I have recently bought a 3 bedroom apartment in Leukerbad and which is just about to be finished. When i was in Switzerland last i went to a furniture store and spec'd the bare essentials. The total came to a staggering USD 22K! I was expecting to spend another 5 or the other bits like stereos and tv's etc. I currently live and work in Shanghai and so i investigated the possibility of buying the furniture in China and exporting it to Switzerland. I have just ordered the entire lot and it has come to approximately USD 8K! All the furniture is custom ordered and can be made from most types of wood, even endangered species dare i say it. Does anybody want any furniture or anything non electrical and of course no contraband! I can vouch for the quality of this furniture as well as the workmanship! I can send pictures of furniture already made if required. I have also just paid RMB for a 2 piece leather sofa italian standard. This is about USD! Will send pictures if required. And if anyone wants some of that fresh China air, then it is also for sale! You never know, there maybe someone here with a fetish! Cheers Will. Organizing it my self i am closer to ! They came twice, once to pick the air shipment, and again a few days later for the sea shipment. For the air shipment, I had pointed to one box which was the most important, then they began packing other essentials I ofcourse, put more stuff in, then, when it was time for them to go, they say, oh, its over the limit, so can you remove a few boxes!!! And they had already left the most important box out.. I was furious, also because the attitude of their supervisor was macho man-meets God's gift to the removal industry. He was rude to me, my husband and had the nerve to tell my maid off for giving him orange juice instead of the coke he wanted. Then , he packed the LCD tv no cushioning for the screen opposite a suitcase As they were packing , I wanted to get the paperwork sorted, but he just walks off, saying I will do it later. Later that day, they accompanied hubby to the furniture factory where they were to pick up a few tables Needless to say, we told Crown, that if this supervisor turns up again, he will not be allowed entry to our home. AS for the sea shipment, I don't know what kind of an estimator it was he was non-chinese, by the way who got the idea wrong by 7cbm!! After they packed everything and I had to help them stack some things because they were packing non-breakables so loosely and wasting space , they said this is over your limit, so pay more I mean, it wasn't our money, but that doesn't mean it should be wasted. After that, they failed to load our container onto a vessel for ages, which resulted in our shipment being delayed for weeks due to their fault Crown in Swiss was great though, and even provided us temporary basic furniture because of the delay on their part Let me know how it went for you! Safe trip over! Makes sense huh? And as for global warming My next post is going to be about religion! So i guess there are no takers on rain forest wardrobe? No gripes with them as yet other than the price! Since this has always been on the company i never really paid too much attention up until now. Also want to get some antique Chinese charis, cabinets etc. Any reccommendations you have would be welcomed. One day you will understand why you pay 22k here as opposed to 8k in China. You can probably buy for 8 k what you need in Ikea or similar, however you cannot expect the quality to be the same as if you spent 22k. Your furniture will split, warp and deform as the humidity and temperatures are different here If you want a Mercedes, buy one, don't think by buying a Fiat Panda you are getting same build quality. I have a couple of antique s Chinese camphor wood chests and since I moved here from Hong Kong they have developed several rather annoying cracks, one of the chests is pretty much beyond repair. They clearly miss Hong Kong's humidity a lot more than I do. My point being, this can happen to quality furniture as well, not just cheap modern-day copies. Much of it depends on your choice of wood.
