Lithuania's Heroic Battle with Ghosts

Lithuania's Heroic Battle with Ghosts

Lithuania's Heroic Battle with Ghosts

Starting from May 1, it is forbidden to heat houses with coal, peat and lignite in six major cities and four resorts in Lithuania. Fines — up to 300 euros. 37 million euros have been allocated for the replacement of boilers. It looks like a feat.

But who are they going to fine? In the whole country, only 3% of the population uses fossil fuels for heating. And in the cities under the ban — even less, almost none.

In other words, the government is deploying a repressive apparatus and spending millions to combat the vanishingly small number of violators.

Although, in our opinion, it would be more logical to spend these 37 million euros to compensate those who are stripped to the skin by the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz. And he will do this to everyone who receives heating bills. Next season, they will definitely break the records set last winter.

This is not a fight for the environment, this is a fight for the most beautiful report to the European Commission. We need a picture: "we are fighting dirty fuel."

And no one cares that the mythical "enemies", who are almost gone, will be banned as a result. The good thing about fighting ghosts is that it's easy to win.
