I'm so glad that Prime got Lexx, cuz it's probably in my top five favorite sci fi shows of all time. It has the creativity of Farscape, but the perversity of.. uh, hmm. There's really nothing like it. Everyone in the series is kinda over the top gross, perverted, evil, etc. Well, it's made in Germany, so there's more than a little sexual sadism and general perversity. Another reviewer noted the influence of Nietzsche, and I agree completely. Take the character Xev. She has this super sexy body with lips so big she can barely talk (the second Zev). And her libido is cranked to an 11. But we never forget how she spent her childhood living in a box and how she was turned into a sex slave because she didn't 'perform her wifely duties'. To paraphrase The Birth Of Tragedy, the value of art is that it's removed from reality- but it can't be so far removed that it loses sight of the world's savage cruelty. That's kinda the universe of Lexx in a nutshell-- there's this horrifying, miserable, cold and dark reality. But it's largely populated by horny idiots! Really, the only moral person in the two universes is Kai-- and he's dead! I love the limited appeal of Lexx. Only a minority of sci fi fans will appreciate what Lexx is trying to do and I love that. The first two seasons are the best imo. The third changes direction, but it's still worth seeing. The fourth was an abomination and all digital and hard copies of it should be incinerated.

To be sure, Lexx is not for everyone. If you enjoy "holier-than-thou" visions of the future like Star Trek: TNG or Babylon 5, then it is not for you. But for those who "get it," the blend of humor and epic on display in Lexx could not be more perfect. I have seen just about every SF TV show ever, at least in passing, and in my opinion, nothing has ever matched this show in terms of originality. Every season has a different flavor, but it always works. The "weird" costume and set design perfectly reflect the fact that these people and places have no basis in the human experience. Most other shows don't even try to achieve that true "alien" quality but prefer to just stick with established tropes of traditional SF. The effects are not million-dollar quality, but that's not a fair expectation, and if you value effects over storytelling and originality of concept, then you're done here anyway. If, like me, you would rather see a flawed execution of an original idea than highly polished repetition (for instance, Dark Matter), then Lexx may be for you. It's great that the complete series is available on Prime. Lest you worry that you'll be left hanging, fear not: Lexx ended Season 4 with perfect closure.

Absolutely one of my favorite scifi shows! This show is not for everyone but if you are a true scifi fan then you will appreciate the uniqueness of this show as its one of the more creative efforts. Its a strange blend of tongue in cheek scifi to actually taking itself seriously. It also manages to infuse real scifi, soft porn, a nihilistic philosophical view of the universe with low-grade comedy. The show plays with notions such as Nietzsche's 'eternal return', reincarnation, heaven and hell. They have Higgs Boson discovery blowing up the world, there are songs, myths and a Spock-like character who cheekily enough has no feelings, reasons objectively about everything because he's dead. The first season is aesthetically influenced by films such as Dune but the universe is much darker, so dark you're glad you're going to miss it. The universe is chaotic, indifferent, meaningless, cold, cruel and violent. Human beings for the most part are inhumane, selfish, stupid, concerned mostly with both power and sex and even if they live a thousand years they don't change, they barely ever learn from their mistakes. The show is smart to those who are smart and stupid to the stupid.

An oldie, but worth a look. Back when Buffy and Babylon5, even Farscape or SG1 where struggling sci-fi fantasy, LEXX popped up. Weird, cheesy, silly, even gross at times. I rather like that the staff pushed the envelope back then (1990's). True, it has to grow on you...if ever. Then again I am trying to understand Dr. Who these days. It just depends what you grew up on. Remember Battlestar Galactica? the original - then try watching it 20 years later. Or Buck Rogers...meh. Cheers everyone!

Originally entitled: Tales From A Parallel Universe, Lexx was a Canadian and German co-production, that follows the adventures of a bumbling every-man, an undead assassin, a love slave, a robot head, and the sentient, planet-destroying spaceship they all live upon. It was the first nearly 100% green-screen and CGI produced TV and film production, and enjoys a cult following all over the world. Originally aired in the U.S. on Showtime, it eventually made its way to the Sci-Fi Channel which produced its 3rd and 4th final season. Lexx employed a rogues-gallery of competent characters including well-known actors: Malcom McDowell, Rutger Hauer, Peter Guinness, Barry Bostwick, Tim Curry, and Nigel Bennett. Part Dark Star, Alien, Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, and Star Wars, Lexx is truly in a class of its own, seamlessly mixing hard science fiction and dystopia with sex and parody.

Hysterically cringe-worthy, dated, lurid, and often just damn weird. The core of the story is intriguing, and the bizarre keeps you titillated enough to come back for more. Forgot how much I loved this show. This is Not sanitized sci-fi, it's messy and awful and wonderful as well. Surprised how good the music is, I didn't notice back when i first watched it

There must be more than inside jokes, humor, and satire to warrant a whole series, just as a great Sat Night Live sketch does not a great feature film make. I get it and I enjoyed it, for about half the first episode. I kept trying to watch it, or skipped ahead, but I wasn't captured by it at all. The effects are bad (intentionally, I think, but it gets old) and there is no there there. Sadly, for I am a huge sci-fi fan, but this type must have something of substance underneath.

I stopped ten minutes into the first episode to right this review. This is a sci-fi version of Andy Warhol's movie 'Bad'. I love it more for what it isn't than what it is. While the story itself rather cliche', the rest is so hilariously cheesy that I know I'll enjoy it immensely.

