These stories involve minors sexually and are free to read. I was told by my therapist that she would have to report me if i told her that i read these types of stories. I thought these stories were protected by the first amendment ?

While the stories themselves arenβt illegal, a new interest in them may indicate a progression of sorts into your interest in minors. They are also clearly sexual, and not anything like young adult media. How did your interest in these stories come up?
You may be considered a substantial risk to others due to proximity to minors. If you happen to be a teacher or a daycare worker, or perhaps you have small children, your progression of interest is a warning sign that you may go on to harm a minor. If there is a significant risk of harm to a minor, the therapist is legally required to report you, regardless of the legality of your actions.
They are not considered child pornography under US federal law.
First amendment doesn't mean your therapist isn't required to report. Their license is on the line if you do something and they had any knowledge you may even possibly do it.
I don't think reading stories says i'm going to do the things that are in the stories. Lots of people read about murder, rape etc, that doesn't mean they will be murdering or raping someone.
