Let It Be... Naked is an alternative mix of the Beatles' 1970 album Let It Be, released on 17 November 2003 by Apple Records. The project was initiated by Paul McCartney, who felt that the original album's producer, Phil Spector, did not capture the group's intended stripped-down aesthetic. Naked consists largely of newly mixed versions of the Let It Be tracks while omitting the excerpts of incidental studio chatter and most of Spector's embellishments. It also omits two tracks from the 1970 release – "Dig It" and "Maggie Mae" – replacing them with "Don't Let Me Down", which was the non-album B-side of the "Get Back" single.

The album was issued with a silver cover, featuring monochrome images of The Beatles. The photograph of Harrison originally used on Let It Be was swapped for one featuring him in performance. Although the album sold well, and topped the charts in Chile and Mexico, fan reactions were mixed.

How did the Let It Be movie come about?
The project came about following a chance meeting between Paul McCartney and the Let It Be film director Michael Lindsay-Hogg. They discussed the lack of availability of the film on VHS and DVD, and spoke about the possibility of remixing the soundtrack to accompany such a release.

As usual, George Martin would be the supervising producer but - as he recalls - he had been instructed by John that ‘none of your production rubbish!' was needed.

When The Beatles first set out to make Let It Be in 1969, they intended to record an album that would be a return to live performance. No studio effects or overdubbing of voices or instruments would be allowed - just the bare necessities of the band.
Let It Be… Naked is the stripped-down, return-to-live-takes album that The Beatles originally aimed to create, free of vocal and instrumental overdubs or added effects.
Let It Be evolved from an original plan to make a television show featuring the group playing tracks from the recent ‘White Album.’ That idea changed in three ways. First, abandoning the easier path, they opted to learn a completely new batch of songs for the televised concert. A second innovative approach was added when it was decided to film the rehearsals; allowing viewers to trace the development of each song from its first rough run through to the final polished version. Thirdly, as the climax of the project was a return to live performance, no studio effects or overdubbing of voices and instruments would be allowed at any time.
As usual, George Martin would be the supervising producer but - as he recalls - he had been instructed by John that ‘none of your production rubbish!' was needed. However, amidst the turmoil of the band’s breakup, the album was re-produced by Phil Spector before its 1970 release and it did not represent the raw and unadorned set The Beatles had in mind.
It is the Twickenham Film Studios sessions that have characterised the whole Let It Be project as an unhappy one both in the minds of The Beatles themselves and anyone who saw the documentary footage in the movie. The film sound rolls recorded at Apple (after their decision to move back to their studio there) disclose how much the atmosphere of the sessions had improved. Munching toast together, all four chat enthusiastically about playing live in the studio. ‘I’m just so high when I get in at night’ John tells the others. ‘Yeah, it’s great, isn’t it?’ George responds.
Original film sound rolls now provide an invaluable historical record of these days in the life of The Beatles and they do contain some candid discussions about the future of the group. Throughout the tapes Paul doggedly insists that only by working hard together can the group survive. He is also determined that they should break away from their insular recording career and appear before the public again. The other Beatles’ enthusiasm for the planned concert ebbs and flows. But there are also happy moments in evidence as the group return to their roots - playing not only rock ‘n’ roll favourites but also unreleased early Lennon-McCartney compositions such as “Because I Know You Love Me So.”
"In spite of all things, The Beatles could really play music together."
 JOHN LENNON
"The music always surpassed any bullshit we were going through; once the count-in happened we turned back into those brothers and musicians."

I love this than what Phil Spector did in the Let It Be album
This wasn't the worst of times. They just didn't like the studio and being filmed for hundreds of hours. Considering all that the music is pretty damn good.
This is the version McCartney would have liked issued in 1970. His ballad, "The Long and Winding Road" features just The Beatles (& Billy Preston) and no overdubbed strings. I'm so glad they issued this. It's The Beatles produced by The Beatles, and it's great.
When are you going to release this film in DVD???. With extra footage, of course...
I know I'm in the minority opinion, but while I find this version of the album enjoyable, I actually prefer the original release. I agree with John Lennon that Phil Spector actually did a good job at tidying up and somewhat unifying the material. However, I do wish that "Don't Let Me Down" had been included on the original album. Now it's time to officially re-release the film on DVD. What are they waiting for ? It's a great documentary that shows that no matter how much a great band argues amongst themselves, they can still play terrific music if that's what united them in the first place.
What a shame this project was the great fallout between members of the group. This is how the album should have arrived in the first place.
I like Dig a Pony, Two of Us, and the katys song.
The Long & Winding Road really shines on this version of the album. As much as I enjoy the different mixes, I miss Maggie Mae, Dig It, and the banter.
i mean let it be is a great song but the best is goodnight i mean it wasn`t so rated but i you are sleepy you can put it and sleep but it is a great song a great song
I like this album The Long and Winding Road and Don't Let Me Down versions are supreme, but my question is when Apple and EMI will launch the Let It Be DVD? Come on!!!
It doesn't beat "1" when this album was realesed
I agree with all the above, proves that they could still do a fine job even in the worst of times.
Fab 4's most soulful album. This naked-ness reveals that this historical musical group can rock really well. This version of For You Blue make my butt jumping all the time. Thee harmonized voices of Don't Let Me Down is so heart-felt. And Let It Be. Paul might be bossy around this era but this prayer song's sincerity is second to none. Let It Be...Naked is the definitive version of the collection.
The documentary film "Let It Be" gives an unparalleled insight into the Beatles getting back to basics at Twickenham and at their own recording studios in Savile Row. It spans two weeks of recording of what was to be their final album, Let It Be.
