Anna Yuzhakova takes her laptop computer with her to the restaurant car. She wants to show her international visitor the many charms of Siberian beauties. They are the result, she says, of years of mixed marriages by citizens from different republics of the former Soviet Union.
Anna is a scout. She discovers new talents for the Noah Models agency in St. Petersburg.
She is herself a former model. Four times a year she crosses her native region by train searching for the next top models, the ones who will one day strut the catwalks of Paris or New York.
Her travelling companion, Stephane Hababou, watches the photos of would-be models scroll across the screen. He’s also a scout. He represents the prestigious Marilyn agency in Paris.
It’s his first trip to Siberia. Hababou says it’s the best way for him to find new prospects ahead of his competition.
There’s not a moment to waste. Anna and Stephane stop in every large city of the region, holding a casting call that is open to all.
About 50 teen girls in black undergarments and stiletto heels greet Anna and Stephane at every stop. Some move nervously. Others proudly show off their curves.
The presence of this visitor from Paris ramps up the pressure. Everyone knows Hababou holds the key to a possible career abroad. It’s an opportunity to follow both an American and French dream, a chance to escape the daily drudgery of life in Siberia.
Anna invites Marina Korotkova to step forward. The 17-year-old barely has the time to take two steps before a cutting remark welcomes her into the world of modelling, even if pronounced under the guise of humour. “Marina is a little overweight.” At 93 centimetres, her hips are too wide. The visitors still take a few photos and recommend she go on a diet.
Russia’s largest modelling school is in Novosibirsk. It’s a unique breeding ground for girls who start training as early as age 10 or 12. They learn fashion photography techniques and how to sway their hips on a catwalk.
Fifteen-year-old Kristina Churina, a recent graduate, catches Stephane Hababou’s eye. If she loses a little weight, she could end up in Paris within the year, modeling the creations of top designers.
But few are chosen. Anna selects about 30 young women during each of her Siberian scouting trips. Only a fraction of them will ever end up with real modelling careers.
To be ready to seize the opportunity if presented with it, Kristina has been taking intensive English courses. She also has a plan B. She’s studying tourism and hopes to one day manage a large hotel.

Siberia is known around the world for its frigid temperatures. But in the world of fashion, the region is famous for being home to the most beautiful women in the world.
The measuring tape is king. Minimum height: 172 centimetres (5 feet, 6 inches). Maximum hips: 90 centimetres (35.4 inches).
Casting calls are open to all and attract about 60 hopeful young women every time they are held.

'Mãng xà' (tựa gốc: MAE BIA ) dựa theo truyện ngắn về một câu chuyện liêu trai của cố nhà văn Vanich Charoekit-anant. Phim do ML Bandevanop Devakula đạo diễn. Ông được xem là bậc thầy của thể loại phim tâm lý mặc dù mới chỉ mới quay trở lại với nền điện ảnh Thái vài năm gần đây. Mãng Xà , bộ phim mới nhất của ông được làm từ một truyện ngắn cùng tên vô cùng nổi tiếng của Thái và được chuyển thể thành phim điện ảnh ít nhất 2 lần.
Lối diễn xuất phóng khoáng của diễn viên, trang phục được đầu tư kỹ lưỡng, bối cảnh mê hoặc, cầu kỳ và rất nhiều cảnh nóng là những điểm mà khán giả thường thấy trong những bộ phim của vị đạo diễn này. Và Mãng Xà cũng không phải là một ngoại lệ.
Phim về doanh nhân thành đạt Chanachol trở lại Thái sau nhiều năm sống ở nước ngoài. Vì muốn tìm lại nét những văn hóa truyền thống của người Thái xưa, Chanachol đã đăng ký một tour du lịch văn hóa. Trong chuyến đi này, Chanachol vô tình bị vẻ đẹp đầy quyến rũ và mê hoặc của cô nàng hướng dẫn viên gợi cảm Mekhala 'đốn gục'.
Còn Mekhala, vào thời điểm đó, lại đang có những lời đồn thổi về mối quan hệ không thể giải thích được với một con mãng xà hung ác. Quá si mê Mekhala, Chanachol quyết định bỏ ngoài tai tất cả những nghi vấn để tìm về ngôi làng và ngôi nhà bí ẩn mà Mekhala đang sống. Và ngay từ khi bắt đầu chuyến hành trình liều lĩnh này, Chanachol không hề biết rằng, bất cứ ai từng theo đuổi Mekhala đều nhận một kết cục chung là cái chết.
Mãng Xà tập trung vào nhân vật Mekhala, một phụ nữ hiện đại và thành đạt nhưng lại có một quá khứ bí ẩn và một mối quan hệ rắc rối với người đàn ông đã có vợ - Chanachol. Vị đạo diễn người Thái, nổi tiếng với những bộ phim luôn có cảnh nóng chia sẻ: "Cô ấy có khuôn mặt và làn da của một phụ nữ Thái đặc trưng nhưng song song đó cô lại có một ngoài hình hiện đại và nóng bỏng. Và quan trọng hơn hết cô ấy có một thần thái thu hút luôn gợi được cảm giác tò mò với người đối diện".
Tuy nhiên, việc Aom vào vai Mekhala không đơn thuần vì cô sở hữu vẽ đẹp quyến rũ và thân hình nóng bỏng mà còn vì mong muốn được trải nghiệm, khám phá nội tâm phức tạp và sâu sắc của nhân vật này. Aom cho biết cô đã phải dành vài tháng để chuẩn bị cho vai diễn, luôn cả việc tham gia khoá học diễn xuất làm thế nào để kiểm soát được nội tâm và cảm xúc của nhân vật.
Trailer và poster phim đã phần nào hé lộ những cảnh nóng của Aom. Với cô, "không có bà mẹ nào muốn thấy con mình hóa thân vào những cảnh phim như thế. Nhưng mẹ tôi lại khác, bà tin tưởng và ủng hộ tôi. Bà luôn đứng về phía tôi. Và thực tế, hai mẹ con chúng tôi đã xem trailer cùng nhau".
Aom cho rằng diễn viên sẽ phải dũng cảm, hoá thân vào chính nhân vật mình diễn xuất. Với những cảnh nóng hay những khi phải diễn nude, cô phải nghĩ đó là Mekhala, đó là hành động của cô ấy. Ngoài ra, tôi phải biết ơn đạo diễn ML ML Pundhevanop, ông luôn luôn tạo điều kiện để tôi có thể thoải mái nhất khi diễn. Cả ekip rất chuyên nghiệp và các cảnh quay diễn ra khá nhanh chóng. Đặc biệt, tôi rất thoải mái vì luôn tin tưởng đạo diễn trong việc xử lý và trau chuốt những cảnh nóng khi lên phim, chúng chỉ làm cho bộ phim đẹp hơn mà thôi".
