The Shapiro Center supports trainees, faculty, and staff in all their work as writers. Developed in 2009 with a present from John Shapiro '74 and Shonni Silverberg '76, the center brings together academic, innovative, and public writing. We host events and visitors, run peer-to-peer coach and tutor programs, assist faculty with writing guideline, and collaborate with individuals throughout school to foster a vibrant writing community.

Wesley Anwrit - Divorce Know It AllThis course checks out United States culture and history through the art of writing essays. Students will evaluate popular works by United States authors while simultaneously writing their own essays and concentrating on essay structure, analytical writing, cohesiveness, conciseness, and the mechanics of grammar. The course is developed to prepare international trainees for the expectations their US teachers will have for their academic writing.
As models for their own work, students will study excellent essays from a variety of essay categories by authors such as Martin Luther King Jr., Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and Reginald Rose. The workshop-style format of the class will encourage scholastic exchanges, crucial analysis, and peer modifying. The course is advised for global trainees, students who immigrated to the US after middle school, and students whose dominant language is not English.
