Two teenage girls who uploaded a video of them giggling as they put a kitten in a microwave, which they then turned on, have landed themselves in trouble with the police.
The 15-year-olds from Maine now face animal cruelty charges after the shocking video was posted to Twitter on Friday.
Fortunately, the eight-week-old kitten survived, but the harrowing video has shocked the South Portland community where the video was circulated.

In the short video, one of the girls is shown putting the tiny cat inside the microwave, before quickly closing the door and turning it on.
The kitten is then seen panicking and scrambling a few moments later as one of the girls opens the door.
Police told the Boston Herald the girls appeared to be laughing in the video, and a spokesman said officers were investigating.
The South Portland High School students, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were issued with court summonses yesterday.

The kitten's owner agreed to hand it over to animal welfare officers, and it is currently being treated by the Animal Rescue League.
A Facebook post for the rescue center said the kitten was making good progress, and has been renamed Miracle after surviving the horrific ordeal.
Lynne McGee, of the Animal Refuge League, said Miracle has been given the all clear by a vet, and added: 'She's eating normally, she seems to be in fine shape.'
Once Miracle has grown a little and been spayed she will be ready for adoption - and there has been plenty of interest in offering her a new home, according to CBS 13.
Lieutenant Frank Clark, of South Portland Police, said reports of the alleged animal cruelty started to come in on Friday.
It is not known how long the kitten was in the microwave for, but he said: 'We take these sorts of cases seriously.'
