Well this movie had a story behind it and not just some action scenes. I did find it a bit boring at times, but it is worth watching.

This is the first Kung Fu film I ever saw with Donnie Yen in it - when I had first watched it, I was really quite amazed at the choreography and the more serious plot. I've since become a huge Donnie Yen fan & have seen most of his films - going back to re-watch this Donnie Yen film, I will say it is one of his top films. Are there contrived aspects to the story - at times yes; but they can be easily overlooked (e.g., his partner that is a lightning rod for all sorts of injuries). But they serve a purpose - they put emotion behind the scenes where Donnie Yen takes the spotlight. And Donnie Yen himself really pulled off a pretty good acting performance, making his character really come to life (e.g., compared to the similar character he played in Special ID that I thought was a bit cheesy). The action scenes with Donnie Yen throughout the film are really well done, but the final action sequence is most exceptional. The scenes that develop his character are nicely done - particularly one scene reminiscent of Man on Fire with Denzel in how attempts to gain leverage over the protagonist elicit a really special type of bad-assery (for lack of a better term). So if you are new to Donnie Yen or you've seen several of his films, this film will validate (further) Donnie Yen's rapid ascent the last few years into the American film industry - e.g., XXX: Return; Star Wars: Rogue One, etc. I think we'll get to see even more incredible Donnie Yen action films in the next few years; his potential could send him higher than many of the Martial Arts stars that broke into Hollywood over the last 20 years.

Flash Point is another police action movie starring Donnie Yen who is after three brothers, Collin Chou, Xing Yu and Ray Lui. The film has an interesting start because it’s about Yen being an abusive cop. That’s supposed to make him a rebel which is reinforced when he goes before a review board and has an attitude. Those two attributes will come out more and more as the movie progresses. Yen is good at these roles and he doesn’t disappoint here. In terms of fighting Yen doesn’t use his usual Kung Fu style but a lot of Mixed Martial Arts with things like knee blows and leg locks. Chou gets the worst of that at the end.

First off this is a solid 4 1/2 star film. I love the groundwork in this film Donnie yen put in. He's known for his martial arts but it's awesome to see him put in some ufc style moves in there. He just elevates his ksills and acting to another level. He' s a great actor too. Cool, collected, i'm sure the girl think he's handsome and in shape too. I gave this film a 4 because I found the storyline lacking a little with no clear reason why the bad guys were indeed the enemy. They kind of just put us right in the middle of story and we are supposed to understand the good guys from the bad. I like it when a movie goes into detail about why the good guys are good and how the bad guys became what they are. I want to see the movie develop from intro >beginning> middle>end>conclusion. THis film felt like it went straight to the beginning or middle and forgot to build the storyline first. That is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. Other than that it's a real bad a$$ film and if you love martial arts films this is a must see too! Thanks Godbless. ~shauns movie review

I liked this one and I'm glad I have it in my video library. I had only become aware of Donnie Yen with Ip Man, and I REALLY liked Ip Man. (So did my wife. And she isn't normally a martial arts movie fan.) I've got to agree with the reviewer from Quebec who stated in essence that the plot was typical cop stuff. But I felt the flow made the movie entertaining and Yen's MMA fighting in the movie compel me to rate it high. Not only were the fight scenes very well done and fun to watch, but the stunt work was good as well. You can tell there were some sore players at the end of filming this movie.

I wanted to ask Kearns to do a cross-examination of himself after the Ford atty asked him about his memories. If Kearns had fought for himself then he would have easily shown that the state of his mind on the bus had in fact occurred bc of the lies and paper burials trhown at him. I assume the jury took this under consideration. Right up there with Erin Brockovich and the movie Philadelphia. This a more subtle movie with subtle actors but the theme is always the same, the David and Goliath story. I wanted Kearns to cross-examine himself after that bus business. A great David & Golith story tho this fil is far more boring and kisch as times. An even larger mulinational corp Exxon could not stop spilling oil from is Valdez, destroyed thousands of miles of California shoreline, birds, otters. sea life, seahills and more, a huge ecosytem. This guy spent years fighting the Ford Motor Company who stole his invention of intermittent windshield wipers! His wife left him due to his incessant, rightful, and courageous need to do the right thing! His wife appeared to be a nice woman, but could not endure the stress of his "do the right thing" nature! He had the bravery, tenacity, and endurance to stand up and fight for what is right. He would not settle, even for millions of dollars offered to him to drop the case. He ended up having to defend himself, and did a fantastic job playing a lawyer! This is a true story with a happy ending of what it means to do the right thing! He wanted to take this all the way to trial even if it meant having to defend himself. Even if it meant losing his wife. He wanted his children to understand the meaning of doing the right thing. Doing the right thing not only helps the person who is doing the right thing, but it also helps the community at large. People like this are usually humanitarians that understand the highest good for all humanity! Unless people stand up to these large Corporations, the Corporations will continue to crap all over the people. Money is their God! They only pretend to care about people, but the bottom line is...MONEY IS THEIR GOD! I absolutely loved this movie!

As other reviewers have given synopsis's I won't. Greg Kinnear turns in another wonderful performance, IMHO, he's really underrated. Leads a good entertaining movie, good enough to watch again sometime, with a mostly feel good ending. I say mostly, because I was irked by his faithless, wife, who didn't stand by him when she was most needed. She made me angry. Those of us few spouses who have made it to 45 or 50 years of marriage know that there have been times, sometimes years, dealing with something of a negative nature from our other half, but that's what you sign up for when you say your vows. (Of course not abuse or infidelity.) But some character flaw that over time can drive you crazy. What the ones who bail never get to, is that working it out makes your bond stronger, and when you come up against things you know won't change, you just gotta laugh! Yep! Can't do a thing with 'em! On top of which, she modeled marital failure for 6 kids. That's just freaking great. So thanks for listening to my rant about what I think was the only flaw in this story. Unfortunately seen all too often.

I did really enjoy the movie but thought Dr Kearns was wrong to pursue the lawsuit. So what if he never got validation of his "life's work"? I would think his life's work would be his family. He knew, God knew, and his family knew that he created the intermittent wipers. That should have been enough. Several people criticized his wife for leaving. I don't. When anything takes over your life over and above your family, you don't deserve your family. I'm glad he won the lawsuit but it wasn't worth the cost in my opinion.

this dramatization of a real legal struggle of a small inventor against the entire auto industry is riveting in a number of ways. the devastation wrought to his family by this obsession (which needed to be an obsession to succeed), the nervous breakdown to his own health, and the total dedication he needed to learn all the legal precedent he would need. it is in fact inspiring that anyone can beat such a powerful lobby. we get to watch his little kids morph into young adults as the proceedings continue. kinnear does an admirable job in this role, conveying the nuance needed, and the supporting cast is good as well. will likely leave you thinking afterwards, and even googling to learn more about the true events.

I just watched this movie, the first time in many years, and thoroughly enjoyed it, tears in my eyes during most of the movie. The first disc was scratched because the disc was not secured at the hub. The return to Amazon was easy, just using their little square code, and the replacement came faster than I expected. The second one was secured with no damage. I'm an inventor and would recommend this movie to anyone who fashions him or herself an inventor or creator. I'm so happy that this older movie is still available. Wish it were in Blu-ray format (like similar story-type "Joy" about Joy Mangano), but that's OK. The movie was about the story, not the resolution of the disc.
