Just curious what types of licenses and permissions available out there. When you purchase an iTunes song, you are given a personal use license. Honestly, I think some people are just using copyrighted material for commercial gain. If you want to find music for your video, go to Jamendo. There you will find several licenses that you can use. Some CC licenses are Non-commercial only, so you need to check what they are offering on the creative commons content. Afterall, you purchased the Animoto video with the explicit use of the video for a commercial purpose But you would have to read the fine print in the Animoto license. Switzerfilm Plus 6 years ago. All great questions and responses. We had the same questions for a long time. And then we found Songfreedom. It is the only place we know of to license popular and other cool music for commercial use. We researched this stuff for a long time and you definitely need a separate license for wedding videos, slideshows, and anything of the like. I know they have a legal page on their website that lays it all out. I also recently asked about an expansion of their current library and it sounds like we should hope for quite a bit in the coming months. They are super friendly and answered all my questions. It needs to be licensed. By not licensing the track you run the risk of getting the video pulled and your account banned. You could also get sued. The safe bet would be to use royalty free music, from any number of sites. For Clarification, the 2 contracts necessary to license commercial music are the Synchronization, and Master Use License.
