell at The Vintage Showroom, a refined menswear store specialising in Americana (denim, sweats, a few choice tees) and classic military and British pieces. The incredible collection is the work of Roy Luckett and Doug Gunn, who lovingly curate stock of an incredibly high calibre. Price tags reflect the time and care gone into cataloguing these pieces, but fans of heritage menswear will get it.
Fun, refined, and neatly turned out, it’s easy to find an entire outfit at Pelicans and Parrots. Around 90 percent of stock is sourced from Italy, hence why you’ll find brands like Moschino, Valentino, Missoni and Versace, together with objet d’art from around the world. Need somewhere to rock your new garbs? Check out the underground events space for gig nights with a fashionable lean – you’ll just need to find the secret entrance first.
What started out in a London warehouse in 2002 has grown into a behemoth of the vintage world, with stores across the UK and Sweden. Beyond Retro has a mammoth selection of clothing and accessories, including a range of reworked dresses, skirts and tops with more contemporary tailoring. There’s styles to suit all tastes, too, including silk, sportswear, denim and tie-dye. There are three shops across London to get lost in, but their flagship in Dalston is still a favourite, with a vast but well-edited collection of clothing as well as an onsite café.
Find French workwear jackets, Levi’s denim and camo shirts galore hanging from the bountiful rails of Atika, one of London’s slickest vintage department stores. There’s more than 20,000 items to browse, and it’s all killer and no filler in this well-curated shop. Buyers Jan Skinners and John Howlin look to nearby Brick Lane for their inspiration, offering a selection of easy-to-wear and high-quality items, peppered with a few reworked original pieces.
When an off-the-rack frock just won’t do, head over to Circa Vintage. Their impeccable selection of vintage gowns, blouses and blazers are among the best in the capital. Shop online and in their Fulham boutique for Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, Moschino and more from the ’20s through to the ’80s, all steam-cleaned, listed online and ready to rock. Bargain basement this ain’t, but if you need a bougie outfit for a special occasion, Circa Vintage is the one.
When Lady Gaga is making midnight trips to check out a vintage store, you know it’s worth a visit. Rellik is the secret weapon of many a Londoner who wants to curate a unique look. The Ladbroke Grove boutique is a chocolate box of vintage jewellery, shoes and all manner of fun and flashy pieces from the ’30s onwards. Despite the high-end design, neither the shop nor its price tags are intimidating. Got something specific in mind? Ask owners Fiona, Claire or Steven, they’ll be happy to help out.
For glitzy, show-stopping gowns, Pennies should be your first port of call. Roaring ’20s beaded flapper dresses abound here, but they specialise in gorgeous vintage wedding dresses. Offbeat brides can score exquisite outfits at a pinch of the usual price tag. Choose from dresses including a 1940s lace prom-style dress, or a dainty 1920s ivory satin dress and jacket co-ord with floral applique, all from around £250. Take that, extortionate wedding costs.
This cute little store in Holdrons Arcade is run by Peckham local Nicole Brierley, and boy does she have good taste. Vintage clothes are lovingly curated in this indie boutique, and her Instagram page offers outfit inspiration if you’re feeling lost. Both menswear and womenswear populate the rails here, with everything from bold paisley print dresses to slick silk shirts and boxy jackets.
With a spread of clothing, shoes and accessories dating from 1900 to the 1980s, it’s easy to dig out some gems at east London's Paper Dress Vintage. Helpfully, the shop offers alterations, and even has an event space hosting comedy, burlesque, club nights, yoga and more. If that wasn't enough, the boutique has a well-stocked bar and a coffee machine to make the bargain hunting even more of a hoot.

