Lily From AT&T Won't Show Her Full Body In Commercials Anymore. Here's Why

By Stephanie Kaloi / Updated: Aug. 5, 2021 11:12 am EDT
The actors and actresses who star in commercials have a funny way of making you feel like they're almost family, especially when the same person sticks with a brand for months or even years. For example, many of us who grew up in the 1990s and 2000s are fond of Paul Marcarelli, the actor who starred as the "Test Man," who asked, "Can you hear me now?" in Verizon commercials from 2002 to 2011 before defecting to Sprint in 2016 (via CNN ).
Another familiar face from commercials these days is Lily, who is affectionately known as " The AT&T Girl ." Lily is played by Milana Vayntrub, who also directs the commercials she stars in. In addition to her role as Lily from the AT&T commercials , Vayntrub has a long list of acting credits that include roles on " This Is Us ", "House of Lies", "Californication", and "Silicon Valley", and also starred in her own sci-fi comedy series called "Other Space" (via IMDb ).
Vayntrub picked up the role as Lily back in 2013 (via NBC News ). While she's been a familiar face for millions of families across the United States and the globe since then, it turns out that this fame has come at a hefty emotional price.
Milana Vayntrub recently opened up in a major way about a sudden change that viewers will probably pick up on the next time they see her: Lily will no longer show her whole body. Many people were quick to note that most of Vayntrub's body is hidden behind a counter in AT&T's newest commercial, as opposed to previous commercials in which her entire body was visible throughout the commercial, and they wanted to know why. She opted to address the questions head-on via Twitter.
Yahoo! Life shares that on March 20, 2021, Vayntrub tweeted, "Been getting a lot of 'Why are they placing her body like that in those ads?' Well, I direct the ads. I place myself like that. And it's because of the thousands of unwelcome comments I receive about my body. You've lost the privilege of looking at it until I feel safe again."
Unfortunately, it seems that her explanation only spurred more harassment. Other people on Twitter came to Vayntrub's defense, with one sarcastically noting, "Really impressive how many dudes think they should respond to this by commenting on her body."
Harassment has been part of Vayntrub's experience in Hollywood throughout her career, but August 2020 was a particularly brutal time. People searched through older ads of Vayntrub's and began leaving numerous degrading messages on official AT&T accounts. The company attempted to stanch the flood of comments by responding at first, leaving their own responses that "sexual harassment of employees in the workplace or [their] social channels" is not allowed and telling those who left especially uncomfortable and inappropriate comments that "overshares aren't welcome" (via Insider ).
The company even issued their own statement in Vayntrub's defense, noting that they had to resort to shutting down comments completely on many of the videos that feature Lily. "We have disabled or deleted these comments on our social content that includes Lily, and we will continue to fight to support her and our values, which appreciate and respect all women" (via PR Week ).
Even worse, this is hardly the first time Milana Vayntrub has faced a barrage of harassment and sexist commentary about her body. Vayntrub ended up taking to Instagram to livestream about her experiences.
Uproxx reported that she shared that the comments she endures make her feel as if she's being sexually assaulted. "Maybe it just has to do with being a person on the internet, or maybe it's specific to being a woman on the internet. But all of these comments ... it hurts my feelings. I'm hurting and it's bringing up, like, a lot of feelings of sexual assault. I am just like, you know, walking my dog and getting messages from people who have distorted my pictures to get likes on their accounts."
Fans of Vayntrub's took to social media to share their own reactions to the numerous comments that have been made about her figure. One person, identified as Lu, told Insider that many of the faceless commenters were hiding behind their screens. "The kind of things you'd see on AT&T's post is at such a direct contrast with the behaviors of people you'd talk to on a daily basis."
Fortunately, other entertainers and celebrities have come out in support of Milana Vayntrub. Paul Feig, who is a frequent co-star and collaborator of Melissa McCarthy 's, issued a vehement statement via Twitter back in August 2020.
"What is happening to @MintMilana on social media is an absolute disgrace. To all harassers, trolls, immature guys who hide behind a wall of anonymity to do and say things you'd never do or say in public and anyone who thinks this s*** is 'funny,' it is vile and harmful. #enough" (via PR Week).
It also appears that Vayntrub's decision to stay seated behind a desk is here to stay, as AT&T's March 17 commercial features her in the same position. Hopefully, social media platforms will come up with a system that protects people from this kind of daily harassment, because as The Atlantic reports, there's often little a person in Vayntrub's position can do in terms of recourse.

