First Latina Supermodel Patricia Velasquez Comes Out as a Lesbian

Patricia Velasquez, widely considered the first Latina supermodel for her having appeared in several high-profile fashion campaigns in the 1990s, has come out as gay, the Huffington Post reports.
Writing in her new book, Straight Walk , which goes on sale Feb. 10, Velasquez, 43, says she was moved to be honest about her sexuality in discussions with her daughter Maya, 8.
“It’s very difficult to face your past, so I put off doing anything like this for a long time,” Velasquez, whose large and small screen credits include The Mummy and 2012’s Celebrity Apprentice , told Yahoo! Parenting about her “torturous” secret that she kept hidden while she was doing ads for Victoria’s Secret, Ralph Lauren and Chanel.
“But as my daughter started growing up and I was teaching her to be honest and proud, I knew it was time for me to set an example – and that meant facing my truth. For me, living life with truth and honesty is the one thing I want to make sure she understands,” she says.
In her book, as excerpted in the New York Post , Velasquez talks candidly about her affair with comedian Sandra Bernhard , whom she went on to date exclusively after much soul-searching about her sexual identity.
“I was deeply in love with Sandra in a way I’d never experienced before,” Velasquez wrote, noting Bernhard was the first woman she’d ever kissed after previous relationships with men.
In deciding to come out, Velasquez, who says her family has been supportive, noted prejudice in the Latin community over homosexuality and her hope to spur more honest discussions, according to the Post .
“I want to at least start a dialogue,” Velasquez writes in her book. “The tide is changing.”

Remember that time Ashley Graham told us that while she wasn't afraid to pose nude, she wouldn't show "nip and bush" ? Seems like our former SI Swimsuit cover model has changed her stance on being photographed naked, and we definitely don't mind.
In an extremely revealing shoot for V Magazine , Ashley poses completely nude and opens up even more about her struggles with body image and how she learned to love herself early on in life.
"I think I hit bottom around 18," Ashley told Tracee Ellis Ross for V Magazine . "I was disgusted with myself and told my mom I was coming home [from New York]. And she told me, 'No, you’re not, because you told me that [modeling] was what you wanted and I know you’re supposed to do this. It doesn’t matter what you think about your body, because your body is supposed to change somebody’s life.' To this day that sticks with me because I’m here today and I feel that it’s okay to have cellulite."
The body advocate, and "new queen" of the fashion industry went on to reveal that she has two role models, one of which is a member of our own SI Swimsuit family.
"Today, I have two role models," Ashley explained. "One of them is my mom. Just seeing how happy she has been going through [life] and how she’s handled every curve ball is like, 'That’s a woman who has integrity and dignity and has been kind and generous to people around her.' Business-wise, it’s Kathy Ireland . She’s OG. When she was younger and in Sports Illustrated she was like, 'I’m going to sell some socks and make a business.' Now she has a billion-dollar company. Kathy Ireland, if you’re out there, I’m still trying to be your best friend. You’re on my vision board."

"My whole body—my mind, my spirit—needed this desperately."
LeAnn Rimes posed nude for Glamour to raise awareness about psoriasis , and penned an essay for the magazine about her experience living and performing with the chronic skin disorder . "You know when you say something you’ve been holding in for so long, and it’s such a sigh of relief? That's what these photos are to me," LeAnn captioned the photos on Instagram. "I needed this. My whole body—my mind, my spirit—needed this desperately. With today being World Psoriasis Day, I thought this would be the perfect time to share my story."
The country music star also opened up about having psoriasis as a child. "I was only two years old when I was diagnosed with psoriasis. By the time I was six, about 80% of my body was covered in painful red spots—everything but my hands, feet, and face," LeAnn wrote. "These weren’t the days when there were commercials about psoriasis on TV or open discussions about skin conditions. No one was talking about this. And certainly not when I signed my first record deal at 11." She tried steroid creams and other medications, but nothing seemed to work. So she would wear jeans and long-sleeved clothing onstage during heat waves to cover her flare-ups.
In her twenties, LeAnn found a treatment to control the skin condition, and went 16 years without a flare-up. Until 2020. " All hell broke loose in the world—and inside of me, as I’m sure it did for so many other people amid this pandemic," she wrote. "Stress is a common trigger for psoriasis, and with so much uncertainty happening, my flare-ups came right back."
Hours after her essay went live, LeAnn took to Instagram Stories to address her fans. "Hey everyone I just wanted to come on here and say thank you so much for the overwhelming outpouring of love. It has been quite an activating day," she said. "To sit in all of this and to allow myself to be seen so deeply, I know there's so many out there who relate to this, and relate to me, and I relate to you and everything you're going through."
"That was my main reason for wanting to share so vulnerably, because I know so many people are struggling and do struggle with psoriasis amongst many, many other things, she said. "I wanted to share in our humanness. So just know that you are loved and you are worthy as I tell myself to same thing over and over again."

Decades before she was sporting designer dresses on the stage of the Republican National Convention as Mrs Trump, Melania Knauss posed nude in a photo spread for a now-defunct French men’s magazine, The New York Post has learned.
The Slovenian-born model — then aged 25 and known by her professional moniker Melania K — did the steamy photo session in Manhattan in 1995, according to Alé de Basseville , the French photographer who shot the sexy snaps.
The images, some rarely seen and others never published, were obtained exclusively by The New York Post.
The bombshell photos show Melania wearing nothing but high heels and pouting for the camera, in a series of images shot from the front, the back and the side.
“Melania was super-great and a fantastic personality and she was very kind with me,” de Basseville said, adding the former model never once felt uncomfortable posing for the nude pictures.
Melania’s sexy photo spread appeared in the January 1996 issue of Max , a French men’s magazine that went out of business in 2006.
“I was quite surprised when I saw the pictures because it was ... a racier shoot than I expected,” said a fashion-industry insider who was present for one of the photo sessions.
“But Melania seemed very comfortable with the whole thing, and she was very professional.”
For de Basseville, the inspiration for the pictures was the Renaissance and a celebration of the female body.
“I think it is important to show the beauty and the freedom of the woman, and I am very proud of these pictures because they celebrate Melania’s beauty,” he said.
At the time of the shoot, Melania had just recently arrived in New York City from modelling stints in Paris and Milan, Italy.
In Gotham she was booked for mostly commercial work and was later featured in an ad for Camel cigarettes, the source said.
When asked about the photos, Trump told The New York Post : “Melania was one of the most successful models and she did many photo shoots, including for covers and major magazines. This was a picture taken for a European magazine prior to my knowing Melania. In Europe, pictures like this are very fashionable and common.”
In 1998, Melania was introduced to Trump during a New York Fashion Week party at the Kit Kat club hosted by Paolo Zampolli, who was then representing Melania through his company ID Model Management.
The two wed in 2005 in a ceremony at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida.