Vintage shopping is the best way to elevate your wardrobe with unique pieces, not to mention a more conscious way to consume. Here, British Vogue brings you a guide to the best bargain buys and vintage shops in London.
Founded by Swedish-born entrepreneur Ameli Lindgren, Nordic Poetry ’s Instagrammable pink interiors (designed by Lindgren’s creative partner, Scott Smith) and carefully curated mix of designer pieces makes it one of East London’s hottest spots for vintage picks, with a loyal and ever-growing fan base. Check out its beautifully curated Instagram account for styling inspiration, and if you can’t make it to the store, head to its website to explore  timeless, classic or modern pieces from every decade and major brand.
141 Bethnal Green Road, Shoreditch, E2 7DG
Calling all Almost Famous , Factory Girl and Coyote Ugly lovers: travel back in time with Serotonin Vintage’s eclectic collection of fabulous designer items from Burberry , Fendi , Dior , Moschino and more, and keep an eye on its delightfully nostalgic Instagram feed spotlighting the latest arrivals in the store.
If you’re looking to add to your collection of staple jumpers, embroidered knits, printed tees, denim or bomber jackets, pop over to House of Vintage after your trip to Serotonin Vintage to stock up on wardrobe essentials.
“More is more” seems to be Atika ’s motto, as the shop spans two floors in Brick Lane – the generous space packed with garments ranging from streetwear to designer to recycled pieces. Head here to find bold, colourful items, and if you’re shopping with something specific in mind, you’ll likely be able to find it at Atika in a range of colours, prints and sizes. Check out its Art Attack book and zine fairs, too.
55-59, Hanbury St, Spitalfields, London E1 5JP
Every crevice of this diminutive shop on Golborne Road is packed to the brim with rare, vintage steals. The mannequins are changed frequently given how quick off the mark customers are to get their hands on the latest arrivals. A men’s camel suede waistcoat, a vintage ’50s trench coat and a vintage dirndl-inspired dress are just a few of the gems team Vogue has managed to snag from Emma Goldman Vintage & Costume .
If Austin Powers had his own Aladdin’s cave, it would look something like Rellik . A dazzling riot of colour, Rellik specialises in accessories, footwear and ’70s inspired ensembles. We challenge you to not leave this shop feeling groovy, baby.

here did British Vogue ’s shopping editor Naomi Smart find her fabulous, electric blue, one-of-a-kind metallic dress, you ask? At Karen Vintage Boutique on Notting Hill’s Portobello Road. Lace, ruffles, sparkles, feathers... period, modern, disco, costume. This place has got it all.
293 Portobello Road, London W10 5TD
It’s easy to miss this small, unassuming store on Portobello Road, but it’s one of our favourites, and home to one of the biggest and best vintage collections the city has to offer. It’s tightly packed with one-of-a-kind items, including some that date back as far as the 19th century. One of a Kind has an entire wall dedicated to the many famous faces that have shopped there, Naomi Campbell , Kate Moss and our very own editor-in-chief Edward Enninful among them.
Shop here for vintage and classic English pieces; you’ll find tweed, leather, wax, tail coats and more at 282 Portobello . The focus is on all things elegant and timeless.
282 Portobello Road, London W10 5TE
Tucked away at the end of Portobello Road you’ll find this brightly lit, boutique vintage store selling dreamy high-end pieces.
318 Portobello Road, London, W10 5PS
While Mero Retro offers a wide selection of vintage, it’s particularly noteworthy for its collection of Asian-inspired garments that includes kimonos, printed tees, shirts and accessories – all of which are fair trade and handmade.

You’ll find clothes that span the decades from the ’50s to the ’80s here at The Market Cartel . We recommend dedicating an hour or so to search every rail and crevice in the store – it’s home to hidden gems galore.
Transport yourself to the ’50s and add some rock and roll to your wardrobe with Paper Dress Vintage ’s eclectic collection. The vintage decor (check out the black and white checkered floors) is an added bonus. The boutique, which has an outdoor space, also frequently hosts music events.
Mention Gigi’s Dressing Room to anyone in Walthamstow or the surrounding areas and, chances are, they’ll know the owner. That’s because this is not your average shop. The wonderful Gigi has an encyclopaedic knowledge of her stock, the prescience to know what will fit you at a glance and is a favourite amongst Vogue editors. The majority of stock is available for purchase, but everything is for hire, making it the affordable choice for show-stopping designer party-wear. Plus, Gigi also creates her own jewellery. A visit typically turns into a personal styling session and therapy all rolled into one, meaning most who enter become frequent shoppers – and fast friends.
104A Wood St, Walthamstow, London E17 3HX
The ethos at One Scoop Store is all about sustainability and reducing textile waste. Founder Holly Watkins sources a wonderful range of designer, contemporary brands and eccentric vintage items from markets, car boot sales, and private sellers who donate their pre-loved items.
Pod 20, The Factory, 21-31 Shacklewell Lane, London E8 2DA
Just off the bustling streets of Covent Garden and Seven Dials, you'll find Blackout II – a cosy vintage shop spread over two floors that has been up and running for over 30 years. Blackout II is decorated with period costumes and old designer garb, some of which dates back as far as the 19th century.
Going through a Top Gun meets Grease meets The Matrix meets Fight Club sort of phase? Wow Retro, with its vast leather selection, is guaranteed to have something for you.
Whether you’re shopping for statement, fine or vintage jewellery, Chelsea’s Felt should be on your hit list. The perfect shop in which to browse for yourself or a loved one.
53 Godfrey St, Chelsea, London SW3 3SX
Hailed as the “king of vintage”, William Banks-Blaney’s internationally renowned store is the go-to destination for the ultimate in pre-loved designer fashion. The store has a loyal celebrity following that includes Amal Clooney , Victoria Beckham and Tilda Swinton , to name a few.
