" The child is in me still, And sometimes not so still.” Mr. Rodgers
In introducing, Leo the Lionhearted, we see Leo having a discussion with himself in the mirror. In his thoughts he compares himself to others and is making self-derogatory judgments and he is does not live up to his comparisons. He sees in the mirror the image his has of himself and begins his self-talk in a sad, self-defacing and lonely place. Don’t we all do this at times? We tend to gauge our successes and failures in similar ways. This is just an example of learned ideas or self-taught concepts that program our experiences.
Since we arrived here, in our life, we have had to learn who, what, when, where and to whom we belong. What tribe, or family, what culture, beliefs, educational systems, spiritual understandings, or really, all the worldly ideas on which our experience was and continues to be built. The beauty of it is, it is left up to us to determine what it all means to us personally and how it fits or applies to our present moment experience. It is apparent we are much more creative and powerful than we are aware of.
We have had teachers along the way to encourage, educate and direct us in our learning. It was and is still is the programming we employ to define both ourselves and our world. The teachers may have changed somewhat as in, TV, radio, internet,  and even face book to name a few, but the fact remains, we are influenced, daily, in our development of the experiences we have in this world. How we think, learn and apply these ideas and concepts directly impact living our lives.  In simple form, we are the programmers of a self-developed app, called, Me.
Are the teachers to blame for these less than ideal outcomes in our so-called life? No, they just happen to be our unique instructors with the lessons plans they have shared with us, to the best of their ability. We are only now becoming aware of the fact that “the best of our teachers’ ability” was just that. The best they were aware of at that time. Ability changes with the speed of light and we are fast becoming cognizant of the fact our own current understanding of life and our own ideals and learned concepts are always changing and outdated. No, we can no longer blame our teachers but are needing to become more responsible in the upgrading and review process of our own self-understanding .
How we might ask can we do that? In becoming more attentive to our minds’ thoughts we can begin to recognize that feelings are directly connected to the learned ideas and concepts we have learned. In reaction to that idea, we have accepted the experience and its interpretation as being the absolute truth. We then can than take responsibility for the experience, in the moment.
Listening to Leo the Lionhearted in Media4Innocense’s YouTube recording, it is apparent he does not think or believe he has the attributes or the personality he finds so appealing. In his mind’s eye. He has decided he isn’t at all like the image he has made up in his mind like he was taught, *Note ( taken from his learned ideas and concepts ) of a happy, successful and powerful being.
Have you ever done that? We all have and continue too, a lot.
We can change our minds and relearn ideas that are much more rewarding and loving. We can change life….
Make note of Lion the Lionhearted’s last statement in the mirror.
Think for a moment how a statement practiced and relearned, similar to that could impact your self-image and your life. Try it for a week, several times an hour, in a mirror or your mind’s eye and watch the magic happen.
