A fan favorite, Kelly opened up about what she's been up to since the show and whether a return could happen.
Lisa Kelly is one of Ice Road Truckers' only female drivers. With this came a lot of extra attention. Appearing between seasons 3 and 11, the trucker has been on the show since 2009. Notably, throughout season 6, the star was absent. The constant coverage of their everyday life and work overwhelmed the trucker. This brief break allowed the star to find the ground again before returning in the following season.
Ice Road Truckers shows the struggles that long-distance truckers, go through as they cross the perilous frozen lakes and passes in North America. The opposite to most motor shows, which focus on sports and classic cars. On occasion, the stakes get incredibly high, with trucks opening up cracks in the ice or heading over the edge of the road and down a cliff. The rest of the show is a more mundane and intimate affair. The camera is in each of the trucker's cabins.
Using a fly on the wall set up, the producers piece together a view into the lonely life of these workers. The show's final season aired in 2017 and since then those truckers featured have disappeared into some obscurity.
When driving for the show, Kelly was a part of Carlisle and operated primarily in Alaska. Speaking with Overdrive in May 2021 Kelly revealed that she now works for another logistics supplier but still drowns North from the Alaskan City Kenai to Prudhoe Bay. This journey is a 1,500-mile and 32-hour long trip, providing that there are no delays. Ice Truckers do these drives on their own. Usually, with large semis, the drivers will stop and sleep in the cabins of their trucks on these work trips. Some choose to have partners that drive with them and others do not. The truckers provide a vital service to the massive oil and gas industries that support the Alaskan economy.
Unlike many reality TV shows the cast didn't have a grand falling out , the large distance between the truckers probably enabled this a little more. Kelly claims to talk to Todd Dewey a logger. As well as running into Jack Jesse and Phil Kromm when working the road. The latter two both still work for Carlisle.
Kelly remarked that the snow was staying longer than usual. In Alaska, driving the ice roads is all but impossible over the winter. These long winters running into April are impacting how much work Kelly can take. However, the trucker thinks “they're constantly making improvements" to the conditions of the road. Some sections now have tarmac and paving, meaning that these roads are mildly less dangerous than before. Kelly mentions that in spring these roads get harder to drive on with a "bumpy" nature.
Kelly currently drives a Freightliner Coronado, saying that she's good at “blowing them up.” The manufacturer has renamed the Coronado the 122SD, meaning Severe Duty such as Ice Roads. The truck shares the same engine as the Cascadia, but with less bodywork to scrape on uneven terrain, it is ready for the harshest environments. It's unknown what engine is in Kelly's truck. The 112SD has options up to a 600-horsepower and 2,050-lb-ft of torque engine.
In the show, Kelly drove a range of different trucks but is frequently pictured driving Kenworths. Kenworth's trucks like the W900 are some of the most popular Class 8 trucks for those driving the ice roads. As a result, the vehicles took starring roles in the Liam Neeson Netflix movie, The Ice Road . In the film, the actor drives a red one.
Kelly is open to making a return to the media. She describes the show as being on a hiatus instead of canceled, but it's likely the pandemic scuppered any hopes for a return. Although had the show continued, a series covering the pandemic would surely have been fascinating. The global supply chain has nearly fallen apart and jobs have seemed insecure in all sectors. A season covering the ups and downs of this along with the jeopardy of the ice would have rated highly among fans. As you are all probably aware, Ice Road Truckers traces the lives of drivers in enormous trucks as they put their experience and skills to the test on the rough, icy roads of Alaska and other areas with brutal weather conditions . Their determination to arrive at their destination safely and on time is admirable.
In an industry that is dominated by males and one in which only six percent is made up of females, Lisa Kelly seemed like an unconventional trucker. Despite her successes with hauling huge loads, many people still doubted Lisa Kelly’s abilities behind the wheel because she was a part of a very intense arena full of improbabilities.

