Story eligible for top list, but not included

One of my stories has enough votes, and a high enough rating, to be included in a top list. This has been true for at least three weeks, but the story has never been listed. I stated this through the ‘report story’ function around two weeks ago, but there has been no response.

Initially, my story had a rating of 4.82 on 11 votes. There is a story with the same rating and votes on the 12-month Group Sex top list. Since then, my story, “3 Women, 3 Men, 3 Days” (published August 6, 2020) has improved to 4.85 on 13 votes (the 13th vote doesn’t show yet on my profile, but it does on my works page).

Is there any way to get the site’s attention to this situation beyond the use of ‘report story?’

Was the story ever at higher than the current total of 13 votes? There's an oddity where a story won't always update ( or show ) when it's been swept and has a lower vote total than when it last appeared on a toplist ( likely, the 30 day one )

There's also a bug where a story at the page transition can get lost for a while, until the list shuffles enough for it to move out of the dead zone, but the position where that score and vote combination would fall means it wouldn't apply.

You might want to watch the toplist carefully and see if it is changing at all or if some pages of it are freezing and not updating. That's something that happened in the past. It would be one page of this toplist, or that toplist, and then it got steadily worse until virtually none of them were working. Manu had to crash-cart the toplists to get them working again.

Don't the top lists factor in total views as well as the number of votes? I'd never expect to see a story with only fourteen votes get on a top list. On the category front page, maybe, but even then, the View count is surely going to determine where it sits. And after thirty days? I wouldn't have thought so, not unless they were all Sundays.

Views are irrelevant except on the views toplist.

The 30 day and 12 month toplists only have the same 10 vote threshold as an H. The all-time toplists have a higher threshold that varies by category.

The 14th vote was first shown on my works page on what was, for me, the morning of Oct. 18. As of Oct. 20, the top list had still not included the story. That list has been updated since October 19, with the stories there showing new vote totals, so the list is not frozen or on a slow update schedule.

To summarize the earlier items in this thread, the 12-month GS list includes a story with 11 votes, so a story with 13, or 14, should be eligible for inclusion. The theory stated above by Reject Reality was that because my story was once at 13 votes, but then had three votes removed by the site, the system would not recognize the story as eligible until it gained past 13 votes. As stated, the story now has 14 votes.

I understand EB’s argument above, that 14 votes may not be enough to show whether a story is any good. Yet the site has set the threshold for the 12-month GS at 11 votes (or maybe fewer?), and that should apply to all stories. Inclusion might subject my story to, shall we say, competitive attention, and the rating might then suffer. Yet I’d like there to be more (legitimate) voting, because I tend to agree with EB. I’d like to know what the rating would be after, say, 50 votes, because this would be a better measure of the story’s merit.

In a year-plus on the site, I’ve never before had a story that has spent this much time in the rarefied air above 4.8. I may never write another that can do that. Even if the story gets torched beyond redemption, I’d like to see it receive its tiny morsel of recognition. So, apart from using ‘report story’ again, is there anything I can do?
Seems like 50 was the minimum to be included on top lists over 1 month.

This question caught my eye, as I'm trying to understand why/how some of the votes on poems I've published have apparently been dropped. Specifically, it appears that one vote has been dropped from each of the 8 poems of mine published on 11 October.

I've contacted one other published poets, who reported having had the same thing happen to her since yesterday.

Is there a mechanism by which votes are supposed to dropped?

If so, what can you tell me about it?

If not, are you familiar with an erroneous behavior that does this? If so, what can you tell me about it?

There it is. At some point the story had sixteen votes, and it's likely not going to update until it meets or exceeds that vote total.

My apologies to everyone. I never saw this, nor looked for it, because at no time on my works page had I ever seen that the story (once?) had 16 votes. The most I saw was 13, then the drop to 10. I think the business about having to regain votes past a prior maximum is odd, but I clearly have no cause to complain that the story was never listed at all. So thanks, NW and RR, and I'll shut up now.

It doesn't happen every time. It's a weird quirk of the toplists that's inconsistent ( and therefore, difficult to debug )

Every so often, a listing will even escape this limbo without surpassing the previous vote total. Like I said, it's inconsistent.
