🔳 Linda Marrinon (born in 1959) is a Melbourne-based artist.

Linda Marrinon was born in 1959 in Melbourne, Victoria. She lives and works in Melbourne. The artist gained recognition in the 1980s. Her works are characterized by wit, irony, mocking criticism, and a "deconstructive" approach to art history. The pieces are created using graphic and painting materials, often with a logo-centric focus.

Sorry! / 1982 / Synthetic polymer paint on canvas / 59.5 x 87.5 x 4.5cm

In her later works, however, Linda begins to explore the idea of "beautifulness" and the simple necessity of art. By 2006, her primary medium becomes terracotta and plaster sculpture.

Bather in the Snow / 2006 / tinted plaster / 60 x 30 x 30 cm

Linda's sculptures, or "sculpties," are not just small; the artist intentionally strips them of any monumental quality, transforming her figures into touching types, or more broadly, archetypes that lack distinctive characteristics but represent a generalized image of the era, evoking memories or reflections on how that image was formed.

Golden woman / 2018 / Painted plaster / 72 x 21 x 16 cm

Her works bring to mind Northern painting - Netherlandish still lifes, idealistic landscapes, and charming female characters, or may be just one singular character.

The Moir Sisters / 1974, 2016 / Tinted plaster, distemper, watercolour, hessian / 3 parts: each 89 x 25 x 20cm approx

Over time, Linda Marrinon moves away from postmodern sarcasm and speaks to us in a new language about simple and timeless ideas and visual images. It is this essence, rather than the form, that makes her sculpture indeed monumental.