Lisa Kelly was born on the 8th of December 1980 in the Grand Rapids area of Michigan. However, at the tender age of 6 years old, she moved over to Sterling, Alaska with her family. Both of Lisa’s parents were professionals in the medical field, and while her parents wanted Lisa to follow in their footsteps, Lisa had other ideas. From a very young age, Lisa knew she wasn’t going to have a career in the medical industry.
She had shown a huge interest in driving and, in particular, huge trucks. Becoming a truck driver appealed to Lisa, as it looked captivating and intriguing. Although Lisa was aware of the path she wanted to walk down, which was, of course, trucking, it didn’t stop her from taking art lessons and learning how to play the piano.
Worlds apart from her art and piano playing skills, as a youngster, Lisa held the title of state champion in freestyle motor cross. During this period of Lisa’s life, she had several driving jobs, from pizza delivery to driving school buses, in which the income was used to pay for truck driver training. Lisa also had a brief stint at college but dropped out after receiving her commercial truck license in her early 20s.
She secured a job at Carlisle Transportation in Alaska after receiving her commercial truck license. After obtaining her first trucking job, Lisa began by driving vans and, in time, gained enough experience to drive the big trucks, which she practiced every time she had the opportunity. Not long after Lisa began working for Carlisle Transportation, she achieved her dream.
Driving huge trucks and hauling big loads on the notorious Dalton Highway. This dangerous job fitted Lisa’s personality perfectly, as she was known to be an adrenaline junkie! Among her many hobbies were hand gliding, skydiving, and snowboarding, as well as motocross racing. Lisa even had a once-in-a-lifetime experience when she flew with the US Navy Blue Angels display team in a fighter jet.
A few years later, another huge opportunity would come knocking on Lisa’s door. The History Channel reality TV show, Ice Road Truckers, was looking for a female trucker. Lisa’s application passed with flying colors, and she was cast in season 3 of the show. From season 3 up until season 5, Lisa was the only female trucker until she was joined by Maya Seiber in season 5, although Maya only stayed for one series.

With the couple now living in Wasilla, Alaska, they have no children yet, although they are the proud parents of 3 horses as well as several cats and dogs.

Celebrities’ death rumors are more usual than is expected and considering how dangerous is Lisa Kelly’s job, it’s not surprising that a huge number of web searches of her name include variations of the word “dead”.
However, the rumors of her death are actually the result of a confusion, as people mistook the former reality TV star with a British woman of the same name whose mysterious death was reported by a variety of papers in her country.
Considering both women are from different countries, it’s difficult to understand why people confounded them. Regardless of that, it’s worth noting that the former “Ice Road Truckers” star Lisa Kelly is fortunately alive and still actively working.
It’s still unclear why History Channel decided to put an end to “Ice Road Truckers” in 2017. Throughout the decade it was on air, the show’s rating was quite stable, starting with 8.3 audience points in its first season and ending with 8.6 by the last one.
As it’s obvious that the series didn’t have low-rating problems, it’s suspected that putting an end to the show was an executive decision.
This fan theory took force when the veteran trucker Alex Deborgoski posted on his Facebook fanpage about his unconformity with the production of “Ice Road Truckers”. In his words, the production team allegedly hadn’t contacted him or any of his fellow truckers for several months at that point, leading him to conclude that the show was ‘in the dust bin of history’.
Later in August 2019 during an interview at the Great American Trucking Show, Lisa Kelly showed herself very open to appear in another season for the show. However, she also admitted that despite being in contact with History channel, an agreement hadn’t been made with the network just yet.
While a new season of “Ice Road Truckers” is an unlikely possibility, it’s worth noting that the show clearly had a good impact on the perception the general public had of truckers and brought some light into what such a dangerous but valuable job entails.
Lisa Kelly was born in Michigan, but her home for the longest time has been Alaska, where her family moved to when she was only six years old.
Regardless of the fact her family had to buy groceries in another town, Lisa’s early life growing up in a farm of Sterling was simple and tranquil.
