Legacy Theatre Program Spring Musical Review

The Legacy High School theatre programme staged its spring musical production of Mamma Mia this weekend to enthusiastic audiences across three performances. The production, the fifth under director Carla Reyes, drew the largest combined attendance of any Legacy theatrical production in recent memory, with the Saturday evening performance playing to a sold-out house of approximately 350 audience members.

The Production

The specific production elements that the audience response identified: the ensemble energy in the Act One finale and the specific comedic timing of the three actors playing the three potential fathers, whose coordination produced the specific comedic dynamic that the script requires but that the rehearsal process must develop. The set design made creative use of the limited wing space of the Legacy auditorium stage. The choreography was ambitious and mostly achieved.

The Program

The Legacy theatre programme has built its reputation through the specific combination of ambition in the production choices and the inclusive casting that has allowed the programme to involve a high proportion of the Legacy student body in each production. The reputation is what brings the audiences. The audiences are what sustain the programme. The Lamppost will cover the programme throughout the year. Go Leopards.