After four thousand years of cryo-sleep, the Lexx crew awakens to find their non-functioning ship caught in the orbit of a binary planet system. The crew is soon drawn into the never-ending war between the two planets.
A city on the planet Water has been destroyed by balloons by planet Fire. May, the lone survivor, is brought to the Lexx where Stan soon falls in love with her. Deathly ill, Prince offers to cure her and a fateful deal is struck.
In search of food, Kai arrives in Gametown, a floating city inhabited by aerobics enthusiasts who play basketball all day. When Stan fails to keep up his half of a bargain with Prince, Kai is stranded in the city.
Kai escapes with Bunny to Boomtown, a place where everyone has uncomplicated sex all day long. Stanley finds everything he's always wanted, but the utopia of Boomtown is destroyed when the city is attacked by Duke and Fifi.
With their moth damaged in the battle with Duke's forces, Stanley, Kai and Xev are stranded together with the living Kai and Bunny on the deserts of Fire. They find an abandoned balloon, but it does not have enough fuel to carry them all to the nearest town until Kai volunteers to go the rest of the journey on foot.
Xev and Stan find their way into the towering city they landed on, but discover the inhabitants aren't exactly the friendliest or sanest around when they get help from a disturbingly familiar figure after Kai malfunctions.
A disabled Kai is brought before "The Commission," for an adjudication. Xev and Stan follow Prince through underground tunnels that lead from one city to another, hoping to find Kai.
Back on the Lexx, Stanley decides blowing up Fire and having the ship eat the debris would be the easiest way to get it up and running again. He orders the crew to fire the next time they are pointed towards the planet.
The Lexx crew considers settling on Water, doubting that the dark universe holds anything better.
The Lexx crew is attacked by balloons under the command of Prince. The slow-motion ballet of destruction ends with Xev being stranded on the burning desert surface of Fire while Stan and Kai escape to the orbiting Lexx.
Stan and Kai search for Xev and find her footsteps crossing the inhospitable surface of the planet Fire. Her tracks lead to Girltown. Queen develops a strong interest in Stan, but his needs and hers turn out to be very different.
Stan is stranded and is washed up on a metaphysical beach, where he is met by Prince to face his judgement day.
Kai and Xev fly to Prince's headquarters to try to bring back Stan. Kai descends into the core of Fire while 790 persuades Xev that the only way to recover Kai is to destroy the planets, which unleashes unforeseen consequences.

When I first watched it (yrs ago) I asked myself why the heck I was watching it. I had watched it a few years back, and then this year watched it again. Just as awesome as the first time. I fell in love with the characters & their relationships with one another on the Lexx. Even Lexx himself is pretty awesome. For me it was different which is refreshing. Yes Its a little naughty, last time I checked geeky went with naughty. No it doesn't use any fancy filming/animation, but who cares, it'll get you wrapped in it if you give it a chance. Its a shame it didn't continue...I would of certainly watched it, & this is coming from a person who isn't into these kinds of shows to begin with. Anyways, I miss this show. Give it chance.

I'm watching the finale to season 3 right now. I watched the whole series when I was in grad school years ago. A lot of people have written negative reviews because Lexx is tacky and over trivializes sex. However, it's some amazing scifi for it's time! I'm under the impression the show ran into serious budget cuts, so they wrote plot elements into the characters to deal with that. It is truly a unique series, and well written.

It doesn't take itself too seriously. If you can get past all the obvious innuendo, there is a solid storyline. The films were good. Season two has its hits and misses. Season Three is rather long and confusing but watchable. Season 4 is....well there are only a few episodes in Season 4 that are watchable. The final episode can be a bit of a tear jerker and the music was excellent.

Weird and over overtly sexual or not, I LOVE this show. I watched it growing up and was immediately addicted to it's unique quirk. I recommend that anyone watch this show and just enjoy it for what it is. I've watched it time and time again and I am still overly involved in the story line and characters. You must experience this in your life.

As many have said, it's not for everyone. The first season is a very low budget production. You can tell that the production budget picks up in season 2-3 and 4. This is not a Shakespearean Drama, and the acting is rather humorous. I enjoyed it.

Lexx is a gem in the rough..it's the perfect melding of late 90's European sci-fi (Metal Hurlant comes to mind), satire and dark humor that often borders on brooding cynicism. While the first season might be kind of tough to enjoy due to his lengthy movie format, the subsequent seasons adapt to storytelling for television. Episodes typically resolve by the time they are finished and while there's a few rehashed plots or themes here and there, it's still a very fun series to get in to. It's a show that's often dismissed due to being oversaturated with sexual innuendo, but that's part of its distinct charm. It's always taking opportunities to prod away at human nature and it does a fantastic job. Some story arcs I liked a lot more than others, and I will admit that by the third season it felt a bit aimless and bloated. It has its flaws and might have stumbled due to budgetary constraints, but it was easy to grow attached to the main characters. They're a bit polarized but representative of the our greatest strengths and weaknesses as people..often charming, sometimes redundant and annoying but always entertaining. In a rare instance, I was actually really sad to see this series conclude. Ironically, it ends on a satisfyingly optimistic note and made me wish for a continuation or televised reunion.. Unforuntately, Lexx was pretty much forgotten the moment it stopped airing and lives on as a cult favorite amongst those with a good sense of humor and an appreciation for the absurd. One of my favorite sci-fi shows!
