Amanda Seyfried had a bad experience with Shiloh Fernandez at a dinner party, so Catherine Hardwicke had to persuade the actress to give him a chance.
As this village is small and poor, there is no way all of the villagers would be able to afford to put glass in every window. In the middle ages glass windows were expensive and usually only the rich could afford them. Poor villagers would have normally used dried animal skins scraped very thin to block a window and allow some light into a house.
After the credits a werewolf suddenly appears and lunges at the camera
There is an alternate cut of the film that is twenty six seconds longer.

Has it become increasingly difficult to write an ending? Have writers suddenly forgotten that the climax is the high point of a story? Or is Hollywood getting lazy? Red Riding Hood is probably the most frustrating and unsatisfying movie I've been to, and the above reason is just one of many. While it certainly isn't bad, I haven't finished feeling so let down since Haneke's "The White Ribbon". Of course, Hardwicke is a director who is willing take big risks. She did so with Twilight, which was a huge smash with teens everywhere. And she does have a good eye for a shot, and several scenes here show. If had to recommend the movie for one thing alone, it would be for the visuals. The look of the film has a gorgeous, lush and colourful palette that made this film worth seeing on the big screen. The film's biggest problem aside from being anti-climatic is that the plot is just... a mangled mess. It reads like a really bad fanfiction. If you thought Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland was bad... .wait till you get a load of this movie. We have several plot points that come in and suddenly are left do die, one of which includes Father Solomon played by Gary Oldman, who is made to be a crazy bastard type character, and we don't see anything to prove it. To top it all off, it's rife with clichés, like the obligatory love triangle, the whodunit, damned protagonist. The actors are a mixed bag. Seyfried does a good job here and has plenty of emotion in her performance. She has plenty of cheesy lines but she does a good job for what she has to work with. Gary Oldman was also great, but that was expected as he always shines with every performance. On the downside, Shiloh Fernandez gives one of the worst performances ever here. He spends the whole movie looking like he wants to punch someone and reads his lines like he's reading them off a paper. And Virginia Madsen just awful here as well, and is over-acting Billy Burke In short Red Riding Hood is a film that has plenty of promise, but sadly doesn't live up to it. It isn't a bad film by any means, but you are most likely to leave disappointed.

Ya know what. . . I almost gave this a 3-star rating because it had B-movie qualities. Overall, I love the actors in this movie. Cool mix of actors!! The special effects showed this flicks lower budget (probably the $ was spent on the actors). I liked the plot, I liked all of the characters - super cool mesh of character qualities. I liked the actors. That is what made this movie. This could have been a solid 4 or even a 5-star flick, if there was a tad more $ spent on special effects.

When I read the title, I was ready for this film to suck. But I honestly enjoyed the story despite a decided lack of spookiness or actual scares. The werewolf attacks are mostly telegraphed from a mile away and are filmed with live wolves and not CGI. The realism did make it more effective and there were a couple of scenes when you were expecting an attack and they delay the payoff just long enough to make it worthwhile. The final werewolf boss is CGI but despite the protests from some reviewers, I was not turned off by the fact that it didn't resemble any of the dozens of werewolves I've seen in real life. (Yes, that IS me being sarcastic. Why do you ask ... Lol) What kept this movie as a 4-star review and not a 3-star is the acting. With just a couple of exceptions, it was at worst, solid, and at best, exceptional. As a giant fan of "Star Trek: Generations" in my late fifties, I could have used a lot more Marina Sirtis (Counselor Deanna Troi) in the movie but we'll take what we can get. The climactic battle was a little haphazard and could have been done better and there are some frayed plot strings that just kind of hang out there and make you go, "Wait ... what???" but it's still worth time watching. It's a solid "R" rating and there's enough language, blood and boobies that younger teens probably shouldn't watch. But high school age or above will be fine.

This movie is a 3 at best. I seriously don't understand how anyone could rate this higher. The CG werewolf was horrible. The appearance is good but it seems like the rendering was poor quality. There are tried and true methods to creating realistic CGI but none were used here. In some scenes, towards the end when the wolves are attacking people, you can tell they have an attack suit on. A simple change in camera angles could have hidden that. The last thing that really annoyed me personally was actor Patrick Muldoon. His character is almost unbearable to watch. I was happy with what happened to him, I just wished it happened sooner. I just don't like the way Patrick Muldoon acts. Since we're on the subject of acting, Romeo Miller was pretty bad. Talk about overacting and being overly dramatic. Overall, the movie could have been better but it's still not what I'd consider horrible. I don't regret watching it but wouldn't watch it again.

I tried to not like it, myself. Instead, I found it very good! Maybe my standards have dropped, but I cannot help but recommend.

It wasn't s show stopper and the girl playing little dead riding hood just wasn't believable as the savior, even with her undead powers. The acting and FX were decent and were a plus to the movie. The script got a little hokey at times and unbelievable that people would act that way but hey, it's a horror movie so people have to act stupid. Bottom line...Give it a watch.

This is a werewolf movie that takes its time getting to the part where we’re actually convinced it’s about werewolves and not just wolves in general. For some reason the filmmakers felt the need to be coy about that aspect, confirming it late in the movie. Apparently, they could only afford a couple of morphing sequences so they had to use them sparingly, more or less at the same time. I wasn’t impressed. It is The Asylum after all, and nothing says low-low-low budget like The Asylum. Even so, they managed to attract the likes of Eric Balfour, Marina Sirtis, and two former soap stars Patrick Muldoon and Heather Tom. The plot is a bit bizarre. Grandma (Marina Sirtis) sets her granddaughter up to be killed by a werewolf so she can became the new guardian..........after granny buries her and bleeds over her grave! Besides the iconic red hood, granny gives her a sword and absolutely no tips on what she’s supposed to do, never mind how she is supposed to do it. Poor Sheriff Adam (Balfour) knows something mighty peculiar is going on but he hasn’t a clue. He goes to Officer Victoria (Heather Tom) for her obvious expertise on wolves. There’s gratuitous nudity, vulgar language, and a bit of blood. More of any of that would have helped. Eh, I’ve seen worse. But I’ve seen a whole lot better! It’s entertaining enough, I’m keeping it.

For being considered a B movie it was fairly high caliper. Good effects, decent acting, intrigue, twists.Really could hold its own with what critics consider top of the line movies. We rate everything we watch on 1-10. We gave it an 8. Complaints: The hokey head shot kills of the wolves.
