Liga MX Femenil Makes History with Record-Breaking Attendance in Clásico Nacional

Mexico City, May 13, 2025 – In a landmark moment for women’s football in Mexico, Liga MX Femenil shattered attendance records as Club América and Chivas Femenil faced off in a thrilling Clásico Nacional at the iconic Estadio Azteca.

A staggering 65,000 fans packed the stadium, marking the highest attendance ever for a women’s club match in Mexican history. The previous record, set in 2023 when Tigres UANL hosted América, was surpassed by over 10,000 spectators, signaling the rapid growth of the women’s game in the country.

The match itself lived up to the hype, with Chivas Femenil pulling off a dramatic 2-1 victory over América. Striker Alicia Cervantes scored the winning goal in the 88th minute, sending the traveling Guadalajara supporters into a frenzy. América’s Kiana Palacios had earlier equalized after Chivas took an early lead, but Cervantes’ late heroics secured three crucial points in the Clausura 2025 playoff race.

'This is a historic day for Mexican women’s football,' said Liga MX Femenil president Mariana Gutiérrez. 'The passion of the fans proves that the women’s game is no longer just the future—it’s the present.'

The league, founded in 2017, has seen exponential growth in recent years, with increased investment, higher TV ratings, and rising star power. Players like Scarlett Camberos (América), Diana García (Tigres), and Nicole Pérez (Rayadas) have become household names, inspiring a new generation of young girls across Mexico.

With the 2025 Women’s World Cup on the horizon, Liga MX Femenil continues to be a key development ground for Mexico’s national team. The record-breaking Clásico has set a new benchmark, and fans are already anticipating even bigger crowds in the upcoming Liguilla (playoffs).
