I do miss my pirates, but Black Sails had some of the same problems as Game of Thrones. The second-last season was some of the best television I’ve ever seen. The final episode of that season is rated 9.7 at IMDb. But the final season seemed to consist entirely of undeveloped characterization and an accelerated plot, as if they were rushing to compress four years of the story into one and decided to present the entire season in bullet points like a Power Point presentation.

I thought Game of Thrones was running out of source material since the seasons surpassed George R.R. Martin’s books. So although they knew who was intended to rule, they didn’t have the same depth that they had in previous seasons.
Kinda like how The Matrix: Reloaded and Revolutions turned out. They ran out of source material and had to make up stuff on their own. And that turned out rather questionable. Gotta wonder if they really did rip that story off of someone else.
I’m not sure what the situation was with Black Sails (low viewership?), but what happened with Game of Thrones makes no sense. I think it’s fairly obvious that the showrunners were tired of doing the show, and I can’t really blame them because it sounds like a shit ton of work. So let them go off and do other things after season 6 and hire new showrunners! It’s not like D&D were a super-talented, hard-to-replace duo or anything. HBO could have kept their crown jewel running for at least 3-4 more seasons instead of the 1.5 that we got. And ideally it would have been wrapped up much better and not left everybody so disappointed.
