Urotsukidōji: Legend of the Overfiend
Legend has it that the human race is not the only dominant civilization living on Earth. Two other races exist in this world: the Makai (a demon race) and the Juujinkai (a half-man, half-beast race). Once every 3,000 years, a supreme being known as the “Choujin” (Overfiend) will emerge and bring balance to all three realms on Earth. In present-day Japan, after 300 years of endless searching, a Jujinkai named Amano Jyaku has discovered the presence of the Choujin inside high school slacker Tatsuo Nagumo. But now, Amanoùalong with his sister Megumi and their sidekick Kurokoùmust protect Nagumo and his new girlfriend Akemi Ito from the Makai, who believe that Nagumo is not the Choujin, but an evil entity bent on destroying all living beings on Earth.

This is a fun flick. I remember it from my late high school years and being fascinated with the spectacle. It's great. But, the edits in this release, while making it more accessible, water it down stripping from it its bold and beautiful obscenity. It's great to have just to have, but I would love for someone to bring back the original release cut. The product itself was packaged and arrived perfectly and quickly. Great seller.

So this is porn.... Just throwing that out there. I didn't realize that when I ordered it, because the description and the cover art led me to believe it was some sort of anime demon monster battle over the earth. So imagine my surprise when I watched it with some friends and realized that not only was this tentacle porn, but it was one of the very first, and essentially started that genre. I'm conflicted because, the animation was pretty good, and the story minus the brutal rape and beastiality was decent, fast paced, and funny in places. But still it contains brutal rape, beastiality and possible incest... Also despite being the shortened more censored version, (all the new DVD versions are.) it's still for the most part explicit, and violent, tentacle/rape porn. If you're into that kind of thing, or curious and desensitized, this movie would be more enjoyable. If not it can be fairly traumatizing. It's a difficult movie to explain, also the main girl everyone tries to get with looks like she's 14...... Just saying.

About 20 years ago a guy at the now closed Pagoda comic shop saw I had a interest in Epic Illustrated, Heavy Metal, and other adult comics and recommended that I take a look at Urotsukidoji: Legend of the Overfiend. I purchased the VHS tape and watched it and was blown away, I had never seen anything like it, definitely not for children. I purchased the DVD for several reasons. The price was good, it's been a few years since I saw the story and was curious if the DVD improved the picture quality. I was not disappointed, the DVD is great and I would reccommend this DVD to anyone who enjoys hard core adult animation.

I'm a big fan of this Hentai/anime in particular, i own the perfect collection on vhs and asked a source if this dvd wasn't censored or cut. I was wrongly informed. This version is the low core, censored R rated version and is edited so it can run like the movie, 3 hours long unlike the ovas that are from 1 hour to two hours long each. Unfortunately the cut scenes make it lame and boring. Part of the greatness of the Overfiend was it's explicit, gory, violent, sex scenes and action, horror sequences, and even the funny sexual parts are cut off (the Magumo bathroom scene in the beginning was cut and lost it's shock and comedy). I was definitely disappointed with this dvd and with Kittie productions, they should of label it Movie Censored cut edition. The image is good quality though, i saw some details that don't appear in vhs quality, but after 20 minutes of the movie you stop caring. I saw the whole thing through cause i'm a sport but it was a real let down. They shouldn't put editions of this kinds of movies like this, it doesn't make sense, is violence, gory, Hentai, you're supposed to be disgusted and shocked. Funny thing is that the trailers are more gory and have more explicit sex scenes than the dvd version. Don't buy it, don't waste your money, i don't recommend this DVD, is nowhere near anything the anime 18 perfect collection on VHS is.

there are many this that everyone could say that's wrong with this, but I'm just going to start with two things. ONE back cover 1989. TWO if anyone knows or remembers in Japan in parts of the 1980's you couldn't publish Anything with sir ton male body parts, to get around this they used tentacles. and yes the gore, violence, and sex scenes are mild/ vanilla by todays standards.

Replaced my vhs of this with the dvd. Groundbreaking anime. The dvd had a small skip while playing that was irritating, but tolerable. My favorite character is Mao O (sic?) the demon of the ocean - but he's no match for the Overfiend. Its also cool that they show Sui Kakuju (sic?) in multiple guises.

To anyone looking to purchase the full uncensored version of this particular work of Anime LOOK AT ANOTHER OPTION! Major portions of the movie are missing entirely and there is heavy cropping and shadowing of scenes to obscure/lessen more graphic scenes in this version of the film. I was disappointed in my purchase.
