I watched the original adaption directed by Kubrick in 1962 and this second adaption from 1997 for many times just to make a comparison. In terms of the cinematography and editing, I prefer Kubrick's version and I don't see the need to elaborate on that. However, I think it is more meaningful to make a film that actually confuses the audience and makes them question about morality. Kubrick's version serves more as a satire while Lyne makes us sympathize Humbert, and I believe that it is also what makes the book by Nabokov great. I believe that films are not obligated to explicitly teach us what is right and what is wrong. The capability to critical thinking should be required for well-developed moviegoers today. If you dislike the film because you consider it disturbing, I feel bad for you (but don't worry, you'll get there). By the way, the performance by Jeremy Irons and Dominique Swain are marvelous.

Definitely not... According to another Yelper from 9 days ago, they went to the Back Bay location, only to find that the restaurant has permanently closed.

Margaritas by the Boston water? Don't mind if I do! Lolita is such a cute place with a little outdoor seating right by the water. It is perfect for an afterwork drink and snack! Food: chicken nachos - this was pretty good! Chips were crunchy and had the right amount of cheese and chicken. Drinks: I enjoyed the white lie and spicy cucumber margaritas. They definitely do not taste like alcohol Service: Ok Overall, if i'm craving a good vibe and drinks, I'll be visiting this place again!
TDLR: this place has a cancellation fee that they charged me even though i had proof of their system acknowledging my cancellation. Charged $100 for not eating here. This place should be embarassed how they treat their customers. BEWARE: their reservation system will charge you $25 per person if you don't show/don't cancel/or in our case, even if you cancel. My wife and i made a reservation but had to cancel on a saturday night. We cancelled more than 12 hours in advance, and the next day we saw a $100 charge on our credit card. I called and asked, and no matter what i said the owner wouldn't believe me that i had successfully cancelled (it's a text message system - you text back an 'X" and they cancel). For me, i thought it was strange that my word was not good enough for the manager BRUNO, who completely argued against my request to have our $100 refunded. Bruno kept saying things like how do i know you're telling me the truth, or yeah we have charge it because people lie to us and try to get their reservation fee back all the time. So i asked for his email, and sent him a photo of the confirmation text showing that we cancelled, and that their system had acknowledged. He said it was good enough. The next day he emailed me back saying that wasn't the right cancellation and he was still going to charge me the $100. I'm not even going to get into the fact that it's a lot of money to charge someone for NOT dining at their restaurant. I'm not even going to get into the fact that you should just BELIEVE your patrons and give them the benefit of the doubt. This rude and ill-mannered manager clearly enjoys punishing his patrons and collecting the $100 fee. Maybe some of it goes into his pocket. I wonder how many people get charged like this and scammed out of their money. Now i have no choice but to dispute the charge with my credit card, but I just don't believe that a restaurant would treat people like this. It's the ambiance that draws people in because the food is lack luster! The food can NOT be fresh because literally with the exception of the mahi mahi tacos, everything came out in 5 minutes. The star of the show was the corn bread which would have even been better if it were hot or even warm. The 2nd best thing I ate was the grilled pineapple that comes on the rock shrimp tacos. Everything else was giving very basic. The food was mediocre and the wait staff were rude.
I can't say enough good things about this place. We had a table right by the window over looking back bay. The guacamole was some of the best I've ever had. I'm not a tequila shot fan but the sugared orange was AMAZING. If you're in Boston, make sure to visit Jenna and her crew. This is the best Mexican spot in Boston.
Go for the food stay for the atmosphere and drinks. Stopped by for a quick dessert and drink. The churros were perfect, nice and soft, warm served with a chocolate sauce.
Lolita's is a great place for drinks!! The broken heart is a fabulous drink. The cauliflower tacos are good, but a small portion. The fried rice is great!

I've been here three times now and the food never disappoints. Lolita definitely has the best tacos in Boston! When you first sit down, they bring a grapefruit shaved iced for a palette cleanser and you can get it topped with tequila. This is just a fun idea that they do it every time. The most recent time I went was to celebrate my friends birthday, so when we ordered drinks, we also ordered tequila shots. The shots are HUGE and come with a sugar covered orange slice. We got their house tequila which is delicious. It was weird though because we weren't able to get the other drinks that we ordered until we finished the huge shots. Our waitress said Boston law doesn't allow for multiple drinks per person to be on the table at once. I have never heard of this and this has never been an issue in the past. Every time I have been to Lolita, I have to get the queso, guacamole, and the street corn! They're all so delicious and are a must. For this review, I would have given it 5 stars, but our waitress seemed to be very distracted. She never came around to give us plates for the appetizers or silverware and napkins. We had to track her down to get these things. For food, I always get the chicken tacos, which come LOADED with deliciousness. At the end of the meal, they bring out a giant spool of cotton candy with pop rocks on top. It is such a fun concept that they do this, just like the shaved ice at the beginning of the meal! Lolita has such a trendy vibe and great menu, it's definitely a must when visiting Boston.
Horrible place- when I called for a reservation they said you can walk in and don't need a reservation and when you show up at their place driving for 45min they say they are seating only reservations and have no table seating. There are a tons of tables available at 10pm but they don't have servers. The staff and the check in ppl were SO RUDE, not accommodating or not even apologetic for misleading information they provide. HORRIBLE ATTITUDE AND WORSE DEMEANOR, STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. Can go on and on about how they behaved- we had friends and family from west coast visitng us and absolutely the worst experience. So many beautiful places around town. Not even 0.0001 star rating
Whoever said that there isn't any good Latin food in the Northeast, and particularly Boston, has never come across Lolita! Although this establishment is higher end compared to your typical street food fare that you might find in the Southwest, if you're craving some magnificent tacos, delicious drinks or a phenomenal atmosphere, I couldn't recommend a place better than Lolita.
