When he wasn’t sliding into home plate, he was sliding into her DMs.
Mets star shortstop Francisco Lindor — who wed Katia Reguero in December after a one-year engagement — first touched base with his bride through social media.
“I messaged her on Instagram. Her picture popped up and I was like, ‘This girl is beautiful!’” the 28-year-old Lindor — known as Mr. Smile — said with his signature grin during an exclusive interview with The Post at his locker in the Mets clubhouse ahead of his April 30th bobble gnome day at Citi Field.
“We talked for three months and then I met her in Arizona ‘cause I was out there for spring training,” he added. “We just hung out and I was like, ‘I think she’s the One.’ At first, I was a little bit like, ‘Ahh, I don’t want to really commit,’ but I knew that she was the One.”
Reguero, 28, a fellow Puerto Rican native, balances her new husband’s athletic side with music. She’s an experienced violinist , Lindor said.
“She doesn’t do it like she was back in the day when she was doing four to five hours a day … we have the baby now, but she still does two hours whenever she gets the time,” he said.
And if their 1-year-old daughter, Kalina wants to follow in her dad’s cleated footsteps, Lindor is all for it.
“If she wants to play softball, I’ll be right there. I’d give her my advice, but somebody else would probably teach her,” he said.
The family recently moved to Manhattan, after Lindor inked a $341 million dollar, 10-year deal with the Mets in 2021.
When asked the best and worst aspects of living in New York, Lindor — who named Rincon Criollo in Corona as one of his favorite restaurants in the Big Apple — said, “The best is the convenience to everything, at all times you can get something to eat.”
“The worst part of living in New York is if you get stuck in traffic, you in traffic for a while.”
The bobble gnome will be given to the first 25,000 fans at Citi Field when the Mets take on the Phillies.
“They showed it to me. Somehow, someway they still managed to make me look like me,” he said.
“It’s always cool whenever you get a bobblehead. It’s a piece of art that the fans are taking home … and my family will get a kick out of it,” he added.
He already knows where his will sit — in a sentimental location in his mother’s Florida home.
“My mom has a memorabilia room in her house. That’s where everything usually goes, whether it be trophies, bobbleheads, pictures,” he said.
Besides being immortalized in resin, there is another way Lindor wants to be remembered.
“As a winner. I just want to win,” he said.

The last thing Niki Taylor remembers from the wee hours of April 29, 2001, is lying down in a patch of grass and feeling sick to her stomach. She had been riding back to Atlanta after an evening out dancing when her friend Chad Renegar, who was driving, reached down to answer his cell phone and lost control of the car, which skidded off the road and slammed into a telephone pole. Taylor, who had recently curtailed her globe-trotting modeling career to spend more time with her seven-year-old twin sons, staggered out of the wreckage, then curled up in a fetal position to wait for an ambulance. (Renegar suffered only minor injuries in the accident, which police say involved neither drugs nor alcohol.)
In an instant Taylor, now 27, went from being one of the world's most visible women--she was featured in our Swimsuit Issue in 1997 and '98 and had appeared on more than 250 magazine covers in her career--to fighting for her life. Her famous face and willowy 5'11" frame were relatively unscathed by the accident, but the internal injuries, including a severed liver and a collapsed lung, that resulted from her wearing only her shoulder strap without her lap belt were massive. She lost consciousness in the ambulance and bled so profusely that doctors had to give her transfusions on the day after the accident equal to 10 times the volume of blood in her body.
When she finally regained consciousness, an intensive-care nurse at Atlanta's Grady Memorial Hospital asked Taylor if she knew how long she'd been there. "I said four or five days," Taylor says. "She told me, 'Try a month and a half.'"
Taylor's recovery has involved more than 40 operations. All told, she spent nearly 12 weeks in the hospital and at an Atlanta rehab facility before returning to her Fort Lauderdale home to continue physical therapy. "After lying there for so long, I had to learn to move my arms and walk again," she says. "I had to learn to be a human being again."
She's still bothered by back pain, a result of scoliosis and vertebrae damage, but nine months after the accident she's nearly back. Taylor is well enough to care for her sons, Jake and Hunter, on her own again (she and their father divorced in 1996), and she has returned to a modified work schedule, posing recently for spreads in British Glamour, Redbook and Cosmopolitan. But the active life she used to enjoy is, for now, a thing of the past. "I can't run after my kids or go ice skating or Rollerblading with them," she says. "I'm basically just buying time right now until I can do those things again. I got a second chance at living, and I'm grateful." --Stephen Cannella
HER RECOVERY FROM THE ACCIDENT has been arduous, INVOLVING MORE THAN 40 OPERATIONS.