The Young and the Restless spoilers tease that Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) could be facing a big surprise soon. As Y&R viewers know, Lily and Billy recently took their relationship to the next level and made love.
Y&R spoilers for the next two weeks, December 14 to December 25, say that despite Billy having some pretty intense legal problems right now, it looks like the romance will continue for the couple throughout the holiday season.
During the week of December 14-18, Billy will land himself right back in jail after he violates the terms of his bond by trying to intimidate the prosecution’s star witness – Alyssa Montalvo (Maria DiDomenico).
That will give Billy some time to think, and he’ll probably be intensely thankful to Lily for her wholehearted belief in his innocence. And when Billy gets out of jail again, it looks like he’ll spend some more quality time with Lily over the holidays.
Well, we can’t help but wonder about the possibility of a Lily pregnancy here. Not only would it likely come as a big shock to Lily and Billy, but it would come at a time when Billy is facing some very serious charges.
Since someone has obviously gone to great lengths to frame Billy for the attempted murder of Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) and the shooting of Chance Chancellor (Justin Gaston), it’s going to take some real legwork to clear Billy’s name.
Right now, Lily seems to be spearheading the effort to find out what really happened and why the evidence has lined up so neatly against Billy. If Lily finds out that she’s pregnant, that’s going to throw a whole new feeling of urgency into the mix.
Lily will surely want to make sure that her child isn’t born with his or her father behind bars, so that will really up the game.
In fact, Lily might become the only person other than Amanda Sinclair (MIshael Morgan) who truly believes in Billy.
Once the case goes to trial and all the evidence against Billy gets poured into the press, even Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) might not think that Billy’s Mr. Innocent anymore.
And if Lily is all Billy has left, AND she’s pregnant, then we suspect that Lily will really be on a mission to save her man.
After all, Lily won’t want her baby to grow up without his or her father around. It was hard enough on Lily when she was in prison and away from the twins, and she won’t want father and child to be separated, either.
Something tells us that a pregnant Lily would be Billy’s fiercest advocate going forward, given that they’d have something tying them together forever.
And an unexpected pregnancy could have a big impact on Billy as well. He’d probably be shocked by the news but very happy, and the situation might give him the extra boost he needs to fight off the charges against him and work with Lily to clear his name.
We’ll see what happens here, but a pregnancy for Lily would certainly be a big development for herself and Billy! Do you think we’ll see a Billy & Lily baby in 2021?
Stay tuned to the CBS soap and don’t forget to check CDL regularly for the latest Young and the Restless spoilers, updates, and news.

Lily from the AT&T commercials has long been a family favorite across the nation. Sadly, it seems the actress behind the character hasn’t always had the easiest time away from the cameras.

It takes a certain something to make a character in a commercial that goes down as an instant favorite. Sure, many companies have millions to invest in advertising, but it doesn’t always pay off. Thankfully, AT&T had nothing to worry about when they introduced Lily Adams to the world.
The character is brought to life by none other than actress Milana Vayntrub, and we have seen her help just about every kind of family in need throughout the years. Plus, the addition of Lily saw AT&T sales skyrocket. The likes of LeBron James, Gordon Ramsay, and Mark Cuban have all appeared in AT&T commercials throughout the years as Lily sets to work finding them the best deal on the market.
Creating Lily Adams wasn’t a stroke of luck – it was a genius marketing plan that was thought out and crafted by none other than Hank Perlman. He is also the person behind Hungry Man Productions, a production company that has been voted as one of the top-five commercial companies across the globe. That’s quite the reputation and one of the reasons that Lily was such an instant hit.
Hank hoped the character would be multidimensional and was in for a treat when he saw how well Milana Vaybtrub brought her to life. Apparently, Hank wanted someone “strong, smart, and human” with a dash of comedy to see the 30-second commercials make an impact. Thousands of people certainly agree that Hank achieved everything he wanted.
There’s no denying that viewers have certainly taken to Lily and the woman behind her. Unfortunately, it’s not necessarily her strength or intelligence that’s made her stand out so much. Some people seem to be more fixated on Vayntrub’s appearance – most notably her chest – than anything else.
When AT&T uploaded a video of Lily in August 2020, the post attracted a ton of comments objectifying her body. This interest helped the company to rack up 1.6 million views, but not all for the right reasons. Understandably, not everyone who was commenting on the video was making unsavory remarks about Milana. However, there were enough people saying lewd things about the actress to turn this situation into quite the controversy.
Inappropriate remarks like the ones being aimed at Vayntrub are nothing new on the internet. Ever since social media became popular, such comments have gradually grown in number. Nowadays, it’s hard for anyone in the public eye – particularly a woman – to put something out there without receiving objectifying remarks in return.
Fortunately, despite these comments being so prevalent, AT&T didn’t just ignore them. The company actively responded to some of the ones that stood out, stating that they don’t support harassment. Eventually, when they realized there were too many to deal with, they switched the comments off so that people couldn’t say anything rude or supportive. It seemed the only solution to them, given how out of control the situation was becoming.
Milana probably would have loved to live in ignorance about the way people were objectifying her in the comments section. Unfortunately, the controversy was so significant that it was impossible for her to avoid. When things got out of hand, she decided to go live on social media and address the situation.
She told viewers that “it hurts my feelings” seeing everything that people were writing about her. Milana said that she didn’t consent to what users were saying and likened the experience to assault. Unfortunately, the message didn’t seem to have an impact on some people, as Vayntrub continued to receive inappropriate remarks during her live stream. Some suggested she just needed to get thicker skin instead of blaming the people causing her so much trouble.
When you’re in the public eye, you probably expect to receive some level of objectification by others. That shouldn’t be the case, but the problem is prevalent enough that it’s become part of the celebrity package. However, what Milana was dealing with was more than most stars have to put up with.
She later told Insider that she was surprised by the situation and just how out of control things got. Vayntrub never expected the controversy to become so significant, especially as it all stemmed from a commercial. She was also stunned by the level of support she received, although this was more of a pleasant surprise. Given how long Milana has spent trying to forge a successful career, suddenly having a passionate fan base was refreshing.
Working as Lily Adams in the AT&T commercials has skyrocketed actress Milana Vayntrub to new levels of fame. After all, the multi-billion dollar company invests a lot of money into its commercials and has a huge reputation.
