If the newlyweds-to-be are all set with kitchenware and bath towels, skip the traditional bridal shower for a gathering of "intimates" instead.
For a lingerie shower—aka lingerie party—guests are explicitly asked to gift the bride with sexy or sweet undergarments, slinky robes, massage oils or other romantic accessories. The lingerie party allows the bride to be pampered with beautiful pieces for her wedding night, honeymoon and after, while guests in attendance will actually enjoy watching gifts get opened.
This can be a more laid back affair than a traditional shower, and it only works if the bride is game for the idea—and if her guests wouldn't turn their noses up at or be embarrassed by a party with a sexy theme.
When planning festivities focused on unmentionables, location is key. "Hosting the lingerie shower in an environment that allows the bride—and her guests—to feel 100 percent comfortable to show off the pieces and make some noise is the most fun," says Ashley Kelsch, founder and CEO of Austin, Texas, based lingerie store Teddies for Bettys .
That may mean hosting the party in the bride's or a friend's home, but maybe not at her future mother-in-law's. Another venue option is to bring the party to the intimates. "At Teddies for Bettys, we host private lingerie parties where the girls pick out lingerie for the bride to try on while everyone sips on bubbly," Kelsch says. "It's not uncommon for the bride to do a little show and tell and get the opinions of her friends. (Cue the 1-10 cards!) After she's picked out the winning sets, the party comes together to splurge on the bride."
What's a lingerie bachelorette party without a few games? These icebreakers are a great way to introduce your various friend circles to one another while sharing some laughs.
Pass out index cards and pens and pencils. Encourage each participant to jot down two true experiences and one that's false. Go around the circle and read each card one at a time. The group will then guess which of the statements is a lie. Bonus points if you tailor this classic party game to your lingerie bridal shower theme by sharing stories about your love lives!
This game transforms the classic party game Musical Chairs into something a bit racier. Place a piece of lingerie in several layers of wrapping paper and pass the gift around a circle of participants while music plays. When the music comes to a stop, the person holding the gift must unwrap a layer. Whoever is last to unwrap must don the lingerie (over her clothes, of course) and model for everyone. It's a surefire way to get your guests giggling.
Secretly jot down everything the bride says as she opens up her gifts. Don't tell her you're doing this. Trust us, the responses will be much better without looping her in. Once all the presents have been opened, read off the list as a silly preview of what the bride will be saying on her wedding night. The more ridiculous the phrases, the better.
No lingerie bachelorette party would be complete without tasty snacks and drinks to enjoy. Depending on your overall theme, you may want to serve light appetizers, a few desserts or a full course meal. When it comes to planning the ultimate lingerie shower, the sky's the limit. Here are a few ideas to spark your creativity:
Harken back to the good old days with a buffet of the bride's favorite junk foods. Pop some popcorn, order pizza and toast with champagne.
For a more elevated menu, serve up a variety of small plates. A charcuterie board is a chic, easy way to feed a crowd all night long.
If the bride has a sweet tooth, consider offering a wine and chocolate pairing for guests. Wine flights and a variety of chocolate treats are sure to keep your lingerie bridal shower guests happy.
Fondue parties never go out of style. After all, who doesn't love gooey carbs? Start with a cheese course and graduate to chocolate fondue for dessert.
A couple's bedroom is a lot like Vegas—what happens there, stays there—making it difficult for guests to know the right gifts to give. As the event hostess, it's up to you to help set the tone and provide guests with the info they need.
Consider taking a trip with the bride to a lingerie store in advance of the party. "When a bride goes into a specialty store and takes a few minutes to get fitted and put together a wish list, it relieves the [guests] of all stress," Kelsh says.
While you're browsing with her, note if she's more into classic underthings or items that are a bit steamier. This will help you pass on shopping tips, along with her sizes, to guests.
To save the bride from having to return gifts or a drawer full of lingerie she'll never wear, Kelsch comes to the rescue with easy-to-follow shopping advice. "If [a guest is] unsure, buying an everyday lacy bra and panty set never fails," she says. "For the budget friendly purchase, one size fits all thongs or a massage stone and candle are great. Again, something we all need and want!"

Thinking of throwing a lingerie shower for the bride-to-be? There are many things to consider, and a lot of it depends on the bride’s personality. Here are our tips on how to throw a classy lingerie shower that won’t embarrass the bride and keeps things tasteful.

A lingerie shower is different from a traditional bridal shower. Rather than guests bringing traditional gifts for the home, guests shower the bride with gifts like lingerie and robes to celebrate the couple’s wedding night, honeymoon and beyond. Lingerie showers are usually more casual and suited for a laid-back bride who doesn’t embarrass too easily. This is also a great bridal shower theme idea for a bride who already has many items for her home and doesn’t “need” traditional bridal shower gifts.
First, set the tone for the bridal shower by sending out a tasteful and classy bridal shower invitation. The overall look, feel and wording will indicate to your guests that this is meant to be a tasteful lingerie shower and not a raunchy lingerie and sex toy party (more on that, later).
Go for invitations that show elegant underwear and lingerie and clearly indicate it is a lingerie shower for the bride-to-be. We have several lingerie shower invitations in our Etsy shop that we think will perfectly suit what you’re looking for.
To help indicate that this is meant to be a classy lingerie shower, you want to carefully consider your wording. We suggest even indicating that racier items should be left for another occasion, like the bachelorette party, in the text somewhere if you have space.
Some of the following poems are perfect wording for a lingerie shower invitation:
Something sexy lingerie shower poem Something sexy, something sweet Something to knock (groom’s name) off his feet
Ooh la la lingerie shower poem Nighties, robes and a satin bra, Let’s shower (bride’s name) with lingerie to make (groom’s name) say, “Ooh la la.”
Sugar and spice lingerie poem A little sugar and a little spice, Something naughty and something nice.
Decorating for a lingerie shower is fun and easy! Decor can be kept elegant and simple like it is for other occasions. Use things like bride-to-be banners , foil balloons and streamers to dress up the space (you could even match them to the couple’s wedding colours).
You could also purchase some cute panties and hang them up on some string against a wall to tie-in the lingerie theme. Added bonus: the bride can keep the underwear you use as a decoration.
Check out our printable lingerie shower signs in our Etsy shop for more easy lingerie shower decor ideas.
Drop your panties or guess the panties game If you’re looking to do something a little different for a lingerie shower game, we love the idea of doing a “drop your panties” or “guess the panties” game and having guests bring an unwrapped pair of panties that best reflects the guest’s personality (make sure they buy the underwear in the bride’s size, though). Here’s how to play:
Bra pong Just like the traditional drinking game, but the female edition! Make up your own DIY bra pong board with bras and see which guest can get the most ping pong balls in the {bra} cups!
Lingerie bingo Using one of our lingerie bingo cards , have each guest take a card and p
